Please flyer for shows I book you on, I had a show on Saturday at the Chopping Block and there was a few people from other bands on upcoming shows and only Phantom Limb brought flyers for an upcoming show that I booked.

Bands who do not help promote shows I book them on will not get booked by me anymore.
If the guys from BOE and Watchmaker (etc) who are older and with families can flyer for shows, and Abhorred can come down from Lowell all the time to flyer for shows, then nothing should be stopping the rest of you.

That is all.

Make some flyers, I'll flyer them out all over the place.

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Jun 29,2004 12:16pm
i spend every sat afternoon flyering on the south shore @ record stores that allow it and all the guitar stores from dedham to plymouth

toggletoggle post by Dissector   at Jun 29,2004 12:36pm
I was planning on hitting up a bunch of guitar centers and newberry comics. I'm apart of a shit load of yahoo groups so I can send out mass emails in one click. The only problem is not many of them are from MA.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 29,2004 12:41pm
your show has a flyer in the flyer thread

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Jun 29,2004 12:48pm

if it's worth doing, over do it

for every boe show i make
1000 1/4 flyers
500 8.5x11
+ i have 600 e mail address'

for each individual flyer I usually do around 100 copies.
If it's one of my flyers with a few shows on it, I tend to do more.

hmm the art of flyering

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 29,2004 12:59pm
Flyering is very important, I believe.

toggletoggle post by eddie  at Jun 29,2004 1:05pm
i dunno when some body hands me a flyer it like them saying to me "here you throw this away". -mitch hedburg

i'm j/k i'll make sure your flyer feces is everywhere.

my flyers may be boring and plain but i promote all our shows wether they are big ones like the "mayham convention"(this show will be packed wether i flyer or not) or just local ones like the aug 9th fitchburg show to me they all rate the same dedication and importance with promotion.

I know that does happen to an extent, but flyers are so inexpensive to make that it does make it effective. For every 50 people that get the flyer, if 10 of them come then it's worth it I would say.

Plus, if the bands on the show and myself are all flyer for it, so that show is constantly in people's faces, then they will tend to remember it even if they don't have a flyer on hand.

I think I'm gonna start making flyers for everyshow we play. And at the top write "Nu Metal Extravagansa!" and leave piles of them at every Hot Topic in the area.

Then they come to the show wearing their multi zipper pants and fishnet shirts and we show them what real metal is.

haha

I think that flyering is KEY. I also feel that internet mailings are junk/worthless. I'd have to say that 90% of the people on our mailing list got on it by finding us online, not at shows in person. Same with mySpace, and message boards. I think the most effective way to get word around is to go to where the metal heads hang out and start flyering right in front of them. Then walk up and make a friend or two and give them some flyers too. Do this for all walks of life that might consider going to a show and that's where you'll get results. Find the goth kids, hardcore kids, even the emo ones. Maybe 2 out of the group would take slight interest but that's a start. Also, just going out bar hopping in areas where you're playing and bringing hand bills to give to people that might look like the types to go to shows is helpful. Even talk to the bartender's and see if you can't leave some right on their bar for the night. Just some suggestions.

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Jun 29,2004 2:01pm
Also, even if the flyer is for a 21+ show, give them to anyone who likes metal, they might want to find out about the bands on the bill even if they cant go to that show

i know about 5 bands that are realy sick and dont do a fucking thing to promote themselves and they wonder why they have no shows

on the other hand i know some bands that suck ass that play out every weekend and have followings due to the work they do promotion they do.

i think subjuate has the best game plan here. the myspace can personaly target people from the area. the 1/4 flyers are way better than the huge ones cause they are easier to throw in your pocket. i throw away so many useless huge flyers. at your own shows it would be best to have small flyers with your several of your own shows so your fans will know. at "other" shows its all about putting the flyer in the right hands cause someone that might not even like BOE or any other band might like another band on the list its all about knowing the audience....i have stated several times there is nothing wrong with adding a shity metal core band or a high school band from the town to draw in the $$$ crowd. i find nothing wrong with exploiting dorks to pay for my good time.

hey Joe - if you do any all ages shows we're down, and we'll promote them till we puke.

we won't do 21+ shows though.

and if you ever book us with ascendancy that would be sick cause I've been wanting to see them live but haven't the money to pay to go do that. Jay from Aganihm said they are technical gods.
