well yesterday i started hearing a grinding noise coming from my brakes. i took it a Monro muffler/brake place and they just called and told me that my rear calipers were seized up along with being completely worn down, as were my rear pads. They also said that they would have to replace some seals and linings and other stuff and adjust something because the calipers werent releasing properly. Then he told me that my parking brake was also seized and worn down and would have to be replaced. I told him to fuck the parking brake because it's an automatic. He said "well it shouldn't have even passed inspection the way it is." He gave me a quote at $734 something but then said, i'll give you a deal at an even 700...hah, some deal i'm getting.

So am I totally being fucked here? I know brakes are important and everything so i told him to just do it. But does 700 seem reasonable for replacing my calipers and pads and doing all that other piddly shit?

You have been bent over but you are not taking it like a man!

oh he also said that my headlight fluid was low, sounded pretty important. i told him to check the flux capcitor while he had it up on the lift.

no way, thats a deal, trust me.

for all that, its normally over a grand

i was joking

...i just checked some parts sites and calipers for my car run about 130 a peice. so im thinking that 2 calipers, 4 pads, hoses and seals plus labor could easily go over a grand. so i guess i feel a little better

$700 and you got anal? deal.

toggletoggle post by mOe  at Oct 30,2006 7:58pm
yea, but the dude probably went out of his way to find shit to fix...which is why i go to one mechanic and one mechanic only...its like an hour drive but i dont care, they've always been good to me
i stay REALLY far away from chains like monro, too

do it yourself.

toggletoggle post by Dertoxia   at Oct 30,2006 10:45pm
i dont know shit about cars and would never trust myself not to fuck up my brakes. i called some places and the lowest quote i could get was around 570. but who knows if once they saw the car that they wouldnt find a bunch of shit and then jack the price too. im just gonna bite the bullet and fork out the dough. whatever.

toggletoggle post by davefromthegrave  at Oct 30,2006 10:48pm
this is why you need to learn how to fix your own car. Brakes are easy as hell to replace. it takes an hour.

toggletoggle post by davefromthegrave  at Oct 30,2006 10:49pm
also you can buy all the tools you need to replace them, and the parts, for less than what a shop would charge you.

toggletoggle post by Dertoxia   at Oct 30,2006 10:51pm
i realize that but if i did them myself then i would have no one to blame when they completely fail and i go flying off a cliff thelma & louise style.

I did brakes all around on my monte carlo pads + discs for around 200.

Instead of paying the shop's $75 an hour labor fee find a mechanic and have him do your brakes on the side for a 30 rack and a couple bucks. Way cheaper.

the fuckers replaced both rear rotors and didn't even tell me. i just had the front ones done like 2 months ago but the rears ones should have been fine, the fronts wear a lot faster. fuck Monro....don't ever go there.

Since we are getting into colder weather, make sure they change out the summer air to winter air in your tires.

red vs blue love... sweet!

some of the newer ford have levels on the headlights, so make sure they aim straight, i have convinced many of people thats where the headlight fluid goes.

or the best is telling people that the brake fluid resivor (sp?) is the washer fluid.... on a street bike.
