New site? Maybe some day.
my first poll!
since Hekseri are such a major entity
YOU DECIDE!
Which Celtic Frost cover should Hekseri do?
(don't you dare list anything off 'Cold Lake' or even 'Into the Pandemonium', only shit off 'Morbid Tales' OR 'EMPOROR'S RETURN' will qualify as 'Other' . . . I gotta draw the line SOMEWHERE!) |
the whole lotta love of death metal ha |
I just voted Jewel Throne, because it combines thrash and doom |
procreation of the wicked! |
i'd say THE USURPER but High on Fire already covers it |
abhorred said: procreation of the wicked! |
NO!
Sepultura did that, and we all know what that band turned into |
'Dethroned Emporor' is another commonly covered track (I think Vital Remains did it?) |
litacore said: 'Dethroned Emporor' is another commonly covered track (I think Vital Remains did it?) |
did they??....haha...nice...we cover that song |
do babylon fell from into the pandemonium. or inner sanctum. those are classic CF style songs.
uh-oh, Into the Pandemonium, with its house music
ugh, picture if you will, 1986, larissa at age 16, having just gnashed her teeth on 'To Mega Therion' for a year
the first CD she buys is INTO THE PANDEMONIUM. Half the songs are . . . listenable. Then . . . electronic music.
no comparison. I refuse to re-purchase that CD again, out of general principle. |
but then again, Celtic Frost were known as 'avant garde'
I wish they could have experimented with heaviness instead |
I haven't even given a listen to anything besides morbid tales and to mega therion
I guess I should just stay ignorant |
I forgot to burn you their 'early demos' CD. good shit.
Maybe I'm just being over-emotional about 'Pandemonium'. But how else can I convey my disappointment with it as a follow-up to 'To mega"?
case in point: VOIVOD followed 'Killing Technology' up with 'Dimension Hatross'. Beyond that, they screwed the pooch, but everything up to 'Dimension", *sigh* great metal! |
I picked Jewel Throne because i want to cover The Usurper |
Theres enough CF covers for everyone |
cover Endtyme by Cathedral......just bust out the whole album Ha |
Lets do jewel throne
But first, I say lets perfect fuckin don't burn the goddamn witch |
booyah! that works for me!
DBTW is such a sick song--bring the lyrics if ya have 'em! |
I got em all down pretty much I just sometimes get blond and fuck things up a little here, and there
Its different when "singing" along to cronos' distinctive voice and then pulling it off perfectly yourself
That song is one of my favorites= very, very sick |
hahahaha
eye of lizard
wing of bat
testicle of man
tongue of eagle
brain of rat
Jesus Christ's left hand! |
Which hellhammer CDs do you have larissa?
I only have satanic rites |

Whooooooooaaaaaaaaa |
I have Apocalyptic Raids and the double CD of their demos--I think there'd be some overlap with Satanic Rites, but fuckit. I have like 400 blank CDs right now/ |
I almost like hellhammer more than celtic frost
Really? I gotta keep a lookout for those early Sodom demos on CD, 'Sins of Sodom', I'll bet they're sloppy as a soggy burrito |
Ive got celtic frost live bootleg from to mega therion era |
Remember I said "almost", but yeah
I think hellhammer had a very venom-ish sound going
Celtic frost had a sound unlike anything else at all, very innovative
simple guitar playing for the most part, but awesome |
on the back of my CD it says
'Venom are killing music, Hellhammer are killing Venom' |
Christraper said: Ive got celtic frost live bootleg from to mega therion era |
Is it awesome? |
no it sucks wicked bad because celtic frost is gay. of course its awsome its celtic frost live. |
shoot me now
I see a motherfucking LA Guns shirt under that jacket |
noted
wise ass.
raper of christ |
should I read that book 'are you morbid' |
are you morbid is one of the best books ive ever read |
paganmegan said:
you love it

are you morbid will make you hate tom warrior even more. he talks about hellhammer for maybe three pages. it focuses more on making up excuses for cold lake. |
making excuses for flushing awesome metal down the shitter?
I'd want to hear about hellhammer not about the amount of hairspray he used causing him to lose his marbles |
yeah I heard it's verily DRENCHED with cold lake, and bitching about Noise Records |

you'd probably get more info from the liner notes of the Hellhammer demos CD, I'll bring it |
its definitely true about the cold lake and noise records bullshit but its still a good read for all the stories about them on the road |
and it's JEWEL THRONE, by a corpse-painted nose! |
we'll have to get right on that |
DBTW is first though, I gotta get the verse chugging down and make that chorus riff a little less pedantic |
We'll do the gallopy pick attack on the chorus and tighten up the verse
and I need to perfect the solo
Hekseri talks shop for all the world to see!
W00t! |
I NEED A TUBE AMP TUBE AMP TUBE AMP
MARSHALL MARSHALL MARSHALL MARSHALL |
I could also use a noise suppressor that isn't a pain in the proverbial balls |
or the JCM2000 100W DSL if you can't find the other
avoid the JCM2000 100W TSL, I found the controls way too complicated. More bells and whistles means more shit can malfunction. |
paganmegan said: I could also use a noise suppressor that isn't a pain in the proverbial balls |
you might want a rackmounted dBx Noise Gate / Compressor unit instead |
So JCM900 is your top recommendation? |
do the cover that has the drummer........ |
Josh_hates_you said: do the cover that has the drummer........ |
Steven Priestly or Reed St. Mark? |
paganmegan said: So JCM900 is your top recommendation? |
FUCK YEAH |
alright
The crate is gonna get SOLD
let's try switching 'em sometime, see if you like it for real
me, I love the JCM onboard distortion, it is the shizz-NICE! |
I don't mind the crate, it just lacks a certain BALLS that your amp has for sure
I also need a volume pedal to differentiate between solos and rythm, I don't want to drown you out, or not have the leads heard
or
so what do you think, volume pedal or pickup booster or both?
I think the pickup booster would be easier to control |
dunno, I think you should try both out in the store then pick between
I want the Morley, because it has a Minimum Volume setting, no more guesswork for me |
If you want something to boost your solos try the Tube Screamer. It doesnt sound like much on its own but when you turn it on over your regular distortion it boosts it way up and give it a great worm tone for soloing. |
Thanks
I'm compiling a list of "to trys" for my next trip to guitar center |
hurry up and get a drummer so you can do shows ! |
hopefully soon, we are making progress on that front |
incase i didnt say it in the last post, the MP3s sound good, even though i hate Black Metal ! |
Well, we're not exclusively black metal
Thanks, at any rate |
out of curiosity, how many bands have covered circle of tyrants?
opeth
pro-pain
others? |
i'd say the trooper might be a more covered song...
it'd be close |
I haven't yet heard Dokaka do a Celtic Frost cover. We should petition him over in Japan. |
No please, no more dokaka
The dokaka in existence is mind boggling enough |
HELLHAMMER > CELTIC FROST by a few hairs at least.
ITP is a good album though.
I voted "Jewel Throne", cause a bunch of bands have done the other 2. |

the only good jcms: the 800 and 900.
2000s can suck my bum. |
yeah, the 2000s don't compare really
our mission is for a 900 and the destructo-beam |
the destructo-beam can be accomplished with the addition of a bbe sonic maximizer and a hush super c. |

YOU NEED TO COVER VISUAL AGGRESSION
good suggestion. great song. |
Obituary did Circle Of the Tyrants. Poorly I might add. I always liked Eternal Summer, because its got a great "haaaaaaaayyyyy" right near the end.
Larissa, I listened to the mp3s. Completely brutal shit. Im impressed. Is that drum machine on the demo? |

I second the tube screamer. An old bandmate of mine ran the tube screamer with his Marshall JCM 800s (not just for solos....always) and the sound was just incredible. It boosts the natural distortion just enough to give it major meat and overall tone. Try to get one of the classic re-issue ones.
\m/ CHERRY ORCHARDS \m/
Seriously, I went with Jewel Throne. |

i'm going to check out the tube screamer, but I am leaning towards getting an equalizer pedal to turn on just during solos , for cut through, not extra volume or gain. Very soon I am going to purchase some manner of a tube amp because working with a solid state is kind of a handicap, at least for brutal metal

HAILS Randy how are ya bro!
yeah, that's a drum machine. Start calling us Godflesh if we're not careful!
nah, seriously, we're making considerable progress on the drummer front finally. So hopefully we'll be brutalizing by Spring.
YES!!!
My dream of a Hekseri/Hexeri/Abhorred tour is finally attainable! |
No, hexerei are gonna be too busy playing with jaded and lacuna coil at locobazooka and maybe even trauma concept and wretched asylum
we'll never be lucky enough to be graced by their nu metal presence
i suppose you're right
i'll just have to settle for my cardboard cut out of their singer, and pretend he signed my grundle |
I had a five-way with all the members of Jaded...
.....not really. |
