toggletoggle post by zenerik nli at Oct 5,2010 10:48pm
If he wants to go, let him go. Seems he is tired of not always being the go to guy.

His chances of a ring certainly aren't any higher if he gets traded to a team with Brett Favre at QB.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Oct 5,2010 10:52pm
No way will the Vikings trade Allen for Moss. And I doubt the pats would also want Allen just because of the contract he has. They'll trade moss for a 4th rd pick this year and 6th rd pick next year because it's all about value.

For a player at Moss' caliber, the Pats should at least get a top tier player in return not just draft picks. Obviously the Pats struck diamonds this year in the draft with the secondary but we need another offensive target.

toggletoggle post by boxxy at Oct 6,2010 8:35am
The ONLY reason that this would happen is so the Pats could make salary room. That's it. They CAN'T value Moss at a 3rd round pick, so they just must not want to pay em..

toggletoggle post by timma at Oct 6,2010 8:47am
Just in that Moss WILL NOT be getting a new deal from the Vikings.

3rd round pick to rent a player for 12 games...boosh.

Reportedly, the deal is officially done

I'm hoping that this leads to another trade this year....if not, I don't know what they're thinking about

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 6,2010 9:37am
Belichick is trading in his draft picks for the unicycle at Goodtimes. This is fucking garbage. Unless another trade gets worked or they use the extra salary room to appease Logan Mankins and his Ted Dibiase complex I can't see this as anything but a knife in the back of the organization, and a ploy by the league to hand Favre a Super Bowl ring.

yup the trade is official. I can't believe the vikings got him without a contract extension. Apparently there's roomers about us then trading that draft pick AND Mankins to San Diego for Vincent Jackson. Which would be pretty cool.

toggletoggle post by Pires at Oct 6,2010 11:06am edited Oct 6,2010 11:06am
Vincent Jackson is in the same boat as Moss, as in he is also a free agent at the end of the year. And i've seen some reports on the interwebz about Jackson wanting 5 yrs/$50 mil with $30 mil guaranteed. He probably won't get it, especially since he isn't playing right now, but he'll be looking for top dollar. If they're going to pay top dollar to a player, it should be Mankins.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Oct 6,2010 11:07am
sad to see him go .. but not toooo sad. we got plenty of weapons this year and will do just fine without him.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 6,2010 12:39pm
Vincent Jackson hasn't played football since January. He has never produced Randy Moss caliber numbers. Losing a top tier offensive lineman, a top tier receiver and a draft pick all in the pursuit of Vincent fucking Jackson would be an even bigger fail than this deal sounds like.

Then again I'm pissed off to the point where any trade that doesn't involve that Vikings 3rd for Jerry Rice will piss me off even more.

meh, Moss would have left this offseason anyway. I'm glad the Pats got something for him. We gave up a 4th to get Moss, use him up a bit and got a 3rd back. Can't hate.

ESPN Boston is reporting Moss blew up at Bill O'Brien during halftime in Miami.

The fact that Moss was the only one to tell that no nothing hack to fuck off only makes me lament his loss more. O'Brien sucks.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 6,2010 1:43pm
I've heard the, we gave up a 4th it's good to get back a 3rd argument all day. But consider what a monumental choke that original 4th round trade went down in history as. A Vikings 3rd rounder might as well be a 4th rounder considering the NFC title is basically theirs for the taking now. The difference in the two trades is a matter of semantics. This trade still sucks any way you put it.

And for the record, Oakland used the Randy Moss pick to draft John Bowie (CB Cincinatti) who has 5 games, and 2 tackles (total) for his career.

toggletoggle post by Kadoog-a-go-go at Oct 6,2010 1:46pm
I really hoped to see Moss break a lot more records in a Pat's uniform. He really is the Jerry Rice of this era, and trading him for a third round pick just seems fucking retarded.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 6,2010 1:47pm
If, hypothetically, the Vikings win the Superbowl and the Patriots inherit their 3rd round pick we'd be looking at the 96th overall pick.

I had to go back 7 years to find one even arguably worthwhile 96th overall pick and it was Justin Fargas. People here are comfortable trading Randy Moss for (best case scenario) Justin Fargas??

Get me Larry Fitz and I'll eat my words on a silver platter.

Steve Smith has a high ankle sprain. So I'm a bit hesitant to bite there. Plus unlike the QB-less Cardinals, the Panthers just drafted high on a quarterback. I don't see why they'd cough up his biggest weapon right now.

Considering positional value, a WR (even of Fitz's caliber) is a 1st and 3rd type of trade. Any team asking for 2 1sts for their star wideout (i.e. Detroit) isn't really serious about trading.

I know he's getting dicked over by shitty QBs right now, but don't see how to make the trade happen. Then again, I don't get paid to figure these things out. Someone does, and that someone might just be able to pull it off.

well, they should be rebuilding this year, so maybe they'd be willing to trade him for prospects.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 7,2010 10:44am
Rebuilding?! This team has had 11 picks in the first 3 rounds over the last 2 seasons. Half the problem with this team right now is that it's too young. They gave contract extensions to their franchise defensive player, and their franchise QB. This is the time to compete.

I think the 2007 roster spoiled us. Realistically speaking, every team has holes. The Saints just won a Superbowl with Scott Fujita as their pass rusher. The Steelers won a Superbowl the year prior with a terrible offensive line. The Giants won a Superbowl right before that with a sub par secondary.

But to say that the Pats need to hang it up after a 3-1 start is missing the point by a mile.

Based on what? His 14,000+ career yards? Or his 150+ career touchdowns? Quiet down.

toggletoggle post by FrankovHell at Oct 7,2010 6:21pm
Hes old, hes not going to be worth a contract especially with a lockout year. I'd MUCH rather they signed Mankins. Moss is incabable of being a team player no matter where he goes. NE has won super bowls with vastly less offensive weapons at recieving core even without moss. I dont understand why all you guys cry over a player who obviously doesn't give a shit about his team other than "fuck you pay me" .

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 7,2010 7:45pm
Well part of it for me is that I feel like people are mistaking Moss' trademark attitude for the root problems of the team. I'm hearing a lot of "Oh great, we ditched the ego, now let's get back to being a model organization." It scapegoats Moss as the cause of the teams inconsistency instead of the more complicated issues of poor coaching, poor organizing, a several year long lapse in drafting strength, and a much more tangible lack of commitment from big name defensive players.

Boston loves to vilify guys on their way out. Randy Moss might be an egomaniac, but unlike your usual egomaniacs he produced. Drawing devil horns on him as he's on his way out only masks the real issues that most people get can't get their brains around.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Oct 7,2010 8:16pm
Notice how, besides what Moss said publicly while he was here, we didn't hear about any of the "issues" he was causing (blow up with O'Brien, pissing off Belichick, gathering the players during the National Anthem to get them going, etc.) until AFTER he was traded....seems fishy to me, especially after Belichick made it a point today to come out publicly (the press conference he had today was not a regularly scheduled one) to completely refute it all

I don't see why the Chargers would want Mankins. Their offensive line is fine the way it is.

Supposedly the Chargers asking price is a 2nd and a 3rd outside the conference, and a 1st and a 2nd inside the conference. If the Pats give up a 1st and a 2nd for Vincent Jackson this will without a doubt be an even bigger failure than unloading Moss for a 3rd.

Chris Johnson was bitching about the Titans not going after Randy Moss. There was obvious interest from all over the NFL. There HAD to have been a team out there willing to offer more than a late 3rd round pick. I try and try to get past this, but every day I think of a new reason to hate this trade.

Adam Schefter restores some sanity

"Vincent Jackson is not headed to New England," Schefter said in a Friday morning interview on Boston sports radio station WEEI. "You look at it and you say it makes sense, it's just not going to happen."

...

"Vincent Jackson, You're going to have to spend roughly $50 million [on a contract extension] -- $9 [million], $10 million a year on a wide receiver that's one strike away from a yearlong suspension," he said. "On top of that, San Diego is adamant that it get back a second- and third-round pick, and New England has done a tremendous job stockpiling picks, I don't think is in the business of looking to unload those picks for a premium-price player when we may have all these picks in a draft that is incredibly rich in talent and in which there may be a rookie cap and you get basically these guys under contract at a bargain rate."

Perfect. Hot off a 437 yard, 2 TD season with the Seahawks. Get ya wheelchairs ready.

I liked the idea of Branch coming over here a year ago as a 3rd or 4th option. They went with fucking Joey Galloway instead. Now we've got a whole depth chart of 3rd and 4th options and a talented draft pick that can't even get on the field because of it.

And at this point, is Seattle really in that much of a rush to cough up Branch? It would certainly make room for Golden Tate to develop. But as it stands they've (somehow) got a shot to compete in their division. Is a 5th round pick worth taking a bite out of their already slim passing attack?

Then again new coaches love to dump guys like this. Ugh. It'll probably happen.

Looking at his stats..
Branch has 29 career receiving TDs. He's barely 31 years old.
Biggest difference with Moss is height. Moss is 6'4'' I believe, whereas Branch is 5'9, 5'10

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 8,2010 2:14pm
Other notable differences:

* Even when festering on the Raiders Moss never dropped below a 12 1/2 yard per reception average. Branch is coming off a 9.7 yard per catch avg.

* In 12 complete seasons Moss has missed only 6 games. Branch hasn't played a complete season since 2005. He's missed 19 games since being traded to the Seahawks.

* Branch's catches for first downs from 2009, 2008, and 2007 barely edge out Moss' first down catches in 2009.

* Does anyone care to remember that Deion Branch is the same guy that held out and demanded to be traded to anywhere but New England because he thought he was bigger than Tom Brady and Belichick?

if you listen to as much sports radio as I do, you will hear callers bitching about the Pats trading him away TO THIS DAY because the year after, their best WRs were Caldwell and Gaffney...what people neglect to point out is that the Pats got a 1st round pick for a guy who has never had a 1000-yard season or more than 5 TDs in a single regular season his whole career

and now if they give up anything more than a 5th round pick to get him back, there will be rioting in the streets...Pats Nation can eat a dick

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Oct 8,2010 3:03pm
Jerod Mayo for Deion Branch is Belichick's Babe Ruth for cash. Anyone who disagrees is out of their mind.

Moss for a 3rd will turn out to be Belichick's Jeff Bagwell for Larry Anderson. Anyone who disagrees is raviolis.

Every time Brady went back to pass, planted his feet, bent his knees a little and looked long, you thought one thing: MOSS!!!!!!!!!! I used to stand up. I really did. Just the sight of Brady taking that extra second brought me off the sofa.

If you didn't, you're a pussy.

A rolling Brady collects no Moss.

Mike, Felger had an interesting take on the Branch trade. In short, he said if you looked at Branch's stats like Yards per catch ,TDs and whatnot, he seems like he's the same guy we had. The other point he made was that the Seahawks have misused him, at his height, size and style, in a west coast offense when he's a WR perfect for the spread offense. So the injuries would be attributed to the additional beatings he'd take as an undersized WR in a up the middle hit heavy west coast scheme.

Otherwise, Vincent Jackson and Larry Fitz is never gonna happen.

One guy I'd wonder about, Lee Evans. Talented guy rotting in Buffalo. I know he's in our division but that team is fire sale ready.

Perfect for the spread offense... just as we're transitioning away from the spread. Mike Reiss said something along the lines of the Pats using 30-40% less 3 and 4 WR sets than last year. Felger is a hack like all radio guys.

I'd be very open to the idea of Lee Evans for the right price.

Agree on the first half. We got that and if we get back Branch for a 5th or 6th rounder and he still contributes, we win all day long on those deals.

Disagree on the second only because we never got shit out of Bagwell due to him being in the minors. At least we can say we got stuff out of Moss towards the end of his career. The Bagwell trade was an epic fail of epic fails.

Perhaps it's more comparable to when the A's let Reggie Jackson leave.

There ya go. We'll just have to wait and see if the Vikings keep him and go on a rampage of Super Bowls.

Farve likes to send pictures of his junk to hot new reporter chicks in NY.

They'll make the playoffs so he can throw 7 interceptions in a playoff game.
