Shitty store, shitty computers. Yay!

toggletoggle post by xmikex at May 25,2007 8:43am
I'm surprised Dells aren't manufactured by Walmart workers on their coffee breaks. Terrible.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at May 25,2007 10:23am
Dells are outright horrible computers.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at May 25,2007 10:25am
Why does everybody think Dell's are shitty? They're built pretty solid.

It's weird how in the computer world if somebody fucks up their computer with spyware or just doesn't know how to use it right they immediately blame the manufacturer or the OS maker even though they have nothing to do with their problem directly. It'd be like if I was alergic to peanut butter and I started going around saying that the people at the Jiff company were a bunch of rotten cocksuckers.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at May 25,2007 10:53am
I just think Dell's are pieces of shit.

Nothing to do with viruses or spyware.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at May 25,2007 11:02am edited May 25,2007 11:03am
What makes them shitty? I'm just curious. I deal with all sorts of computers as well as build my own and I've never had much of a problem with Dell. Just wondering what other peoples' gripes are with them.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 25,2007 11:27am
dell's rule! their lappies are now excellent and with coupons the prices can't be beat. they also can come with ubuntu, quad cores and 2x quads. plus their pizzabox servers are the cheapest around. we have pizza box dells from the 90's still running builds.

Dells are fine if you get some extra memory, they usualy come with 256meg, thats just not enough I tell people to get 512 at a minimum. So many people call me and are like "my dell is slow, wine wine wine" and of course they have like 25 things on the startup menu! Ugh! anyway with a little extra memory they work just fine

toggletoggle post by sacreligion at May 25,2007 11:44am
i was really hoping you meant "del's lemonade"

toggletoggle post by sacreligion at May 25,2007 11:45am
also, mi madre has had a dell for about 4 years now and the thing still runs beautifully

I have had my Dell for about 5 years. Still works. Had to replace the HD once, but other than that...it's actually been great.

Just never call their customer service. Ever.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at May 25,2007 12:39pm
Their 1U servers are all coming with 2.5" SAS drives now. It was weird seeing 2.5" hard drives in servers. Now the 3.5's look big and old to me.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at May 25,2007 12:53pm
they have 2.5" 7200rpm sata I drives now. no sata II that I can see availible yet.

I come across problems with Dells a lot at my work. Most laptops, when you connect them to LCD projectors will either sync up with the LCD, or will allow you to sync it up very easily. Some laptops won't sync at all, and will just send a garbled signal to the LCD, or nothing at all. I have to go into the windows settings and extend the desktop to the 2nd monitor and more or less trick it into sending a signal to the LCD. It's not a mirror image though, and it's really only good if you know how to run Powerpoint in preseter mode. I have found that this happens 100% exclusively on Dell laptops because of their poor graphics cards (or something).

I agree with you though on people being boneheads about their computers. Apple probably gets a ton of business from disenchanted PC users who ruined their PCs by taking awful care of them, and bogging them down with Spyware and viruses, and then thinking it was the PC's fault.

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at May 25,2007 1:52pm
What kind of Dell laptops were they? We used to hook a lot of sony viaos' up to projectors and they were a pain. The Dell's handled it better. I've also found Dell Inspiron's (designed mostly for home use) to be pieces of shit and Latitudes (business) to be a lot more stable.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at May 25,2007 2:01pm
That's really weird because

1. We use these brand new Inspirons on our presentation carts (laptop & DLP projector) and they work beautifully. Of course, they are brand new practically, and we ordered them specifically with this purpose in mind.
2. I have had so many problems with latitudes. I don't know if everyone is just buying the lower end models, or what, but those are usually the ones we have problems with.
3. I've never, ever had a single problem getting a Viao sync to an LCD. In fact, aside from once or twice I don't think I've ever had to touch a single button.

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at May 25,2007 3:17pm
I have a Dell Inspiron laptop and haven't had any problems so I don't think Dells are crappy.

toggletoggle post by pam   at May 25,2007 3:19pm
I have an Inspiron, too.

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at May 25,2007 3:27pm
We were made for each other, Pam.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at May 25,2007 3:42pm
I also use a Dell desktop for my primary PC at work. I don't know what its problem is, or if somebody ruined this thing with spyware before I got to it, but it pretty much epitomizes everything that I hate about PCs. At least once a day I'll come back to my desk, try to open my email or do something incredibly simple and it will freeze up.

There's no sense in sending an error report, because when it gives you a link to find out what's wrong with it, that freezes too.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at May 25,2007 3:44pm
oh yeah, well you can get fucked at walmart.

what do you think about that?

toggletoggle post by Dwellingsickness at May 25,2007 4:24pm
all I can think about now is those stupid dell commercials.......

"Dude, you're getting a dell" . I wanted to shoot that kid everytime the commercial came on.

toggletoggle post by metal_church101  at May 25,2007 4:42pm
The reason why Dell went away from those commercials, is because that kid got busted for possession of weed in real life. Dell didn't want anything to do with him commercial wise after that.

toggletoggle post by Dwellingsickness at May 25,2007 4:49pm
yea I know.
