OLP Bass Guitar - (MusicMan Stingray5 clone) w/Active Electronics
is this a decent bass, i know you got one or one similar, guy is selling it for 200 figured id ask.
word life dawg |
i will speak for dood. it's a nice bass, sounds good. |
but do you have his dreamy eyes and long flowing hair |
we talking 'bout the same dood? |
but it's a clone...not a musicman...I don't trust it |
I've played Blue's OLP a few times. For its price it is definitely worth it. |
ok cool, im just wondering if its worth it to buy the clone like brian said...that was my main concern.
that and his dreamy eyes |
I mean, it all depends on your budget. I think anyone would rather own a real Musicman vs. an OLP but MMs are expensive. If you're just looking for a good sounding, cool looking 5 string at a really cheap price the OLP Stingray is not a bad choice at all. |
Just make sure you play the exact bass you're buying first because quality control is not terribly consistent. |
do what he says...play firsttttt |
yeah naw, see thats what i wasnt sure about if blue was rockin the real deal or a clone.
my budget is fine, im actually trying to get this but i figured this as a back up wouldnt hurt
I have seen Blue running through a field with flowers in his locks running in slow motion. True story. |
-flips hair in the wind-
yeah, i rock the olp mm3 5string stingray ripoff. the one your asking about is the same thing only with active electronics.
amazing basses for the money. just be very weary that the quality control is total shit like anfernee said. out of the 3 i tried, only one was worth a damn. the other two looked and were put together like shit.
for a solid month i was trying to decide between the olp and a real used stingray 5. i played them back and forth a shitload. the olp sounded 90% of what the MM sounded, i really couldn't justify the 500 extra for the real thing though. sounded just as good.
i have beaten the shit out of mine consistently for a year and a half now, sounds and works just as well as the first day i owned it.
the olps can easily stack up to basses in the up to 500 range. 200 for that one is a solid deal. |
see this is why i waited and the hair flip PRICELESS
hmm maybe i gotta get my mesa 400 and sansamp pedal first anyways |
dude, screw the mesa head. just get a power amp and run the sansamp as the preamp. |

no way mesa 400 for only 500 bucks and it only needs tubes replaced.
shit is coming with me |
hey blue...tell craig to do this power amp sansamp thing. He needs more guidance. |
yeah, ive given him a bit. i think im going to sell him my 2x12 bass cab once i get my vader. |
nice...yeah. Bear in mind that when he jams with us he has to compete with 4 4x12s and 2 2x12s.
Just in case that means anything |
noooooooo he needs an 8x10
full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack, full stack full stack full stack full stack full stack full stack full stack full stack 8X10
lol @ 4x10s |
we have abandoned subtlety outright |

ooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh didnt know about that. youd still be surprised how well it holds up against nicks vader full stack. that and id be giving it to him dirt cheap. |
well, as long as he knows that he'll never be good enough for us. |
yeah, cav has been going side by side full stack too. Our trailer weeps. |
just you brian. just you.
personally, id just shove avatar down his throat if i were you. |
8x10 cabs sound good, sometimes amazing.. but
a) Fuck carrying around a fridge. I value my back and would like to be walking upright by the time I hit 40.
b) If you really want the ill-nasty bass tone, get a bi-ampable head and stack a 4x10 or 2x10 over a 1x15. That's tone baby.
/gear snobbery |
a dude in a band we played a shit ton of shows with used avatar bass cabs...I dunno, I always felt like they lacked the solid construction to really project. Kinda like my avatar 4x12...the sound quality is 9/10, we used it to record all guitars on our album...but when I put the Orange next to it it's like it isn't even there anymore. |
no.
mesa 400 w/ sansamp pedal
ampeg 8x10
score, goal, win, game over. |
plus we still have Joe's 6x10, since he hasn't picked anything up. We could run that over on the opposite side for the sake of maximum output. |
I def. appreciate your keep-it-simple-stupid attitude towards bass gear Sean, but there are a lot of amazing ways out create a powerful, versatile bass rig. I would own like 4 rigs if I could, each serving a different set of purposes and geared towards different styles.
Bass is the best instrument ever. It is soooo versatile. |

FUCK. Hartke HA7000. 350 watts a side. kill someone. |

lets not do this discussion. |
if blue can't do artificial harmonics on it, it's not real |
i can do them on bass, they just sound like shit. |

It's not a discussion baby, it's a fact. Bass is EVERYWHERE. It is ubiquitous, and you can do so much as a bass player to accentuate whatever part of the music you want to, if you know what you're doing. Rhythmically, harmonically, melodically...you have the power. People don't understand, but the bass player is the most powerful person in the band. |
well till i get my feet wet with the band im playing with then ill know what i can and cant, but right its just straight forward grind so im just buying what i know i need right now to make their music work.
and pretty much the same gear ive already owned as a bass player. |
i gotta say though, if you can get a mesa 400 for that cheap i say go for it damn. |
all you gotta do is look shits out there, the ampeg cab is only 500 as well and sansamp 140.
i mean im not buying all this brand new, im hardly loaded.
ive just used the mesa/ampeg combo before and had no problem with the sound.
as far as the 8x10 being too heavy, seriously lift a weight or two guys its not that bad. |
yeah i see ampeg fridges on craigslist once in a while for 500.
i pretty much dont ever buy new. i prefer my equipment with mojo. that and shits just too damn expensive. |
