Would you work 112 hours a week for 4.90 an hour if you were a legal US citizen that had any more than a 1/4 of a brain?
I feel no sympathy for that toolbox.

I sort of agree, but would tend to blame the boss/company/system that allows this to happen more than I would the individual. It's probably still more than he was making at home, and he surely didn't know what his rights were. Now that he does, he doesn't work there anymore.
I have a friend who was born in Mexico and lived there for 18 years before coming here to work (legally). He told me that the reason why many Mexicans come here to work is because at least if you work more hours, you get paid more. In Mexico, they pay you whatever they want. This is why a lot of immigrants come here and work for low hourly rates, in the stead of an American or someone else who knows their rights. The two most important points in my opinion are:
1) yes, a person should know his rights in the country in which he is residing.
2) blame the system, not the honest man trying to make an honest living.
