Mikael Åkerfeldt's assertion that metalheads “don’t really want to know about what they’re getting” seems to make zero sense in a world where people download albums before buying them, or at least hear them on YouTube or via label-sponsored streaming on SoundCloud. In fact, metalheads have always wanted to hear the album before buying, even when they had to do it with CD players and headphones in record stores (as in the 1990s). It seems as if metalheads are picking albums for reasons that Åkerfeldt just doesn’t understand.

Calling someone closed-minded is kind of a closed minded-thing to say.

I am a music fan, not close minded at all.

translation: Opeth sales are declining but I won't admit it's because of shitty song-writing and douchey frontmanism.

I love old Opeth, but Heritage sucked balls and he's using metal fans as a scapegoat instead of admitting the album really sucked.

Sales seem to be ok, but I would he's half right and half douche.

The article just proves mikael's point, his words are somewhat skewed and over analyzed. To be fair he is being a douche, which I find amusing to some degree. Would there have been as many hard feelings if the current line-up had changed their name for this album? Definitely not as many album sales.. Storm Corrosion. But the album probably would have kept it's national acclaim, maybe would've even won just as many awards. Robert Fripp didn't change King Crimson name when they re-grouped in the 80's, granted I do find 70's Crimson to be far superior. Maybe metal-heads should be more open minded or maybe I should just... Shutup Fagget.

no, he could have called it Blowpeth and the album still wouldn't have been anything to write home about.

I had formerly dubbed it Slowpeth but Blowpeth has a better ring to it
