Kiss this Blarney Stone.

St. Patrick or better known by his real name "Maewyn Succat", was born of an Italian father and Scottish mother. He was sold into slavery at a young age and escaped to France after about 6 years of bondage. He placed himself in a monastery and was taken under the wing of Bishop St Germain, where he assumed his baptismal name "Patricius". St. Patrick began having visions that (Eire) Ireland was calling him back to teach them about "God". Subsequently, he was used as a political tool by the Vatican to convert Ireland to Christianity. He used the Shamrock as a symbolic means of teaching the heathen culture of the holy trinity. The infamous legend goes that St. Patrick had driven all of the "snakes" out of Ireland. This was just a metaphor for destroying and converting the existent pagan culture (snakes = pagans). It is said he once lead a sit-in at Tara Hill, in an attempt to break the power of the old gods. Speaking of Tara Hill; Ireland's new god (money) wants to put a roadway directly through this sacred site. How wonderful.

Not exactly a day of celebration, in my opinion.
