Sucks if true! When they played the last rock n shock, he sounded fucking amazing! I've seen Type O probably 6 or 7 times & he's never sounded as good as he did last time. His vocals were just on a level I've never seen him do before. I talked to him for a minute too, & he was ironically positive. Usually he lives up to the band's name & is just a miserable fuck. But he was rediculously friendly that night.
i really hope this isn't true, but the more i'm reading the more it's looking like it is.

Sucks - I'm not a huge Type O fan, but let's also remember he was responsible for the mighty Carnivore. And if you don't like Carnivore, chances are that you are a nigger faggot.
Yes, this is confirmed, I can verify this, Type O's inner circle is confirming this morning that Pete died of a heart attack at 48. I just got off the phone with my drummer about this, I still can't believe it as I'm typing it, we JUST played with these guys a few months ago, it's too fucking surreal - like Death2All was saying, Pete was really at the top of his game vocally when it came to his live performances, so this is really unexpected as far as the timing. He was just hitting high note after high note (notes not even in the studio versions of the songs, but just choosing to go to the higher octave for a crescendo whenever possible - and nailing it everytime).
I don't know what to say, except that this sucks balls, and that Type O's music will only become more and more appreciated over time, because the quality and originality of it will only stand out more and more. I just can't believe it's all done.

Wow, now Im depressed on top of my anxiety. Very sad, he was an awesome guy.
Our singer spoke to Type O's inner circle (she keeps regular contact with the guy who has done their live sound for years), she texted my drummer, and I received the call just a little while ago - I'm not just reposting from a website - so if this is a joke, it's gone beyond just media/web sites like on previous occasions, and is being circulated individually through other musicians. Not saying it's impossible, but that'd be one hell of a prank, even for them. But hey, here's hoping it IS a prank at this point.
I've been on a mega-Type O binge while dealing with my father's cancer; this is just fucking preciously ironic if it's true. (If so, he managed to beat my dad to the punch by probably a day or two.)

Yeah man. I'll never forget the first time I heard October Rust. I had never heard anything like it, only a small handful of bands reach me on this level. I'll be listening to this band for the rest of my life. DYA just recently showed me the genius of Carnivore.
a couple nights ago i was at my girlfriend's place and there was some shitty vh1 reality show on. one of the broads had a deep voice so i made fun of her and referenced Peter Steele.
the worst part is i've never seen them live and i've had plenty of chances to.
I had practice or something last time they came around and think I literally said "Eh, if he hasn't died yet what are the chances that they won't come around again?"

I agree she is an attention whore, but if I had heard this news, I would have posted it right when I heard it sort of like I did here. I think I posted it 3 minutes after she posted it on twitter. post it quickly, retract it later.
you know, as much as this sucks, i have a different view on it. first, the man spent 20+ years singing about how much he wanted to die, he abused his body for a very long time, so it's not at all surprising that his wishes were granted. second, as bad as this sounds, this leaves him with an unblemished record in music. he came, he rocked, and he died. since 1984 he's been consistently releasing absolute brilliance, from Carnivore, to Type O Negative, to all of the singles and guest appearances. he was a total jackass, and made the best of being a dark neurotic weirdo. RIP good sir, you truly belong amongst the gods of rock n roll.

This sucks. All of my musical idols are dead now. (well, actually Tony Iommi is still kicking, but close enough....) I love Type O and Carnivore is pretty much my favorite band EVER! Type O Negative is pretty much the only band who's new releases I still look forward and anxiously await. That there will be no more new releases truly saddens me.
Not only was a musical genius, Peter was an awesome person. Pete came out to the AC show at North Six in Brooklyn (the gig where Hirax opened). After the show I went around the corner to Duff's. Duff's does not care about legal bar closing times and iusually keeps things going well past 6am. There's a reason every single band that plays Brooklyn does their post-show partying at Duff's.
I was drinking out on the patio and see Mr. Steele at one of the tables, drinking with a couple of wicked hot chicks. Being a total fanboy geek when it comes to Carnivore I went up to shake his hand and see if maybe he remembered me. We had opened for Carnivore before but that was 10 years earlier. We got to talking and he asked my I was so depressed, especially after such a kick ass show (and we did totally kick ass that night if I do say so myself) I knew some of Peter's drug history and we had hit it off well enough that I felt like telling him the truth. I was in the middle of a dope kick (getting ready for a tour, I don't ever ever go on the road with a habit) and I was at the stage where the dope is all out of my system but my brain hadn't started producing its own endorphins yet, which = massive temporary depression. So Pete basically made it his mission to cheer me up that night. yadda yadda yadda, we were still drinking well after sunrise and it was time for us to go back to Boston. I will never forget how cool he was to me that night. Ended with him giving me his phone# and email in case I needed someone to talk to.
A month later my phone rings and a familliar deep, Brooklyn accented voice asks me if AC wants to open for Carnivore at North Six next month. He called me personally. My teenage, fanboy-nerd side came in his pants. Better than phone sex.
I was still locked up when he died and my girlfriend knew how bummed out I'd be so she didn't tell about it until I got released yesterday so this is new news to me. I am still shocked.
RIP Pete. I bet it'll be an amazing Halloween in Heaven this year.
I knew Peter Steele. Got to meet him when Type-O-Negative fisrt played at the Channel in Boston, Ma. Then we got to play with them a few times in the early 1990's (Fithburg, Ma, Manchester, NH. and upstate New York). Also got to see & hang out with Carnivore (one of my biggest influences) at Saratoga Winners in upstate NY in 1995... Pete was the coolest... We're gonna miss you!!
