Jewski put some lossless shit on SMN. Get over there and steal it.

I'm fucking retarded

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at Apr 5,2009 1:17am
Good stuff.

toggletoggle post by DrewBlood   at Apr 5,2009 10:39am
this sounds like fucking mush. black metal guitar tone, in-audible bass, and fruity loops drums. did these guys forget how to write slams? no groove at all and no memorable riffs. these songs are disappointing as hell.

with dying fetus, cannibal corpse, and deeds of flesh all putting out exciting new material, this is not a good time to be underwhelming in death metal. especially for a veteran band like devourment.

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Apr 5,2009 2:04pm
Theres a total MTD style slam in fed to pigs. i wigger'd

toggletoggle post by corpus_colostomy at Apr 5,2009 2:41pm
i always thought it woulda been cool to make dysentery logo shirts that said 'fuck devourment' on the back; although it looks like the ironic effect of that design is slightly diminished in lieu of these horrible new tunes.

ps: sweet cover design. never seen anything like that before.

I don't get the hate. It may be because they're actually straying away from slam a bit but I like this better.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Apr 5,2009 3:57pm
i think its pretty good actually...

im not sure they are actually "straying" away from slam but whatever gets ya stoked.

Not a fan. Where are the guitars in the mix?

Not having any balls. Thats where.

vocal patterns are boring.

I would have dug it a few years back, but like Drew said, the bar has been raised and they don't seem to be reaching it with this release.

toggletoggle post by rotivore at Apr 5,2009 4:34pm
I dont like majewskys vocals.......they sound a more midranged gutteral than low gutteral and all the vocals blend into and sound like one long run-on word......what that word is?? you tell me

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Apr 5,2009 5:10pm
has the guitar ever been in devourment mixes?

toggletoggle post by ernie at Apr 6,2009 1:59am
whats with the puppy thing

toggletoggle post by ernie at Apr 6,2009 2:01am
i dont think this is that bad, you guys all just love to hate. it sounds alot like sexcrement to me

meh, it'll probably grow on me

toggletoggle post by menstrual_sweatpants_disco   at Apr 6,2009 8:10pm
I thought this band used to have slams. :(

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 8:34pm
Now they just have unislam.

toggletoggle post by moenli at Apr 6,2009 8:40pm
this didnt turn me off altogether...the production is bad but this IS Devourment. They dont have them Ken Susi/Adam D dollars. This is heavy enough to get a passing grade to me.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Apr 6,2009 8:50pm
I don't hear that much of a difference between the 2 new songs and Butcher The Weak, so it didn't turn me off either. I don't expect a band like Devourment to do anything differently; and if anyone expects them to put out anything on par with the early material, they're only setting themselves up to not like the new stuff. To each his own I suppose.

toggletoggle post by spaldino at Apr 6,2009 9:09pm
honestly... if they had better guitar tone, this would be way heavier. and a NON DISTORTED BASS. that shit kills is. its just static to the mix... get a clean bass signal, cut the highs, raise the mid and top the lows and that would add more to the heaviness. the guitars need to be cleaner. you cant hear shit. Ruben should ask the dude from Malignancy about proper tone in a 1 guitar brutal death metal band.

malignancy has been a huge letdown to me. their records sound amazing, but live...they are crap! ronnie knows nothing about tone...spider II with volume at 3?? last album was disingenuous poops. to much disparity between live stuff and cd shtuff.

and btw intrauterine > everything else.

toggletoggle post by fishcakes at Apr 7,2009 12:53am
I'm digging it...

Devourment (post MTD) and their legion of clones = Into The Oven

NO MOSH NO CORE NO TRENDS NO FUN

toggletoggle post by The_Rooster  at Apr 7,2009 10:32am
I like the sound of it. It's sludgy shit, so it needs to sound sludgy. If I want to hear perfect production with tons of clarity, I'll listen to Job For a Cowboy, or some other record that Andy Sneap mixed.

The production gets the point across. It's violent and dark sounding.

Music is pretty goddamn heavy too. I like it so far.

When's the last time Dying Fetus put out anything worth listening too?

I gave up when I heard "Stop at Nothing".

You're joking right. Seriously?

I'll preface this by saying that I fucking HATE Line 6 amps, when they're in the wrong hands (most people), but Ron's guitar sound is easily some of the heaviest shit I've ever heard. They do not suck live, in any regard.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Apr 7,2009 10:38am
if you disliked Stop at Nothing then don't bother with War of Attrition. it is much better, but nothing to write home about.

toggletoggle post by MikeOvDecrepitvde at Apr 7,2009 10:40am
Prying Anus should have stopped writing music after Killing on Adrenaline.

Destroy the Opposition, while not nearly as much of a masterpiece, is still a great album.

Nick has only seen malig like twice in the last year, spalding and ryan are on the ball by saying that ronnie's sound (did) rule. It turned to crap when he didn't want to lug his giant rack around anymore.

And cross species is actually the best malignancy cd.

war of attrition is a considerable step up from stop at nothing. Worth a listen if you ask me.

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Apr 7,2009 2:25pm edited Apr 7,2009 2:26pm
Am I the only one who thinks they suck? Usually the music saves the vocals but with them the music sucks too.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Apr 7,2009 2:27pm
groovy

Devourment has always been pretty mediocre, and this is par for the course

Call me when a band that actually has a shred of originality releases something

LOL at Line 6 for anything other than a preproduction tool. The tube amp that Line 6 did with Bogner would be my ideal preproduction tool and just an all around "fun" head, but it still doesn't hold up to so many other heads and it's not worth the money. As for the new Devourment... I've never liked Devourment, and funny enough, this is the first time i've enjoyed listening to them. Also, for what it is, I kinda dig the production. Nothing stellar in the world of audio production, but for this band, based off of what I've heard, it sounds good.

Is it a requirement for every metal band to have a 'landscape' illustration on the cover or are there only 2 artists of the same style to choose from?

I also LOVE how everyone has become total tone snobs as if they have 'teh most ultimate tone of all!'

I can't speak for anyone else but I know I have the best tone eva' 2 ME

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Apr 7,2009 7:28pm
haha, of course! I use to have teh best tone eva too until everyone else got the same amp as me

toggletoggle post by metalguy at Apr 8,2009 12:12am
I like the new stuff... It seems like they are going for overall brutality and not just slam riffs.
I never thought it really mattered what a band does in the present as long as they did cool shit in the past. There are some exceptions to that. (Metallica)

For instance Dying Fetus could possibly release 12 more shitty albums, but they still have a solid 3 cd's to tour on and help promote there new stuff.

Malignancy rules! I agree the new material they have done isn't the best. I was a big fan of Cross Species and Motivated by Hunger.

toggletoggle post by fishcakes at Apr 8,2009 2:36am
aside from ron's amp not being loud enough...Malignancy is amazing live!

it's not really a matter of "hate." it's matter of voicing your own opinion on various "metal musings" which, is ultimately what this board is about if i am not mistaken.

what would be really truly gay is if everyone had the same opinion as you jimmy. that would be worthy of a "fuck that."

i happen to agree with drewblood: it seems like at the moment some bands are really raising their game (emphasis on 'some'), and the differentiation between those bands efforts and the 'NEW' devourment stuff seems strong, and not in a good way.
im not gonna comment on devourment's tone because:
1.) it's myspace
2.) it's devourment and
3.) because when ruben borrowed fish's ampeg solid state at PAL he looked like a space ship had landed.

toggletoggle post by fishcakes at Apr 8,2009 7:05pm

Ampeg for the solid state win

true that

More brutal slammin' from Devourment. I like the production, much cleaner and it definitely loses that Sludgey low end shaking the whole room kind of thing they need. I love the first slow part in Fed to the Pigs. Cool maggot thing too. I Approve!

they were heavy as all outsides with that Ampeg amp...after a while i was just standing there smiling/laughing cuz i didnt know what else to do
