I'm trying to torrent something for the first time in a loooong time. I'm afraid that I will get sued or something.

bottom line - yes.

check the comments when you download the torrent to see if they're legit.

i've been doing it since torrents first took off years ago. i got a letter from charter once that said "we know you're downloading this xbox game, stop it" which is meaningless unless they get subpoenaed by the fbi or some such agency and ask specifically for what i've been known to download. then you can use the ol' open wireless network defense or something.

when I used to do it, I would make utorrent not share.
Someone using my open wireless network used to download a lot of TV shows.

I also need to find my demonoid account.

I have this NAS
http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=108
and they just put out their v3 with a download station.
you can upload torrents or paste links and it will download things for you

look at the video here:

you don't even know.
right now it's running with these drives
Drive 1 WDC WD15EADS-00H7B0 05.0 1397.26 GB
Drive 2 Seagate ST31500341AS CC1H 1397.26 GB
Drive 3 Seagate ST31500341AS CC1H 1397.26 GB
Drive 4 Seagate ST31500341AS CC1H 1397.26 GB
Drive 5 WDC WD20EADS-00R6B0 01.0 1863.02 GB
Drive 6 WDC WD20EADS-00R6B0 01.0 1863.02 GD

RAIDed like this:
Single Disk: Drive 4 EXT4
Mirroring Disk Volume: Drive 5 6 EXT3
RAID 5 Disk Volume: Drive 1 2 3 EXT3

ugh.. I just realized that drive 5/6 are EXT3. arg...
I need to move more things from 1/2/3 to 5/6 cause 2/3/4 are seagate 1.5TB and they fail too easy. I'm going to take out #4 and probably #3 and connect the externally/off line with another 1.5TB I have and do monthly backups.

holy ungodly uploads... it was doing some huge number that I don't understand how it could be doing... All my web/mail traffic died. I had to slow uploaded.

thats always been my biggest problem with torrents is it will max out your upstream bandwidth which kills web browsing.

I guess it depends on how many torrents you have going on but even on the lowest of cable speeds this shouldn't happen. If you're only torrenting like 5 files and this happens I recommend using utorrent and configuring it correctly.

http://www.utorrent.com

http://www.johntp.com/2006/04/19/how-to-in...crease-download-speeds-of-utorrent/

You all should be using utorrent anyways because of its UPnP encryption for traffic.

Final piece of advice is to avoid public torrent sites and always chose torrents that have a good seed to leech ratio.

OR

Buy a rapidshare preium account or mega upload account and go to http://warez-bb.org and direct download everything to your heart's content.

yeah i use utorrent now and cap the upload. I used to use Azureus which was crap.

I use a Mac.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 11,2009 11:55pm
Lol, I use Transmission for Mac and it works fine. I don't seed but I leach like a motherfucker. I have a friend that got an account at What.cd and it's easily the best music torrent site ever. Think of something you've never been able to find before. What.cd will have it in 3 or 4 different qualities with 192kbps Mp3s being the lowest quality they allow.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 11,2009 11:56pm
I stopped using utorrent when it was proven they were sending packets back to the mother ship. and you could be DOWNLOADING 0 things and have your UPLOAD maxing out.
and if you can't upload, you can't download.
it was just one of the torrents was sucking 99KBps-200KBps... at least that's what it said. IDK how that is possible when the max I've been able to upload before is 66KBps.

Too bad you'll be banned within 2 days from what if all you do is leech. I know first hand how crazy private sites are with ratios. Luckily I'm still in with waffles.fm, PassthePopcorn and torrentleech.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jul 12,2009 12:12am
I'm not on What. My friend is. I know all about ratios. Either way, What gives you like two weeks or 5 gigs before your ratio matters.

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Jul 12,2009 12:40am
damn what.cd has pussied out. when that site first launched your ratio mattered 24/7 from the moment your account was activated.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 12,2009 6:14pm
hm... I put my upload to 20KB and download to unlimited.
now all my torrents aren't seeding... I would say I got banned for having a bad ratio, but idk. during the same period, I had the download station HD fill up and it jumped to another RAID which has nothing on it so I'm not sure.
Plus, one of my torrents isn't demonoid.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 12,2009 7:06pm
great.. it was the hd issue. I did something and they all reset back to 0. arg! so they are all starting again now and I have all these orphan'd files around.

I need to get my house of cards in order.

Then you'll go to jail and get to explain multiculturalism and tolerance of violent homosexuality.

I think it's probably OK

force a recheck of the files

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 12,2009 9:46pm
