This one's from an Italian BM webzine - significantly less hilarious in the translation, but still pretty nice:

Darkwor - Foederati (2010)
Darkwor I have a new name in American underground scene, a reality that is growing and this is their first full length. Self.
The American group has brought forth a great release. Musically speaking, the lower is the master and there are some really exceptional guitar riffs.
The themes proposed are: war, mystical, dark, pagan and much love for history and tradition.
This training: Skullbliterator vocals, Angar the vocals and guitar, bass and Eikenskald as a third voice Arktouros drums, keyboards Slug.
Do not let prejudices the keyboard is easily confused with the rest of the music because it is dosed at the right point and the three items were amalgamated as the three faces of Lucifer and sing a devilish black metal only.
If you listen to "desecrating the Remains" and you will see how strong the ability combos U.S. uses these evil 3 entries along with a mournful melody, in seconds it's like entering a long tunnel without end.
Each song holds a small pearl mythicise that terrorizes those who are alien to all this urging him to leave.
Drums and bass guitar are the real weapons of destruction that will introduce you to a triggered sequence headbanging and air guitar while listening.
What to say in conclusion: I would say that the American group Darkwor has excellent skills and technical means above average.
Therefore supported the true underground black metal buying this record made in the USA.

Overall Rating: 7.5 / 10

A couple more crazy euro reviews unfortunately with no hilarious translations.

When I used to hear good bands from the USA it made me angry. How could a country so obsessed with Death Metal be unleashing credible Black Metal? How dare they intrude into the most extreme form of music known to mankind? A music that evolved in Europe drawing upon centuries of history that they do not possess. Gradually after the number of acts I really enjoyed had risen into double figures I began to accept it and now I’m genuinely interested in their scene and the bands of quality that exist…and there are plenty.

Whether you like it or not American Black Metal is becoming an important branch of the scene as it injects some fresh meat into the butchery. Darkwor, although sporting a pretty cheesy name, make some excellent varied sounds with influences, I presume, from all over the place. With quite a heavy sound, incorporating audible rumbling bass, they chug through seven mid range tracks over almost thirty five minutes.

‘Dawn at Adrianople’ is a pretty bog standard type of intro with a void-like static but with a drum roll it eases into the seven minute long title track. Rasping vocals and slow guitars greet you to begin with but it builds up nicely and unleashes a frantic second half of the opening minute with hefty downtuned guitars coarse but not high pitched screaming. You don’t know what they’ll do next, it is unpredictable and changes riff, pace and key without warning. This is one of the best seven minutes of USBM I have heard to date.

‘Renaissance Apocalypse’ is a fast but brutal stabbing ditty with a quality piece of atmosphere in the form of a long single note underneath the riff during the middle barage. Track four is the badly synched ‘III’ with a blaring battle horn it begins but takes a while to get going until they hit a massively downtuned note; must be T flat or something because it’s fuckin’ deep.

There’s a boring three minute ambient track next but then a few picked bars of acoustic which descend into ‘Curse of Atrevs’ which blends Death, Black and a sprinkling of keyboards. Not my favourite on the CD but listenable anyway as the keys don’t get in the way too much. There’s even a solo in there. The final song ‘Desecrating the Remains’ bears more of the same well crafted mayhem.

Sure it is not as pitch black underground as the Black Twilight bands and although they are occasionally dipping their fists into the astral waters in which Abigor and Emperor made their names Darkwor have something for everyone here, and a few surprises in store too, without occupying too much middle ground. It gets pretty chaotic at times with a stack of ideas pouring out musically in quick succession.

Far from sounding over played Darkwor play some really decent Black Metal and have released a fine debut in Foederati and one which you need to hear to believe.

http://scumfeastmetal666.blogspot.com/2010...05/darkwor-foederati-cd-review.html

When American black metal bands/artists are at their best is when they are not trying to full on copy the past greats from Europe. DARKWOR is one of those bands and although it’s impossible not to be influenced in your sound by someone else from black metal’s waves atleast they’re trying very hard. This is not your typical post black metal which is kinda getting old of late nor is it black floyd or some other black progressive seventies hard rock hybrid. If I were to give a reference point it would be that DARKWOR lean more towards black metal’s late nineties period when bands were starting to break free from the confines of the genre’s orthodoxy. What this CD represents, atleast to me, is a band trying to break away from the modern day orthodoxy within black metal which is in my not so humble opinion the marriage of indie rock and black metal. Yeah I still hate that crap.

Don’t let the atmospheric intro “Dawn of Adrianople” seduce you into thinking this is more of what you’re used to hearing. Once the title cut hits you then you’ll be like “Wow that’s interesting”. Instead of the typical DARK BORGIR you get corpse painted graduates from classical music appreciation class. What’s even better is that you can hear the bass and the drummer knows alot more than a blast beat. “Renaissance Apocalypse” is grinding death circling within a blackened industrial centrifuge. “III” opens with a battle horn (?) and from there it pillages to the point of a doom blast then goes straight blackened thrash. This guy’s vocals (Skullbliterator) vary from the satanic frog to angst ridden punk rocker to this is the last thing I’m going to do in my life so I’ll scream till I vomit blood. Their guitarist (Agnar) is fuckin great as well since he mixes alot of death metal leads along with no holds bar thrash rhythms.

There’s a somber sounding ambient cut which for this release is needed but after three minutes of that we go into territory which has been tread before badly by many USBM bands. “Curse of Atreus” is probably the closest that DARKWOR comes to being symphonic on here but they rape it with a sonic dirge of doom and then commence to grind it to pieces. The background keyboards are much more like scenery then a boring soundscape. The final cut “Desecrating the Remains” is when all reality and extreme metal genres are thrown out the fuckin door. Years ago I once read the term “kitchen sink black metal” used to describe a release. This song is it; better yet this whole release is it.
