SDM: Do you think the new drummer of Suffocation is going to have a difficult time getting down the material from Souls to Deny, Blood Oath, and the Suffocation self-titled release?

Mike: The new drummer won't have a hard time, because the hired guitarists can't play the songs, so he will have nothing to worry about.

hahaha

"Truthfully, I never break skins or sticks. I could use the same skins through an entire tour if need be"

Hmmmmm. Coming from a band that broke stuff constantly (and not usually on purpose, contrary to popular belief) I gotta call suspect on that one.
Me and Tim (or Nate, or John) were always having to stop at Guitar Center every 3 days or so for strings and sticks. And we didnt use cheap shit. You either hit (and pick) HARD, or you dont.

Day one, day shmun. I got to play with one of the best drummers in the world. and he said Culross blew Mike Smith out of the water. I'll take Gillis's word over some nignog's

Whatever

Not sure what his name was, But the drummer on PFW was their best drummer. That dude was doing sick shit, straight up blasts, alt blasts, in three and four in the same run, sick fills, tight as fuck. Yup that dude was badassed.

BTW If the guy says he doesn't break sticks or heads, what's with all the shitting on him? I thought he was a nice guy the few times I met him.

I wasnt shitting on anyone. Shit, I saw Suffocation back on the Breeding the Spawn tour. Im not just being an asshole here (like I usually am) Im just stating what I was told by people who KNOW A WHOLE LOT MORE ABOUT DRUMS THAN I DO.

Right on man. Was the show you went to at Chapter 2? My old band played that show ha ha. We are getting fucking old bro.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Mar 13,2012 9:49pm
dude, you have no idea how much getting old sux. not yet at least. I used to see Suffocation a lot back in my NYC days, with the nignog drummer. Alls Im saying is he aint all that.
foundng member shmounding member. I played with a guy who was better than anyone who even ever thought about joining Suffocation and accordng to him, Culross was the better drummer (and anyone who ever played with Gillis can back me up here) Ill take his word over the bitter nignog's anyday

I said earlier man, That my opinion was that The guy on pierced From With is was their best drummer.
So I am not For Mike or against him. Culross was pretty good with MC, so I have no reason to believe that he is going to bring The S down.

I dont have an idea about how sucky getting old is? Ha ha ha ha. Really? My body aches from lifting 300 pound rocks and breathing in cancer dust in the sun for almost 20 years.... Believe me I know. i can't even sleep at night sometimes. Anyways....Your drummer is your opinion, so have it... he is better...to you anyways. It remains to be seen once we hear new tracks.

BTW, getting back to Mike, I remember hearing how out of time that last few records were, I am ready to hear Suffo record with a click, call it gay, but nothing ruins an album more than out of time songs. ...and there is a difference between feeling the mood and blatant out of time. I am a time nazi maybe its just me.

culross IS the guy on pierced!!! so we're in agreement here. and as far as getting old,,,,,,gods help you if you;'re in as bad a shape as I am.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Mar 13,2012 10:34pm
Is he???? Lemmie check....

No dude, it says here in the cd sleeve, Doug Bohn played drums on that record.

I think Culross played on dispise The sun. I know he was in Malevolent Creation and a few other bands.

Not sure your shape or age, but Im 36 in April going on 65

I got three years on you. and a failing liver. Maybe your Suffocation trivia is better than mine, but we both know the nignog didnt play on the good record. Peace ok? Trust me you will outlive me.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Mar 13,2012 10:56pm
dude, First, that sucks about your liver, but, you are still alive! I could die tomorrow, you could live 30 years, you never know for certain. Take it easy man.

Now if they just replace Frank Mullen, this band might be listenable again.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 14,2012 8:41am
ahahahaha

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Mar 14,2012 9:37am
I like Mike cuz he has a different style. No one plays like him. He is up there in the talent dept. IMO. Culross can definitely be labeled as better. Despise the Sun is one of my favs.

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Mar 14,2012 9:38am
And replace Frank? Really, man?

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Mar 14,2012 10:03am
Yes, really. His phrasing on the last 2 full-lengths was terrible, it barely followed the music. Despise the Sun was the last release that I really enjoyed. After that, it just sounds like random cookie monster vocals that ruin the solid riffing for me.
