...playing extreme metal?

i mean i stil love the stuff, but playing it isnt bringing much exitement anymore.

Just wondering if anyone else is feeling the same.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at May 15,2006 8:27pm
yeah, everyone just stands there and watches. It needs a new edge

its not boring me at all. I get more psyched about extreme metal as I go along, there are so many musicians out there that motivate me to get better. On top of which this year has been full of incredible releases and we're only halfway through.

toggletoggle post by tsectpathogen at May 15,2006 8:41pm
going to the shows just isnt that much fun anymore

hell even playing them doesnt seem to really do it for me

toggletoggle post by Anthony nli at May 15,2006 8:45pm
the shows still seem awesome to me. Neuraxis have one of the most intense frontmen in extreme metal and they've been around twice recently.

Are you thinking of switching genres or just giving up on all of them?

So take a break and play something else for awhile. I always handle this by running multiple projects at once, some of which aren't really metal.

toggletoggle post by KeithMutiny  at May 15,2006 9:17pm
i have to take a shit.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at May 15,2006 9:19pm
maybe it's just some extreme metal you are tired above (maybe the stuff right in front of your face?)

toggletoggle post by Aegathis  at May 15,2006 9:40pm
give the kid a break, i start feelin that way everynow and then, its probably just cause we are both named anthony and both play in the same band.I dont eat my own shit though

toggletoggle post by Dissector   at May 15,2006 10:43pm
I'm not sick of it at all. The only thing I wish I could chagne would be to play some shows with some nice old school moshing, circle pits, stage diving, shit like that. That's all I really want.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at May 15,2006 11:07pm
Music is fucking boring.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at May 15,2006 11:13pm

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at May 16,2006 9:47am

That's part of the reason I left BoE. I just couldn't get into metal in general anymore for a while. My tastes were changing and it really didn't do anything for me. I still loves me some death/grind and shit but I have no real desire to make music that sounds almost identical to what else is being done. Plus, I sucked at vocals.

i think the key is to always play and listen to music besides metal...even if metal is your major influence. if all you do is listen to, play, and go to shows for metal bands, of course your gonna burn it out. but if you mix it up a little it wont be as bad

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 16,2006 12:36pm
cav is exactly right.

i listen to all kinds of music. a couple years ago, i was getting tired of metal in general, so i listened to alot of my non-metal cds- jeff buckley, black heart procession, various prog and class ic rock albums. every once in a while, i like to get a break from metal.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at May 16,2006 3:13pm

just the extreme metal doesnt seem to have much emotion or feeling to it anymore, just trying to top the next band in "br00tality"

I want to be able to play stuff that has power and emotion to it, dynamics, changes in feeling. Maybe a little like Opeth/Classical/Symphony X/(newer) Amorphis/ (newer) Morgion. Who the hell knows?

just getting boring, nothing new is really being brought to the table

still like the bands but getting less desire to play it or be really active in the scene (like there was a huge one to be involved with in the first place)

toggletoggle post by davefromthegrave  at May 16,2006 10:28pm
music sucks

toggletoggle post by SACAPAPADOO   at May 16,2006 10:33pm
its hard to get into somthing that lost its originality.. i jam out in a drum and bass band, a folk band, and a grind band. its just a pain in the ass nowadays because everyones trying to hard at being the most brutal band or the fastest or "differant." figures though now that extreme music is finally getting big people are getting tired of it.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at May 17,2006 12:58am
i say metal til death...but i often find myself listening to CCR(most classic rock, actually), Deftones, ambient weirdness, some classical, and all sorts of randomness

toggletoggle post by Y_Ddraig_Goch  at May 17,2006 2:49am
"Metal is forever", to quote primal fear.

You gotta have a balance, I listen to all genres of metal minus the shitty ones, I listen to ethnic, european folk, humppa, classical, baraoque, romantic era music, video game music, queen, ravi shankar, blue oyster cult....the list goes on and on

I could never see myself growing tired of metal, although now that you say it I notice I shift back and forth from the heavier and more brutal of metal bands to the more melodic of metal bands.

some weeks I'll listen to gamma ray, sonata arctica, lumsk, helloween, blind guardian, and then other weeks it will be demonoid, amon amarth, Kalmah, Emperor and such.
