the black dahlia murder: with the recent hardships in the bdm line up (bass player and singer), it was amazing to see the turn around time for them to be back on tour. I was confused at first about the bass player, but then I realized that he was in Set Ablaze (who I saw with bdm). With only a week and a half to teach the new guys, they played basically the new cd, 7 tracks. The new bass player fit in to the sound, but the singer... he was a good fill for the tour, but he didn't have the range/stage-pressence Trevor did. I believe he's just a fill in for the tour. The bass player, on the other hand, will mostlikely be permanent. It's great to see these guys doing so well and having such good successes so quickly. Can't wait to see them come around again... maybe around halloween

evergrey: it took me 1/2 the concert to convince myself that the singer wasn't from sentenced. They played pretty good but it's not really music I'm into so I don't know. Power Metal usually doesn't do much for me. There were a lot of synth that sounded straight out of the 80's. They have a new CD out, Recreation Day which i listened to when I got home. It sounded a lot better than they did live, but I guess that is to be expected.

hate eternal: they started off with the thunderous "king of all kings", but after a song or two the guitarist's, Erik Rutan, tubes sort of went so you couldn't heard anything he was doing. He kept having to go behind the infamous Hate Eternal banners to work some magic on them. After that technical difficulty, I guess the sound board guy was live mixing the vocals. He must have been looking in the other direction cause the vocals weren't there are few times. With the Departure of bass player jared anderson, they got a new guy, Randy Piro, who fits into the band well and has learned all the songs.

arch enemy: from the dramatically rushing out on stage to giving horns and walking out, AE didn't really let up. This show was suppose to be upstairs, where they have headlined before, but they put it down stairs and the pull was enough to make the room look pretty full. It's great that they came so far as to play for that many people. As always it's awesome to see them and to hear some of the new tracks (from Anthems Of Rebellion) live for the first time. I'm not a fan of the vocal compression and vibrato on the new CD, but live, that isn't present, leaving them nice and raw. The best new track they played was "Dead eyes see no future". The nile-esque intermission of the song is great.

They also mixed in the best of the old tracks with Angela rocking out, playing with the microphone stand as if it were a guitar, leaving the boys in the band to run around the stage and rial up the crowd. They are coming back in Oct 18th supporting Slayer. there will definitly be pictures up after that.

It was my first time seeing Arch Enemy..and WOW...they blew me away! Awesome, awesome show (and pics of course!) Actually writing my own review and will post my pics too.

As for the "quikie"... what the Rev meant to say is that it was their latest dish!

I don't think goremeister was referring to the technical problems that Hate Eternal had-I think he is refering to the complete and utter embarassing lack of talent they displayed. On a bill with two extremely talened band (Arch Enemy/Evergrey) and one very talented band(BDM) Hate Eternal appeared very simplistic and-technical problems or not- those solos were painful to listen to. But in Hate Eternal's support-apparently there are plenty of people who don't care about talent or creativity as Hate Eternal seemed to have plenty of fans there.

hate eternal has no talent??? thats a new one. Im not a big fan of the band but the guitar work and drum work are equally insane. Every band has off nights. Try to go on tour playing shows every day and try not to fuck up. Tom I wouldnt worry about what these kids say, if any of them played an instrument they would know that hate eternal is far out of their leauge .

i dont usually like to be an emotional message board bandito, but hate eternal, in my opinion, has one of the coolest sounds of any death metal ( as does morbid angel), as far as song writing ability, erik rutan owns most of the posers out there, he writes the most evil riffs, the drummer is nasty as hell, and the vocals follow suit. You wont find many people that agree with you here goremiester, or burgermiester, or burgermister miesterburger, or hamburgler, whatever your gay name is. HATE ETERNAL rips your head off and shits down your neck, you can have arch enemy

Its incredibly unfair to say that Hate Eternal is talentless. I do not like them, I think theyre boring, however, Roddy is a fucking amazing drummer. Anyone that says he is talentless is fucking retarded.

One more thing: Just because a band has clean vocals doesnt make them power metal. Evergrey is NOT in any way a power metal band. There are no guitar gallops, there are no glass shattering high pitches in the vocals, and they do not write songs about dragons and kings. If your going to call them anything, I guess they could be considered prog metal...either way they were the best band there.

evergrey has some kick ass songwriting skills. his vocals get to me sometimes (i even like dream theater)... though live, they were kind of boring to me even though I knew all the songs.

after the show, the singer/guitarist walked by me handing out stickers and fliers and I tried to hook him up with a free sticker, and he didn't even look at me which I guess would have been fine, but he patted me on the shoulder a few times as he was going by. so basically fuck evergrey now. fuckin rod stewart bryan adams dress wearing bonehard.

id have to say even though im a bigger fan of Hate Eternal, arch enemy put on the best sounding/performance show that night.

the bass player? he's the one with the dress. Ive never talked to him. I partied with Tom (singer) and Henrik (guitar/vocals) in Ohio and theyre like the sweetest guys I've ever met. I'd think its probably just because Im a girl but who knows. Henrik remembered me from Ohio, and Tom stopped for pictures and stuff. I dunno. I love Evergrey.

like most bands have backup amps... this wasn't an ac/dc concert that your probably use too. breaking a string = expected, blowing an amp = unexpected (unless your rich).

lol i think its funny

this was an awesome show. I liked Hate Eternal and Evergrey alot but as awesome as it was to see them together, I still thought it was still pretty fucked up that they were on the same tour.
