New site? Maybe some day.
Hey, when you list a show, you should list where it IS. Not the club, the town. Like: "April 2, Spinny 5, Joe Bravo, and Utopian Police Force in WORCESTER"
Sometimes, people that don't even know or care who the bands are will go just because there's a show nearby and local. It happened to me with the GooRoo room in Plymouth. I'm going to check out a show tomorrow, for a bunch of bands I don't know and a style of music I don't even like, but I'm broke, it's nearby, and it gives me something to do.
Just a suggestion, use it or not. |
Amen to that. I drove all over the state of Virginia looking for the Timi Grabber Memorial Amphitheatre hoping to see Doodoo Brown with Timmy T and their All-Star Freestyle Freaknik Freakout |
i would think the best way is to put the city/town in the title then list the actual venue in the info body. |
Unless you're Josh Phillips. Then it's okay to not tell anyone anything at anytime. |
I'd like to book a show in Boston and put on the flyer that this Josh Phillips twerp is not permitted to entry. |

This.
I've seen a lot of posts about the Guru lounge here before, but it wasn't until SD just played there that I realized it was 2 minutes away from me in Plymouth. Otherwise, I would have been at every single show they've had. |
Who is Josh Phillips? Is it the new Kenny Lanning? |
Josh Phillips transcends promotion. |
step 1: only include your band in the event title as to show people you dont give a fuck about the other bands playing, and you're cocky enough to think that youre band can draw on its own
step 2: dont make it easy to figure out where the show is
step 3: dont make a flyer or make one that makes the show look amateurish
step 4: only promote online
step 5: profit? |
- Date, location, cost, start time, and age limit. I've seen many fliers without some or ALL of this info, shit's WEAK
- Post the venue's full address on the flier. Most people use GPS and this would help greatly
- If you're too lazy to insert band logos, atleast make the font text legible. Seeing plain white text on a multicolored BG is just useless
Speaking of band logos:
type the name of the band underneath legibly. Not necessary, but sometimes we're used to seeing the bands name on here typed out, and some of these band logos are illegible as hell. (I know that's the way it's supposed to look, but I honestly can't tell the difference between a Dysentery logo and Cryptopsy logo on a flyer 5 feet away. Maybe I'm showing my age, ... |

pictures of satan and boobs on fliers adds 10% to the show draw |

INDEED! |
wait wait wait... SPINNY 5 IS PLAYING A SHOW?!
what city are your pants in? |
They're big pants. It's more like a county thing than a city.
$5 door fee, pay at the zipper please.
As does a quasi-transparent image of Myatt |
are there pre-sale tickets? ARE THERE? I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS |
this thread transcends local promoters |
how many tickets do i have to sell to attend? will there be rituals? |
How about these secret location basement shows?
I have a stack of flyers for a basement/bbq show we're playing in a couple weeks, but there's no address on the flyer... only "ask a punk for directions".
so dumb.
I don't even know the fucking address. |
In seriousness? Nope.
You didn't list where it is in the title. THUS, the only reason people will even clicky clicky is if they're interested in the bands themselves. So some local tard like myself who would go see bands he doesn't know for giggles will never even know there's a show nearby.
Kinda the whole original point of this thread. |

I hate that, but I also totally understand the need for it. |

Kenny Lanning is dead, long live Kenny Lanning! |

Free entry with the donation of a canned good or a mexican migrant worker. |
Ima just gonna read the first half over and over and pretend it's true. |

its listed within the post and there is an event for it showing the club location. if you're gonna be that picky you're gonna miss out on alot of good times. if you dont like or know the bands then why would you go the show just based on where venue is? |
Dude, read my first post. There was a reason for this thread. Of course, if you don't want to get as many people as possible at your show, that's fine.

Sometimes I go to local venues to check out bands I don't know anything about. Not every band has recordings online to check out. Just playing devil's advocate, I'll personally go to any show with tits on the flier. |
this is why i put up flyers too. and most of the time i list the club/city. i just forgot this time.
also that thread has 1200 views. so people are clicking on it regardless. |

Wow, you really aren't understanding me, eh? I gave you a helpful tip. People jumped in and agreed. Maybe you could learn from it?
It's not about thread views, it's about how many people actually show up to see you play, right? |
i actually just changed it. i am merely having a discussion here. no need to get worked up about it. thank you for the tip sir i will make sure to keep it in mind. |
I mostly am worked up about it because for a few YEARS people have been playing shows 2 seconds away from me, and I never even realized there was a local venue doing metal shows. I'm way outside boston/worcester, so even for bands I like, I tend to see show listings and assume it's boston or worcester.
Now if what applies to me applies to people elsewhere, you could find yourself with an extra 10 people or something at your show.
Doesn't effect you too much, but for a guy like me bored out of his tits on a friday night, woulda been nice to know there were some metal bands playing right down the street. |
Duely noted. I actually thought I originally included this information in the thread title when i said "AMI DOIN IT RIGHT". so whoops. come to this show now that you now where it is. |
Another tip for promoters: always make The Rev pay double at the door. |
ITT: Alx is full of the best ideas ever |
Have Rev's car towed.
