first and foremost i'll get this out of the way, this is Dissection worship to the point of being a rip-off, but i like the way they went about it in the sense that they don't try to hide it. Everything about this is modeled after Storm of the Light's Bane, the opening track is similar, the second track starts off almost exactly like "Night's Blood", track 6 "Spirit of The Night" is structured almost identical to "Thorns of Crimson Death" even going so far as to use the same melody with a few note changes. The last track is all piano just like "No Dreams Breed in Breathless Sleep", the guitar tone, the melodies, the vocals, everything is modeled after Dissection. Even the cover art was done by Necrolord. However i didn't find that it detracted from enjoying the music. there is enough originality to keep it pleasurable, and it has the nostalgic edge. if Dissection released an album in say, 99, it would sound just like this. This is like a long-lost Dissection album, it acts almost as a bridge between the changes from Storm to Reinkaos, and there are many parts that have a very Reinkaos feel to them. I'm sure many people will hate it and see it as just a cheap rip-off, and normally i find bands like this sickening, but this is actually pretty good. Generally when bands claim to be "influenced" and "paying homage" to the classics i end up thinking "i'll just listen to the classics", but not in this case. The last track is a cover of "The Somberlain", but it should have been omitted, it didn't add anything worth mentioning to one of the best songs ever written. A+ for effort and execution, B+ overall due to the fact that there is so much that is lifted directly from Dissection, but enough originality to make it enjoyable.
