youth liberation front: I haven't seen these guys since the bsi show in nashua a few years ago.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 4:19pm
wow, maybe I should finish the review before hitting send.
they were a lot tighter and the songs were better. I heard that they had a CD out soon. I also think that they were well received. there were a bunch of s.e. hardcore kids jumping around, but the music was a lot more interesting.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 6:28pm
grim aria: they were really good. the bassplayer was a photographer and talked to me about cameras before the show. their set was sort of like a cursed/bsi/premonitions of war sound. it was really good. I want to get the CD to see what they really sound like.

wasteland: sounded similar to grim aria, but had a punk/hardcore/dropdead sound to them too. the singer explained the meaning behind most of the songs too. he was a photographer as well.

raising kubrick: people actually danced around for them pretty hard. while they were playing, kris kept smashing his bass against the wall, showering me and a few others with concrete. eventually, his bass snapped in half.

heuristic, the: I didn't know they reordered their set, ever. it sounded really good. I think josh is completely part of the band and is actually spazzing out more than the rest of the band. people seemed scared that they was a guitar flying around.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 6:32pm
nip is down stairs recording the show. he's got a computer that he's recording it with. it's also online. but is he fighting the comies?
no, he's posting on messageboards.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 7:04pm
animosity: they just completely ruled down stairs. I guess their CD came out a few days ago. I've had it for a while. it's so good and live they are wicked awesome. anyone that is "coming later" and missed them is a fuck stick. I was upstairs when they were starting up. you know the sign of a quality band when you can hear that they are awesome and you are upstairs at the library, being able to hear EVERYTHING.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 7:04pm
there are tons of people skating outside. I got some shots of that for later... check out the randomshots.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 8:00pm
hound, the: they might change their name to SARS ZONE! I had heard that the singer was sick and might not show up or if she did, not sing. thankfully she did, but when I came down stairs, the singer and the drummer had face masks on. their set was rocking other than that. though the masks only stayed on for a few songs. the crowd was pretty roudy while they played. I was surprised and kept seeing peope being knocked to the ground and then rolling around and jumping back up.

motorhead is being played it is awesome.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 8:46pm
aganihm: they played their reunion. it started off a little laid back and totally broke into chaos. I'm not sure how they played for so long... I thought their songs were much shorter. it went from hot and sweaty to disgusting real fast. they got tackled a bunch. the end of their set was all the guys from aganihm up in the air on everyone's sholders or layng across a bunch of people.

toggletoggle post by todayistheday at Aug 27,2005 10:16pm
hmmm i might go on sunday...no clue where this place is though

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 10:51pm
infantile prostitute: this was kyle and rev. grundarr's band. short grind songs. I can't believe that kyle was able to play after that last set.

Reverend Grundarr and the Unholy Trinity: crazy set. all songs about drugs and stuff. they didn't have the costumes, but they played great. it shows that they've been working hard with alex in the band now. it seemed like everyone was "bros" with alex. the crowd got much much much more violent, but they were all patting alex on the back the whole time.

backstabbers inc: there was always an air of forbodding evil that has always floated over a bsi. it's a tension that always make me thing that there is something that is just going to snap... at any moment. I often thought it was ryan and his repressed rage. but seeing them with the new bass and new drummer there was the same feeling. the two brothers on vocals works out so well. matt and brian were just too good together. the beginning was a littler weird. jonah's drumming definitly stuck out. sounding a lot like alawalwad. slowly it seemed like there equipment was on melt down. brian's guitar crapped out and he just took the mic and sang, diving into the crowd. matt's guitar drop to the ground at one point. the music stopped and some one said "they can do it" which basically sums up my feelings. I thought that they were over when ryan took off, but no, they are still awesome.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 27,2005 11:10pm
bread and roses: they actually played outside in the driveway. everyone seemed to know all their songs. oh, I went to highschool with the drummer, dan.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2005 12:28am
ed gein: no one probably noticed, but as ed gein's set started, a blood red cresant moon slowly crept over the city skyline, hanging as a batman symbol for ed gein. They clicked on a sample and *bam* took off. their set was fairly sort, but the sound was awesome. plus it was so hot down there. At one point during their set, the cops showed up and jonah ran out to deal with it. But I guess they just drove on by cause the show continued a minute later. with three members all singing, it ads so much variety. its actually a mystery to me how long it took before people start moving around. outside, they were selling a lot of 12" even though they have a new 84 coming out Nov 1st (which I'm actually listening to on the drive home). They finished up their set quickly and neatly, ending day one of literacy fest.
ps: jonah, I left my nalgene there, wide mouth with an RTTP sticker by the washer/dryer.

a lot of bands mushed together, but i'll review the ones i remember.

raising kubrick: first off, i heard that Moe was leaving? It's cool he's still drumming. But anyway, I enjoyed their set tonight. They had a certian energy today that the past couple of times they definitely didn't have.

the:heuristic: I thought this band was going to be way more tech. Either way they have some nasty parts and I enjoyed them. Memorable moment was the guitarist that's not George flying out into the crowd and spazzing and everyone having a look of fear in their faces.

animosity: they were the only band to use triggers. and it made them sound nastier in the basement. either way they tore it up! they were just insane. I didn't want to let them know their set was almost done.

aganihm: I heard this wasn't actually aganihm. I was kind of confused. Either way they had a couple parts that reminded me of old Carcass.

backstabbers inc: i've seen these guys 5 times. yes, not that much. but 2 of the 5 times i liked them. i saw them way back in the day with Quinn drumming for them which was awesome. and then at a metalfest, which wasn't impressive. then the last time I saw them was in this same basement. It was supposed to be one of their last shows. Either way, they did nothing for me at that show. I was actually quite bored and pretty much didn't bother with them. I wanted to see them again with the new line up. I was fucking impressed. They got so much better than last time I saw them. Jonah's drumming was impressive. He definitely fits the band well. The dual assault of vocals worked very well. And some guitar parts even reminded me of Neurosis a few times. Great band. Everyone check them out with the new line up. I want to record them... *hint hint wink wink*

Ed Gein: amazing... amazing... wow.

haha, no shit huh. the dude that produced this rules (Chris Owens of the "you're an asshole if you haven't heard or don't like them band of right now" called LORDS). goddamn the bass sound on this new CD is perfect...overall this record makes most bands trying to sound crazy n' angry yet intelligent, perplexing and unpredictable sound absolutely like total ass.

LORDS and ED GEIN are probably gonna tour the Northeast together in November...rumor has it anyway, don't know if that's booked/confirmed.

I'm going to actually write a review of it. it's awesome.

my favorite image from tonight:

haven't heard the premonitions of war yet...the split with benumb (minus the first song) turned me off so i'm skeptical. it was ed gein and rust in peace on the way home.

toggletoggle post by attendmyrequiem at Aug 28,2005 2:26am
the premonitions of war part of that benumb split SUCKS

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2005 2:33am
the POW is from the same session as that benumbed tracks thing...
but the master is suppose to be better.
I would have listened on the way home... but I had to listen to the ed gein again.

i hope so...my feeling of the split is like, i don't know, to me being on a split with a veteran group of awesome dudes like Benumb should be taken seriously and it just seemed like they were goofing off, especially the mississippi queen cover. the artwork ruled, too. it should've been a killer split.

bout to go to sleep and heartburn decides to kick in?...

lords are crazy drugged out super fucking loud rock n roll. really off kilter and crazy. pretty rad.

regahdless, this is easily the most insane thing I've ever tried to pull off. my head is in such a daze from trying to keep all my shit together yesterday and today is going to be so much crazier.

anyway, yesterday was fucking AWESOME and went pretty much without a snag. Show was over by about 11:30 and included at least $150 worth of food, 13 bands, 2 microphones, 1 launch ramp, 3 grills, and 0 broken ceiling tiles! Also, EVERY band fucking destroyed my face.

toggletoggle post by wade at Aug 28,2005 11:38am
extra extra special thanks to jonah for allowing me to shoot promos in his front yard...was more of a pain and production than i expected (as was the whole of yesterday and pretty much this weekend...) so it kept me from seeing a ton of bands. glad i got to see BSI, Bread and Roses and Ed Gein...for like 10 minutes this morning, it was looking like i was going to be able to make it back this afternoon but no go as of right now. i owe you J, if you ever need promos or anything else, let me know.

Yea, you're mistaken. I'm not goin anywhere. I've been in NJ all summer cuz thats where I work and was born and raised. But, this is the last Summer i'm doing that. I gotta finish my last year of school and settle somewhere in MA. I'm not goin anywhere, dont you worry your pretty little head.

BTW, this was probably one of the sweetest fests i've ever been to. I think this might be the first fest i've ever played. Great way to start. Ed Gein and Animosity were definitly my favorite parts of the day. As well as the sweet food. Thanks J to-the- ONAH

new POW... listened to it twice.
BMA still hasn't put out a bad release. this is better that the split and that kaloow CD.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2005 2:04pm
let me rephrase, this makes the split sound even worse.

toggletoggle post by wade at Aug 28,2005 3:22pm
good. i had high hope still & that's why i have yet to listen to it. i lose interest too easy...i liked left in kowloon. it's not perfect & i know i'm in the minority on digging that album.

here's why:

"After a series of delays, Premonitions of War have finished recording their long awaited disc for BMA. Entitled "Glorified Dirt + True Face" includes re-recorded versions of their debut album (Glorified Dirt, originally self-released in 2000) as well as material from the "True Face of Panic" CD (originally released by Goodfellow Records)."

this is what we got last night. i looked at the song titles and was like, "ohhh.." I'm still psyched though 'cause I've been searching for their first one. And The True Face of Panic is awesome.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2005 7:49pm
I forget what the one before kowloon was, but until I find it again, the new on and that one are tied in my mind

toggletoggle post by wade at Aug 28,2005 9:26pm
the true face of panic was before left in kowloon.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 28,2005 10:12pm
