TERRIBLE name for a fest

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Feb 9,2006 12:54pm
sounds like a metalcore buttfest

toggletoggle post by Arthur_ATD   at Feb 9,2006 12:58pm
dosen't matter what the name is, everyone who is interested in any of those bands should come out and enjoy the show. or if you genuinly hate every band there, then stay at home, and sit on your computer and bitch about it. either way, have fun.

toggletoggle post by TheWrldCanWait   at Feb 9,2006 7:46pm
I doubt any more bands should be added. No offense, but I think there's plenty...personally I think that when you set up a show you shouldn't included EVERYONE...but that's just me. Regardless of how many bands are on the bill, it should be a pretty sweet show...

acually HBBSI is far from a horrible band, i cant comment on dreaded silence cause ive never gone outta my way to hear them. but i can say whole heartedly that HBBSI is anything but horrible.

maybe they hit a lil too close to home with saying you're all a bunch a metalcore fags that might as well have been paper dropped outta a photocopier.

damn i got some breakdown in my grind.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Feb 10,2006 3:01am edited Feb 10,2006 3:01am
yeah...I was just gonna say...if you know anything about grind and call hbbsi horrible, you are probably not listening right. but then again....it's possible for people to not know anything about grind.

don't compare BASB with HBBSI. it's two differnet types of music entirely.

toggletoggle post by McMahon  at Feb 10,2006 1:53pm
I think it will be a good show if fans stick around for other bands, though it usually doesn't work like that with big shows.

That was a great band. Annihilation Absolute!

toggletoggle post by TheWrldCanWait   at Feb 10,2006 10:11pm
Hey, the Cities that's playing this show is pretty fricking sweet. They were all like 12 years old when I saw them, but they kicked major ass...

now, the person putting on this event.. they've put on shows before? they know that they are going to have to be dicks to get people on and off the stage quickly, right?

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Mar 3,2006 1:52pm
the seekonk legion fest was a perfect example of promoters not doing this right.

toggletoggle post by mcmahon  at Mar 3,2006 2:09pm
oh, shit, didnt know there was a change.

I'm helpin BASB with setting up and breaking down. I dont really want to be 'the dick' to keep things moving, but will be if it starts to get out of hand. BASB/ATD/Black Onyx/Below the Rise/BWBB/Acariya/NSN have all had shows together.
If the bands come prepared, I think things will go smoothly. I know ATD is using our guitar amps/cabs, so there is some time to be gained them. Anyone that practices/plays out enough should know about what levels each amp should be at to get a decent mix and speed up the setup/breakdown. I would be suprised if cabs will be mic'd, though i'm not quite sure of the PA setup. I know I will be anal about keeping guitars equal since we do a lot of back and forth shit.

Maybe i'll be the dick that says, "yo, fucknut, your amp is too loud, overpowering the mix, and ruining the show. Turn it down."

ok, the last time I was at this vfw was over 5 years ago. I think the red chord played, a pre-eyes.like.autumn band, blood has been shed, halo suffocation machine (pre-porphyria/since the flood), creation is cruxifition, and a ton of others. it was a time before the world outside of tom clance didn't care about muslims trained by the CIA to fly gas fill planes into our ntional capitalism.. Er.. Patriotism. its awesome that there is still an interest in this music and at noon omn a saturday, there can be 50 kids standing in a vfw listen to hardcore music.

something is up with the PA system so it smells like burning rubber when the bands play.. ew...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 1:35pm

bare these arms: so now I know how my parents must have felt when they saw 14 year olds playin hendrix. for you kids reading this, Hendrix was this dude who used to shread the feedback hardcore. He's very old school. I'd see 14 yos effortlessly playing that and people my parents age would have their minds blow. When I'm like "he's just playing guitar." I only saw their last song, but these kids made all that melodic guitar stuff seem effortless. Black dahlia murder influence hardcore with some melodic parts.

love to hate: damn, that singer uses his voice like guy did in TRC before he blew out his throat after recording the first CD. If they do a bunch of show or record a CD, that guys going to hate himself. They were pretty heavey. They reminded me of neversaynever how the sort of sound like they'd go well with lamb of god.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 1:50pm
beyond nothing: moshy zao/as I lay dying stuff. some ofguitar work that unearth uses to bridge parts. the stuff towards the end was moshly moshcore. Think seed without adem sandler on the mic. People in the crowd didn't seem to really care about them though a couple people did in fact mosh for them

black_onyx: or whatever they will become. feed back city through the pa in the beginning. I think that they fixed that quickly. though at the end of the set, bbsb were scrambling around to fix something. The bassist was missing I guess. I remembered liking the guitar work. Its really good. They play riffs similar to old iron maiden stuff, but with sweeps in the middle of it (i think BTBAM does this too). Two guitarists that could do harmonizing here would rule or actually maybe even a keybooard player just for those parts (or just on the recordings). they are one of the few bands that could use 3 guitarists and a bassplayer in certain parts. Though they could probably do what beyond the embrace does and have the lead guy use 2 cabs with a harmonizer padel ($90). People moved up closer for these guys.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 3:01pm

only blood will tell: they reminded me of attwn mixed with the risk taken. moshy hardcore with the drummer singing. This was the first band that knew what's up and played on the floor. mostly filling up that huge space. I don't remeber ever being here and the show stayed on the stage.

At this point only one band on the schedule didn't play so they are ahead by 5 minutes less than a full band.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 3:38pm
when_legends_die: they were the first band that jumped around. Compares to the band that played thusfar, they were a lot tighter and the sound quality of their set was a step above. I think they've just recently recorded something so that's probably got something to do with it. granted most people on this board would hate them and probably passed this thread over long ago to post things about marks show place. They had a lot more people moving around this should be a foreshadow of what is to come. The last song they did had a bunch of people from spill kit and others up on vocals helping them along.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 4:23pm
Spill Kit: wow, they are so much more over the top than they were before. They had lights that they could step on to turn them on. Slowly, these dudes are becoming the chariot. At one point, the bass broke and it got thrown. I would be afraid myself of breaking it. Basses are expensive, now? Aaron (vocals) told a store about building a massive fort in the when legends die house. I won't believe it until I see pictures. he then licked a girl in the crowd's face which is doubley gross cause he's got a big-old muslim beard. they had a large number of people dancing during the end of their set.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 4:56pm
burdens will be broken: fun fact: they are almost exclusively power by moxie™ they were a mix of bury you dead and dwd. None of the nu-metal stuff from green st. During their last song, they and the audience were yelling "you fucked everything up." I was standing by the chord that had just about everything on the stage plugged into it. I felt the urge to un plug it and when people notice say "sorry, looks like I fucked everything up."

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 4,2006 6:19pm
acariya: they had so much equipment on that stage there. Wood's drum set basically takes up the stage so they pulled it forward and everyone was on the ground but him. all that tastey equipment really filled up that room nicely. Musically, they remind me a lot of all that remains. Including a lot of the vocals.

ya we get that a lot, its cool what ever,we play metal to have fun and play shows and meet cool people, NO ONE these days is original, unless you make up your own key, your own scales, your own instruments, and your own clothes from scratch, and ya so what if we listen to AILD? heh i listen to fucking blue oyster cult, boston, and dragonforce mostly

toggletoggle post by thewrldcanwait   at Mar 5,2006 4:03pm
Yeah, i don't think it matters too much if ATTWN sounds alot like a certain National act, cuz they totally tear the place up and they put on an excellent show. You missed a few good sets Rev. ATTWN kicked ass, NSN was pretty good (Thier bassist fell over and almost killed the singer, it was sweet), and BASB did a cover of Unite by Throwdown. My band didn't have a great night, but in a more positive note my other guitarist puked on stage and broke his top string, all in our first song! A pretty fun night if I do say so myself...

toggletoggle post by mcmahon  at Mar 5,2006 4:59pm
saturday was fun. Lots of bands and a shitload of fans. I think there were around 160 people there total (according to the count board out front). BASB did a great job of organizing the show. Bow to None cancelled and Ismada/Timeless didn't show. Don't know what happened to them. Only downfall was our guitarist backed our van into a guardrail. Last weekend he got it stuck on the railroad tracks.

Gilbo, Stevus keeps trying to levitate during our set. He has yet to defy gravity, but I am certain one day he will. I see you sliding around out there in the pit:

i can't understand for the life of me all of the negativity. i don't keep up with many of the posts, but from what i've read, it seems like some people are more concerned about ripping on local bands they don't know or like than supporting the ones they do.

if you don't like something (band names, music, performances), give an honest and intelligent opinion and suggest some things that you think a band could work on in order to improve, don't start a childish flame war online. we in NeverSayNever are friends with a lot of local bands and we, just like all of the bands we know, work hard to do something positive with music. ripping on bands just tears the scene apart. remember, music is art.

the reverend, what are you talking about people in the crowd didnt seem to care about Beyond Nothing? No one cared about shit, it was 12 in the morning, Id say they cared seeings how they got the first pot (as small as it was) And Ryan from ATTWN is right, if your a band with guitars and a screamer, your automaticlly not origanal. And im noticing that a lot of the bands you refered other bands too sounding like, the only part that sounds a like is the vocals, why dont you learn something about the music. ATTWN doesnt sound like AILD, and they dont look like them either, only the singer does. And none of there shit sounds like them either, I'd say they sound more like It Dies Today. Listen to My Promise from It Dies Today, and then Frozen Planes of Hate, the beginings sound almost identicall.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Mar 8,2006 6:32pm
pit** not pot

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 8,2006 6:41pm
I don't need to know anything about music. I play CDs.

I think that ATTWN sounds nothing like IDT since ATTWN sound like they like girls. which the newer IDT doesn't. they do in fact sound like AILD.

when Beyond Nothing played, the crowd for whatever reason was really far away from the stage.

I hope that answers all your questions.

ATTWN are some of the coolest band members I've actually met especially Matt. We've played a bunch of shows with them and they don't let their popularity go to their head. Even if they do sound like AILD who cares because the majority of bands these days all take something from each other and try to call it their own. It's not called influences for nothing.

Buried And Still Breathing Presents:
In Association With NHBooking...
The First Annual ScreamFest 2006

Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and our friends at our little event last Saturday. We had a hell of a time. Thanks reverend for showing up and taking pictures for as long as you could, I know the bands appreciate having professional pictures to put up on all the MySpaces... Thank you to all the bands that showed up and played, especially to the bands that stuck around all day, it was great to see some commitment to the idea behind the whole event.

Bare These Arms, Love To Hate, Beyond Nothing, Black Onyx, Burdens Will Be Broken, Acariya, ONLYBloodWILLTell, When Legends Die, Spill Kit, And Then There Were None... A Timely Demise, NeverSayNever, and Below The Rise.

I think all the bands played somewhere between good and phenomenal... Thank you all for giving the fans a hell of a show.

To the closest of friends who headlined the event with us, to our street team, to my family and friends, and to the rest of my band... Thank you so much for all of your hard work before, during, and following the show. I truly appreciate all the help.

All in all, one hell of a day, and we will keep doing these D.I.Y. shows as often as we can, Thanks again, and see you all again next year.
