i hate breakdowns and i wish people wouldnt judge bands on breakdowns. if they didnt... all this gay hardcore shit wouldnt even be popular... and Unearth wouldnt have breakdowns and they would be a fucking amazing band because they wouldnt put random and useless/tasteless breakdowns in their sons just so people would like them more. gay gay gay.

WHOAAAA.
Lets not get butt hurt just cuz you like guitar solo's instead of breakdowns. and as for unearth, man i wish they would have stayed metal and not added breakdowns, cuz then there wouldnt be kids with long hair, chain wallets, and dying fetus t-shirts at hardcore shows!
SO IF YOU DONT LIKE HARDCORE AND YOU DONT APPRECIATE BREAKDOWNS DONT ASWER THE POST. (god metal kids are dumb!)

i dont like solos that much either. im not a metal kid, i hate metal kids. i like metal and i like music that is good and that takes a pretty decent amount of talent to play. open chug chug chug crap doesnt take anything to play nor does it take anything to write. besides every hardcore band sounds like the next one and they all share the same breakdowns. hardcore bands that i enjoy = Blood has Been Shed... well... just BHBS... but they have talent, originality, and good crushing grooves. i listen to Devourment and the likes and i play/played in bands that have slams and grooves that absolutely annihilate hardcore in terms of breakdown heaviness. i can enjoy breakdowns when they are done RIGHT. the state of extreme music these days is a terrible and saddening sight. all these bands are coming along and are getting popular because they all sound exactly the same (bury your dead emulators). get some talent and quit hangin off of the same 3 bands' nutsacks and maybe people might start making new bands that dont sound exactly like eachother so you can... ya know... have some sort of variety! imagine that!

i love how hardcore kids cry about breaking chains and stereotypes, but say all metal is long-haired dorks who like bands who write about nothing but zombies and dragons.

face it, hardcore's dead
face it, metal has heavier breakdowns
face it, metal needs talent
face it, no one likes your scarf

I haven't had long hair since 1993, and I'm death/grind metal. Most be a Boston thing. Here when we played shows we always had mixed bands playing together, like us were the death metal band and we'd have a grindcore band play and have a couple of hardcore bands play as well. Do you guys all play together or do you keep it segregated? I am just curious.

When I first started NotCommon it seemed that the hardcore and metal scenes were intertwined, but that was definately holding metal back because some hardcore kids are wicked gay and like to ruin it for everyone else.

Now, in Boston, hardcore is all but dead. Bill's Bar was practically their last venue and they won't do hardcore anymore. The Middle East doesn't do hardcore and I talked to the Chopping Block and they know whats going on and they most likely won't have hardcore. Even All Asia Cafe, which is run by the most open minded people, won't do hardcore. I think I had alot to do with splitting metal from hardcore in Boston, as far scenes go. Militant anti-hardcore attitudes have been the best thing for metal in this area (as well as punk).

im willing to bet bills will be back soon enough. and hardcore isn't confined solely to bills or to boston.

hardcore didn't hold metal back, metal held itself back. There has always been only a handfull of kids outside the whole palladium scene that have really put an effort into getting shows together (Joe, Terrence, Richards etc) and often times metal kids reward the hard work of other metal kids by being gay and lazy and not showing up for shows. For the kids that have stuck around, and kept it up I applaude your commitment. But all in all metal kids are a bunch of lazy douchebags.

And hardcore is full of boners in girls jeans and scarves who talk tough on the internet and then cry about dancing at shows. I hate about 99% of metal kids, and about 82% of hardcore kids.

i miss buried alive.

i feel the same way... except i hate 99% of hardcore kids and 82% of metal kids.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Apr 6,2004 3:11pm
I think metal kids didn't go to shows because there was hardcore bands on the bill who would start lashing out at everyone and it wasn't really worth their time if thats how it was going to be, especially if it was local bands they didn't really know.

The metal show I remember Mark Richards put together was chock full of hardcore bands, which alot of other shows seemed to have been like. I don't see the point of adding hardcore bands just to help bolster the metal scene and I think the hardwork I have done over the past 3 years is finally paying off, and not to take all the credit because I really credit Prophetless productions for paving the way for a metal scene in Boston.

Anyone who was at the last 2 Block shows and the Bostons' Dead series that have been going on can tell you that whoever thinks metal heads are lazy is wrong. The shows are doing great in Boston.

As far as other areas go, I can't really comment because I haven't done a whole lot outside of Boston in over a year, but now that a scene is growing I bet people would travel to see bands they like if they know its going on, and now that they know stuff is going on they will probably keep their eyes peeled. My site has been getting more and more hits each month and I don't know if that has anything to do with more people coming to shows, but sales are up, show attendance is up, more people are hitting my site and the other metal sites and I get tons of people downloading mp3s off Notcommon

i listen to both metal and hardcore(more of a nyhc and stuff influenced by that, but i like some of the new stuff) the way i see it the kids who listen to all metal and go to show and just stand thier watching a band play to see how technical the shit is and how they play something and masturbate over guitar solos, wtf is the point of goin then why dont you just go listen to the cd, and all you guys do is bitch and be nerdy about shit. as far as hardcore kids go, at least they know how to have fun at a show, but they can be very faggoty acting and can be assholes at times but can be cool sometimes also, and ya they bitch alot too but they know how to have fun at shows atleast, i see no reason in the way the dress either, its like hardcore is just one big fashion statement, what happened to just wearing normal clothes like the nyhc bands did and fans. metal shows are starting to get very boring becuase everyone just stands around stands around or they fuckin sumo wrestle, i want more circle pits at metal shows bring it back oldschool at morbid angel and suffocation in 2 weeks. and as far as metalcore goes i think its the best sub-genre out there some of these bands are playing better shit than the metalbands, most metal kids dont like it cuz its hardcore kids playing metal and their are hardcore kids dancing in the pit and stage diving etc so you cant just stand thier and masturbate over guitar solos. thats all i got to say for now

I disagree somewhat. Yeah we stand there sometimes, but it is to learn what they are doing. It may be a hard part we've been practicing and can't seem to get unless visualized by the creator. I slam when the time is right at a show but not the whole time. Some people slam, some people stand, that is just the way it is. Your not going to change it just by bragging about nychc. Shit you probaly don't even know your way around the Bronx. Your probaly even to young to remember Sick Of It All?

toggletoggle post by arsonick   at Apr 6,2004 6:02pm
I dont really like putting it as a "breakdown".

I kind of look at it as a "groove" or an extremely heavy part that makes you want to bob your head or somethng (sounds pretty gay, but yeah im just trying to get my point across). The End';s new shit is chock full of extremely heavy chugs but they aren't breakdowns, even though i gues you can mosh or whatever to them.

I hate looking it as "hardcore mosh part" cause Devourment has at least 5 "breakdowns" in each song they have. You could dance to it, but its fucking heavy as hell and it sounds GOOD.

It's also sort of pointless to compare guitar solos and breakdowns. They're both put in songs for pretty much the same reason, cause they sound fucking cool. Well maybe not, but that's how i see it.

Anyways, my favorites would be around the order of:
Premonitions of War - Layover (the whole end pretty much)
Wormed - Geodesic Dome
Misery Signals - Some breakdown in one of their new songs i found on DC++ (Track05 i think)
Goratory - George clinton.....

I moved to providence recently form New York, and this is the first kinda scene site that i have found. i dont know if tis more of a metal thing than a hardcore thing but i dont want to bust peopls balls if its a metal site. so are there any kids who do appreciate breakdowns, and horror chords, and two step parts, and nice clothes?
