I have a go-ahead to book a show there in the next 6 months or so and talked to the owner about it being an actual metal "metal show." I would be in charge of the door cover, sound guy(the new guy they have knows his shit and would love to do a legit metal show), band payment, etc. etc.

Has everyone already sworn this place off enough that they wouldn't want to play a show there? I haven't booked anything concrete as of yet as I'd like to see what bands will be touring around March/April, but would like to know what bands would be interested in a show there and if anyone has any input as to how this could be a bad idea. I feel like if I got the right national and had the right local bands play that it could be an awesome show that may change people's minds about that club.

Just throwin that out there.

I'm 100% serial.

Sac,

Here's how I see it and trust me when I say, I definitely give you props for trying to do this.

The Negatives - trying to book a national is tough in and of itself, most of the time they have a guarantee, which means you need to have bank in case people don't come to the show. The lucky dog, for me anyway, has never been "metal" friendly. It's sounds like your trying to change that which is killer, but before I would try and book a national, try and get things going with some quality locals first. The other neg's - everything else everyone says about Worcester on a daily basis.

The Positive - If it goes well, then we (metal) have another place to play in what seems to be a drying well. We have lost so many places to play around here just in the last 5 years it would be great to add too instead of subtract from. Ultimately for me, this out-ways any negs of playing there.

What To Do - this is only my opinion. Make sure you make the bands happy, (I.E. you don't wanna end up with a contract on your head) just be fair, honest and up front with the bands before hand. Mix it up a little, like like don't have 5 slam bands, or have 5 thrash bands, etc.. Make it so that the whole night has something different to offer. I am sure there is more but I will leave the rest up to board to say. Oh and PROMOTE IT LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER.

I give you nothing but respect for this bro, good luck, and in all seriousness if I can help in anyway let me know.

this is my biggest problem with the Dog. it's a very pretentious place, i've always had the vibe that you're frowned upon unless you're juggling the balls of every person that works there, and every regular that goes there. i have never cared for that place, but like you said it would be nice to see a change as it would only benefit a choking scene.

Kudos to you, good sir. Ipsissimus had a good time when we played there a year or so ago with Summoning Hate and the Accursed. We'd definitely be up for a return trip.

also we are gonna be booking for Benders soon

I totally agree Rob. The only reason why I was thinking nationals is because they have a pretty good sound system in there and can hold a good 250 or so people, but then again there's the problem ofmaking sure people come out and I realize that a lot of people don't like coming to Worcester. I appreciate your input, and hopefully I can talk to some good local bands that can at least guarantee some heads in the door(a lot of bands don't seem to do that anymore, especially when it's 21+ outside of Boston aside from Metal Thursdays). This idea is definitely still in the womb.

I have to get back to bugging a friend of mine who told me Tammany Hall is trying to do a monthly or bi monthly thing of booking metal shows.

i heard its something like $700.00 for 3 hours.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Nov 3,2008 5:17pm
so they charge $700 for you to bring in people who buy drinks at the bar? the dog is asking for a couple hundred out of the door to pay the sound guy and security. what the fuck does tammany need $700 for?

toggletoggle post by goatcatalyst   at Nov 3,2008 5:23pm
I like the Cherry St business model: I pay nothing, keep all the door money (pay soundguy and bands - the bar doesn't take a cut is what I mean), and get 40+ drink tokens to disperse as I see fit.

Thorough win.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Nov 3,2008 5:31pm
that's fairly standard aside from the 40+ drink tokens. free beer makes any situation a thorough win.
