Since that chamber gives off the vibe of being a quasi-religious area (what with the huge head and whatnot), maybe this is a mural of the antithesis of whatever the head represents? Now that I say that, it could just be the depiction of the end product of that black liquid, but then it starts to look like the engineers are combining their science and religion.
