It ONLY happens when I'm watching videos on the interwebs(weird i know). If I'm just browsing the internet or doing anything else it doesn't shut down. Anyone have any ideas why it likes to do this?

videocard/cpu overheat?

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Dec 22,2009 10:52am
It's your system32 folder. Delete it.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 22,2009 10:53am
what kind of videos? Flash-related?

Also, it's fine when you're running a video from the HD?

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Dec 22,2009 10:53am

...or just take my voodoo3. Works fine.

toggletoggle post by Slagadoccio at Dec 22,2009 11:20am
Which was the voodoo with the two cards that you strapped together to make one uber card... was that the voodoo3? that thing was terrible.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Dec 22,2009 11:26am
this is a lappy.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Dec 22,2009 11:26am
Hmmm. I can't remember. I actually never had a voodoo card- arktouros likes to think otherwise though

What OS are you running?

Is it bluescreening and rebooting or just rebooting? Uncheck automatically restart on system failure so you can see if there's a bluescreen message. Then you'll know if it's hardware or software causing the issue.

not not bluescreening and it doesn't reboot it shuts down. i just tried changing my power plan from balanced to high performance and it didn't shut down although it has in the past while watching videos on high performance.

Overheating? Blow some compressed air in any vents you can find for starters. Maybe there's some dust in the HSF. Next step would be opening it up and doing the same if possible. Maybe the heatsink is coming loose too, or needs some new thermal paste. Gateway's are pieces of shit and their company is a joke.

Delete the windows registry. That'll fix it.

Plus you can huff that shit and get a killer buzz.

Also try spraying some WD40 in your RAM slots - it lubricates the data so it gets to your processor faster. (Assuming you've already done the system32 thing, of course.)

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Dec 22,2009 1:13pm
lol i didn't hear that troll before DYA about the WD40. i'm going to use that one.

Try upgrading the drivers for the power supply.

Dump a glass of ants into all the fans. Then take off your pants and smear soggy oats into your chest hair and press all the fucntion keys on the keyboard at once.
