Well, my reasoning led me to understand that the longer-format and higher-quality of recording these days necessitates multiple and better quality records, which is understandable. Also the artwork and packaging are of a much better quality, which is tops in my book. And, most decent labels include free mp3 downloads, another simple but brilliant advance. All in all, new-school vinyl rocks, but I still can't feel right about spending $25-30 on a record, that's like 5% of most people's weekly salaries. Ideally I'd be able to walk into a store and buy 2-3 records to last me the week, and a 12 pack for the weekend, and not feel horribly guilty about it. Hooray for inflation!
