I could see calling ORDER FROM CHAOS a Black Metal band, but I think of ANGEL CORPSE as Death Metal... Fucking deadly either way.
Anyway, I can only narrow it down to 10...
Cronos

Wagner Antichrist
Big Boss
Magus Wampyr Daolath
Holocausto
Varg Vikernes

haha, dude that's cool, i think angelcorpse are the orginators of black/death. his vocals definately are black metal though.
I've asked this question a few times but have always had little answers, what are some good guttural black metal bands? |

Christraper said: Atilla sounds like popeye |
hahahahhaha HE DOES...i dislike his vox to the upmost |
maniac is the biggest fag to walk this earth. he was only good on deathcrush. attila blows him away. way more unique than that ribbity ribbit faggot maniac. dead was great as well. i will never accpet new gayhem. ever. |
and since other people were naming black guys, doug pinnick from king's x |
clever! go listen to more faggoth black metal. anyone that questions cronos is an obvious fudge packer.
the best black frontman for a metal band was katon from hirax/phantasm. |
yes i am gay cause i dont like a band thats first album was pretty mucha punk album....doesnt get any more faggoth than that, pencil dick...then they started a "revololution" for a persona that they werent even taking serioulsly

"welcome to hell" was the first real extreme metal album. if you can't grasp it's importance, you have no business listening/playing black metal. case closed. leave the hall. |
Cronos was the first black metal vocalist technically if you don't like him you don't like black metal vocals period |
Cronos rules, lyrics are retarded though by todays standards. I wonder if he still gives aerobic lessons. |

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
mercyful fate came out the same time, and kings lyrics were openly satanic...MF is one of my top bands, and if they arent considered BM than i dont think venom would be either, more like hard rock...
anyways this is my opinion and you can have yours....argument over |
Who said MERCYFUL FATE wasn't Black Metal? I wouldn't exactly say they are, but I'd say they have more do with BM then some of what is masquerading under the BM banner today...
Anyway, what it comes down to is that you don't have the balls to appreciate real Black Fucking Metal - go, enjoy some fishnet-shirted, nailpolished, romantic, poetic keyboard garbage, whatever floats your boat... But don't question the ancients!!!
A fist in the face of poser "Black Metal":
Venom came out before Mercyful Fate anyway. Let me repeat myself. LEAVE THE HALL |
Yeah. I think "the Beginning" and "Melissa" are much more extreme due to the fact that Mercyful Fate took the time to actually write music that was more than just fast, messy riffage. Yeah, it's messy, but musically far above venom. Cronos always considered Venom a gimmick band, anyway, and that's him talking. All style, not too much substance. |
There was always a humor element in VENOM yes, but that doesn't mean they took it as a joke. It's vile, blasphemous humor anyway, it only serves to enhance the wretched nature of their black sounds... |
I wish I knew what the hell I was reading, but Cronos all but dismissed Venom as a joke. At least to him. He was well aware of how important people found his music, but found irony in the fact that it was no big thing to him. |
I have no beef with Venom. Actually fairly indifferent. They were never "music-y" enough to me. I like a lot of N.W.O.B.H.M. bands better, though they weren't as over the top, imagery-wise. I recognise their importance, just not directly to me. Without a Venom, there might have been no evil chuck, and that's good enough for me. |

hahahahahahah! you are fucking pathetic |
I love NWOBHM, which I only sort of consider VENOM a part of... But VENOM changed Metal completely... Traditional Heavy Metal had certainly come into its own out of the more rocky 70's Metal by '80-'82, but once VENOM records started to spread, Metal became a more distinct and seperate genre from Hard Rock... The birth of many forms of Extreme Metal... Thrash, Death Metal, Black Metal, Speed Metal...
As for Cronos pointing out the irony, I think that's more the result of typical humble musicianship - Surely when they were recording the demos that would become the Welcome To Hell album, they didn't think ANYONE was going to like it, so I can't blame them for finding humor in the fact that they can play fests to 80,000 people, over a decade past their heyday. I don't think it means he doesn't stand behind the music... |

No, I'm a funny bastard |
Well put, Alex. I think you're right on, actually. I think he recognized, though, that the influentiality (?), far surpassed the actual output of the band. |
