One thing I can actually agree with beelze on, while not as extreme.
You know when Pedroia comes out in the press and questions what you're doing, you're not doing well with the players in that clubhouse.

Other than that, I would tend to agree for the most part.
I will say though that the ownership is the real reason why this team is so unlikable right now. They smear mud on anyone they let go or plan on letting go. They impose their will at the wrong time (hiring of Valentine, for example). They care more about the festivities than the baseball, and they have their hands in too many things other than baseball to really care about it. They don't communicate with each other at all apparently (if you missed it last week, read about what Francona said about being invited by Lucchino to the 100 year anniversary of Fenway celebration, it will piss off any Red Sox fan). |

Exactly, this ownership group soured me on the team more than any one player (although I can't stand Beckett). I remember the exact moment when I stopped caring about the Sox, when I heard they'd traded Manny after spending the week prior to the deadline smearing him in the media. I was just fucking done. Francona was leaving one way or another. Valentine sucks though. If history is any indication he'll probably be content to tank the season and use it as an excuse to bring in the players he wants next year. Epstein is still on the hook for most of this debacle IMO. The opening day payroll for this team is $173,186,617 (3rd in the MLB) for a team that doesn't scare anybody on either side of the ball and has practically no one in the farm system anymore. |
