In a city that seems to constantly disappoint by just putting up Luxury Condos, Hotels, and Whole Foods developments. 3S Art Space is one of the best things that has happened to Portsmouth, NH in a very long time. Music venue(s) in this town for music that is heavier or draw a medium sized crowd died off a decade ago. Sadly, most people didn't notice which is probably one reason it too all the work it did to open 3S. Now, there is a great spot for certain bands to fit in and bring some culture back to the seacoast. The names they are getting are huge too. Not just Earth, but some heavy hitters in the music work like Thurston Moore, Mission of Burma, and Ian Svenonius stopped by recently. No Man's Gloom is on next wednesday the 2nd, KYOTY on the 5th, and Luna (the first big band I ever saw live) will be there in October. If you care about seeing music like this without driving 1hr+ to Cambridge or Portland, I'll see you at these shows. Before people start in on "Book and Bar" or "Pressroom", the shows that go to either of those venues are smaller and definitely not heavy. Portland is able to support multiple place like 3S and it has not just helped the local shows, it helps local art, artists, and most importantly fostered the people with the drive to make the DYI scene bigger. Portsmouth, I'm watching you... Don't let me down here.
tl;dr:As for the pictures, about an hour before the show started, I got extremely sick from some meds I'm taking due to device failure at the Endodontist. I tried to hold it together during the show which I mostly did, but the pictures suffered and I just can't photoshop the images like I did to the one above right now. In the past, I never ever ever photoshop my images beyond the front page shot, but I wanted to get better starting with this show. Unfortunately, the universe conspires against me this day. Change is slow, I guess. So I'm tossing them up straight out of the camera and hope for that change again later. A work flow that has been virtually unchanged for more than a decade won this evening. | |
