How can politics, society, and the world at large get better? There is an excessive amount of pessimism on this board and it is one of the reasons I don't hang around very much anymore. I've read many posts after the election that refer to how Obama sucks and the world will always be shit, blah blah blah. Conversely, I'm also going to note that this is not a universal observation, just what is more prevalent.

So my question is: if everything right now is shit, how can it be better? Do you really want it to be better or just to cry about shitty thing?

I think what obama needs to do is turn the millions of young people he energized into people that will do community service. It sucks that those people will be back to fucking random frat dudes, ebaying for things for their prius, and sucking cock by the time obama is in power.

One of the most uplifting things that Obama brought to the table was his call for the youth of America to participate in national service. However it is going to take A LOT of work to make sure that this has follow-through. Its unlikely to happen, but if anyone can energize our apathetic generation into helping their country work through its current strife, its Obama. I fear you may be right in your assessment Rev, but I hope you're not.

all the BS on this board has been tossed back and forth for hundreds of years. i'm not sure why i feed into it, lately i've just been using it to argue about politics to make myself feel better.

i think we're doing pretty fucking ok. i'm able to live my life the way i'd like, hold a job that doesn't make me feel like a waste of space, try not to consume much, and satisfy my few needs because i've earned them. what more could i ask for. the election gives some people optimism for the near future and i guess that's all one needs, as far as in the long-term, well, humanity will run it's course the way it always has. it's easy to let yourself be disgusted by it. personally, i'm more interested in playing drums tonight than anything else.

i do have hope, i don't fully back Obama just yet, but to me, just him being elected is a good sign. it shows that we are advancing, and won't endure another 4 fucking years of a stifling old fart in office. no, he is not perfect, but he potentially offers a younger, more down to Earth approach to things. all the "nigger in office" shit is obnoxious, i think its exactly what we need. a fresh view and approach to ideals that still have crank-start engines. we have no idea what to expect, but i feel much more optimistic now that McCain/Cuntwhore aren't going to be in office. no, the democratic party is not perfect, but to just assume its going to be terrible seems so pointless and exhausting.

I think giving youth help to pay for college in exchange for community service is an incredibly awesome idea. Of all he proposed, I am rooting for him on that the most. It would be nice to know my kids have another option for college available since I'll probably still be paying for my education when Zoe is out of high school. Probably Aiden too. ugh.
