well.. here's the issue.
so I have 2 tables that the discussion board is using.
one for the subject and stats.
the other for the messagebody, time, and who posted it.

when you search, you need to search through the messagebody, but it's got to merge the subject table (one entry for each thread) with the messagebody table (one entry for each post).

this locks both tables while it's merging them and then returning the result.

now, what I have to do is create a cached table (about 100MB) that is merged and then rebuild it every 15 minutes or 20 posts or something. I just need to figure out how to do this in SQL cache space.
OR
remove table locking. MySQL is suppose to only do row locking so this is really annoying.

the band's page was doing the same exact thing, but I build my own caching schema that won't work for the discussion board... I'm going to go ask for some professional direction on this one. I want to do it like phpBB does it.
