I quit a job about a month ago and I had roughly 50 vacation hours left. I thought I read somewhere that upon termination, they have to give you these hours [by law]. Did I just misread something or is the company run by a bunch of douchebags?

I would've taken a week off then put in my 2 weeks notice.

depends where on the books it is. I have 3 different types of vacation at my work.
pto (which they give you when you leave), floating holidays (which you lose), and tob (time off bank which you lose).

I'm not sure if it's law or not, but I had the same thing happen & I told my dickhead boss to pay me for my vacation time - which he did without question.
I'm pretty sure when you quit or are fired from your job they must pay for all hours worked & remaining vacation time at the time of termination.

Did they refuse to give you back your stapler?

There is a law concerning this, I looked it up and have it printed out somewhere when I was pissed because I had about 140 sick hours saved up and they just erased them. It seems that if it is "sick" time, you have no claim, but if it's "vacation" time, they do indeed owe you for the hours since it's considered part of your salary. You can find it through a google search.

I don't know if your vacation hours are listed on your pay stub, but if they are, you should save the most recent one just in case they try to be schisse-ty.

Yea, I've still got it luckily. I'll give it a few more weeks, but if I don't see anything I'll probably do something about it.
