The best part about Sputnik's is the really bizarre Russian/Soviet paraphernalia in the basement. Like creepy idealized photos of the Russian countryside and really old portraits of hilariously fruity Russian military leaders.

Ahh, Sputnik's....

ok.. no one is talking about how this show was.
I will talk about what I saw.

If was fucking hot in there. the windows are barred up and you need to have the doors closed or the neighbors will bitch it up. I'm pretty sure it was about 1 million degrees in there. I was covered in sweat after 10 seconds.

shroud of bereavement: I showed up during their song. It was good though the PA was feeding back constantly or it was off. Dan's (vocalist dan) voice was lost for most of the set. At the end, they got their act together and it sounded a lot better. It was fucking loud as hell in there. Anyhow, SoB played without their opera-style female singer. Granted, I knew the track so I could place her parts in.

A Cold Reality: Immediately, they sounded so much different from the last time I saw them. They had a new singer. I guess he's ex-red shift horizon (which I saw last year). In the end, their last singer stepped up and sang for the last song. Their last song is the one that sounded a lot like shadows fall.

Noose Bomb: I was only there for one song. They sounded great for that one track and rocked it even though it was basically just me, one of their gf's and some other guy. Sucks that there weren't more people there, but they played like pros anyhow.

then I sucked dick and when to the worcester palladium

Okay here goes, and I'm implementing a horribly cheesy new rating system...

The following bands played in the following order in a room of roughly 100 degrees in temperature. nature.

Nidas the Buzz: (Stage one) I heard this was their first show. Didn't seem it at all. They played really well and I thought they kicked ass. Only suggestion: there were some rather long passages that just grooved out on riffs where it really felt like it could use some more vocals on top, though they might've just skipped a lot of vocals because of the really quiet PA that was there for the first 1.5 bands.
/10. (This is my lame as hell rating system)

Shroud of Bereavement: (Stage two) I like these guys but I ended up spending most of the set outside trying to help out with the PA situation. Eventually a PA showed up halfway through their set, which seemed to just be one long song long, but once it got hooked up and the vocals were audible it sounded a lot better from outside. I will catch a normal set from SoB some day soon.

A Cold Reality: (Stage one) New singer. Good good. He cupped the mic way too much though and made a lot of unpleasant feedback. He sounded good though, and he'll sound better if he learns to not cup the mic (us sound guys are anal about this especially since no one takes it/us seriously). The room didn't have the greatest acoustics and the guitar's high end got a bit lost and muddled in the room, but everything else sounded good. There were two stages in different directions and this one didn't seem to fit the room as well as the other. Longer cables = more movement. Hitting head on the mic. Broken bass string (the only important one). Still a good set.

Noosebomb: (Stage two) I couldn't tell you why but no one stayed inside for these guys, which was shitty, cause they were good heavy groovey metal. They played a good solid set and, like every other band there, will probably be more enjoyable in a room with only a two-digit temperature.

Bane of Existence: (Stage two) Oddly enough, their drummer looked, played, talked and smelled a lot like Noosebomb's drummer. Plus it seems they're both made of stone that's made of mud. BoE kicked ass and thankfully people actually came inside to see them. They sounded really tight and Doug has the best wardrobe ever. Mike can tell you what we came up with for minor improvements though (speedo and a bullet belt for example). Nasty set.
(+1 for Mike playing back to back sets in that forsaken sauna they call Sputnick's)

Ascendancy: (Stage one) Yeah, I'm going to sit here and review my own band, right. But I did play in the bathroom and Terence played from across the street. And someone actually headbanged besides us. Which owned. But no bass. Which was shitty. I'd like to hear what others thought of our set because I'm still not going to say "we were awesome" or "we sucked nut." But I think we had the most energetic set of the night, which we're happy with.
because I'm biased.

Adolf Satan: (Stage two) I was absolutely exhausted and spent this set outside as well. From what I could hear from out there it sounded insanely loud with gurgly goofey vocals. No real opinion until I see them under normal conditions.
because I have no right to give anything less but didn't get enough to give anything more. Great name though.

One Way Down: (Stage one) Yeah so these guys were the locals to be the big draw. Didn't catch anything inside again, too busy worrying over a dead/kidnapped/raped friend. Sounded alright from outside, but it seemed like a bunch of the people who were there to see them, and had been there probably all day, had no interest in checking out any of the other bands, and that really fucking sucked.
for the band, I heard they're good people and again would like to catch them under tolerable conditions,
for that part of the crowd.

Sputnick's:
, wtf was that place...

here is my run down:
Nidas The Buzz - this was their first show ever. You couldn't tell though, they played awesome. Unfortunately our PA situation was not the best for them, and the vocals were a little low.
They told me they sucked, and if thats true I definately want to see them when they are good!! They stuck around the whole show.

Shroud of Bereavement- this was the first time I saw these guys live. Unfortunately the PA kept feeding back, I think it was because they had everything else turned up too loud. Luckily someone brought in another PA and we got the vocal problems fixed so that atleast people got to hear them the right way for one song. These guys stuck around for most of the show.

A Cold Reality- one of 2 bands that has played the More Force Fest every year. Their new singer is good, he moved around some, which i know must have been tough inside that furnace. I missed part of their set when I went to get some beverages for Phil and myself. I have always been a fan of these guys and it was great to see them again! They also stuck around the whole show, I definately respect when bands do that.

Noosebomb- Unfortunately the townies decided to wait outside during Noosebomb and the 2 previous bands had to cool off, so Noosebomb didn't play too a great many people. That was wicked stupid because they were fucking awesome. All you pussies should come see them on Tuesday at the Middle East upstairs. They also stayed the whole show.

Bane of Existence- The only other band to play every year of the More Force Fest. As always, Bane of Existence was awesome. They busted out some new songs and some older ones that they rarely play anymore.
Some old whore and her 3 love children came to see BOE in particular. I tried to get her number, but to no avail. Most of BOE stuck around the whole show. See them at Bills bar Monday.

Ascendancy- In my opinion they played the best set of the night. Somehow they were very energetic in this place, which was easily over 100 degrees. Terrance decided to go to the witch musuem and play over there, while Mike was peeing while playing, and he didn't spill even a drop. They stayed the whole show also, and if you missed these guys lately, dont be a fag- go to bills bar on monday.

Adolf Satan- Larry Lifeless is mad. Their drummer puked behind the stage. Take that sputniks! These guys are playing with Kalibas a week from today at the Chopping Block. Noosebomb is also playing that.
I hope to see you all there!

One Way Down- the local thrash boys. The townies decided to finally all come in for these guys, who played for a long time. I like this band so it was ok. Im not sure when they are playing again, but find out and go!

John (the new singer) is still in the process of writing lyrics for the newer material. I promise, it will be a lot better than most of the stuff we played that night. S.O.B., Bane of Existence, and Ascendancy fuckin owned. Can't wait to play some more shows with those guys.
