Fucking fantasic scene and a great ending. We can assume Frank, Miles, Sawyer, Kate, and Claire died at some point after the crash for whatever reason. Hurley and Ben appeared to live quite a while after Jack replaces the cork and dies on the island, with Hurley telling Ben "you were a great number 2." I don't think it was a cop-out ending. They made the last episode about accepting death, I think it would have fell short with any other theme.
