You know in UHF how the tv station is being taken over by evil corporate scum bags and Weird Al had to do all these crazy shenanigans to raise money? We'll I'm Weird Al and the BCCA is the radio station.

Long story short, the Brookline Community Center for the Arts has been trying to buy their building in order to secure their future as a venue for the arts. Some of the people that were putting up the money to do this suddenly backed out at the last minute and unless the BCCA can raise a shit load of money in the next 3 weeks and find another co-signer for the buy, the land lord is going to sell the building out from under them.

If you don't want one of the few all ages venues this city has to turn into another cvs or dunkin donuts, read on!

The BCCA is currently one of the ONLY places to do all ages events in boston. They host everything from Jazz dance classes, to martial arts, to metal shows. This place is SO fucking crucial to the arts in Boston and I can't stress enough how important it is that they stay open. Not only do they support me booking shows there, but they have asked me to join the staff. If they can stay open they are going to PAY ME to book shows FULL TIME. HOLY FUCK. TONS OF SHOWS.

Here's how you can help:
A. Come to a benefit show. I have two coming up.
B. Donate money. anything you can. If your in a band, here's a nice perk. Whatever money you donate can be put towards a future room rental if you want to put on a show at the BCCA.
C. Spread the word. Tell your aunts, uncles, brothers, co workers, favorite politicians, whomever! We need LARGE checks from anyone that can afford to give. its tax deductable!

For more info on the BCCAs sitch, read this: http://www.bccaonline.com/support/

yeah, lets just have joe not common book all the 21+ or 18+ shows in boston with SHITTY bands but sometimes the exceptional GOOD bands (i.e. Ascendancy thats pretty much it for good bands) godforbid this guy does an all ages show guaranteed his draw would be all the low life mall rats from south shore plaza and the usual kids who go to his shows.

you know people who book GOOD shows dont book bands that THEY only like. they book shows to keep a venue going no matter what band it is as long as it draws a lot of people to keep the venue going. and when that venue is there for a while then you can book shows with nobody bands that no one cares about but hey if enough shows go on their you'll have regulars that'll come by and hear something new they might like or not like which will give everyband a chance.

and i for one agree we need to ATLEAST keep this venue going specially since there are practically no all ages venues in boston period. and if this place keeps going perhaps with a little luck it'll influence another venue to do all ages shows.

i'll definetly be going to this show and showing support because we need all ages shows back in boston by an open minded promoter so it won't be just a strictly metal or a strictly grind or a strictly hardcore or a strictly indie or a strictly punk venue.

it seems more and more places are closing, maybe for the means of rebuilding and becoming something else, or just generally changing genres and possible "clientelle". options for good places for us metal musicians are getting slim, as if it wasn't difficult in the first place, we have to keep trying harder to find shows. although it's not our fault people have no taste in music, it's not our fault we like songs that have depth and technicalities of variation ignorant pop-goers can't understand, we still have to try to salvage what crumbling ground we have left. sites like this, shows like this, and the people that put fourth their effort from their daily lives to make all this happen are the reason we still have the drive to do what we do and make the music that the average joe can hate. even if you don't make it to the show, at some point there will be something you want to see happening here. and who knows, it may even become one of the bigger and better places, what with other places like the chopping block and exit 23 closing doors, and i thought i heard something about fat cats not hosting metal shows anymore. so toss j-dude some cash, it's a good investment.

also, just so people know, if this place sticks around im going to be booking a TON of shows there. They asked me to be the official "Event manager", which means im actually going to be PAYED to book events. thats fucked up right?

I know I don't book straight metal shows very often, but i'd love to get bands like Ascendancy and Command presence over here to play shows. If we can raise enough money I promise to do my part in keepin' metal alive.

also, thanks in advance for coming rev

because I'm fearless. I've seen watchmaker before. i try not to let other people ruin good times for myself. plus I'd rather support something diy instead of the middle east. I was also under 18 once for a few years, I'd like to see kids have a venue to go to. bitterness is not a sign of age it's a sign of demise.

You're right, the Middle East isn't DIY. Its owned by Clear Channel. (you moron)
No venue has done more for the Boston music scene than the Middle East. Go to whatever show you want to, but don't delude yourself into thinking its a big corporation vs tiny DIY venue thing.

I hate how people always try to set it up on this board like there is some sort of competition between me and every other promoter, because their isn't. I don't even know Jonah. To say my shows are any less DIY is bullshit, and to say things like 'Time for everyone who's bitching about no all ages shows to support' is stupid. I am sure alot of the bands I book would agree that time has come and gone. For some reason people outside the scene I book in try to act like I am some sort of evil empire and that these underground all ages shows should be supported more then the corporate shows from notcommon at those corporate dive bars like Obriens and the Block. It's the most ignorant attitude I've encountered in my life. For years these sorts of bands didn't have many places to play, and when they did it was mixed up on some stupid line up that got them nowhere. Alot of these bands wouldn't have places to play with bands they want to play with if it wasn't for me booking shows, it's not like I am just jumping to the fore front of some huge movement that already existed, we created this (me and the bands I book and the fans). Another thing, Jonah's shows seem to always have the same local bands so bashing me for that is retarded as well, I'd say I book from a wider selection of local bands. Just because it's not the same bands he does doesn't mean I am overlooking the true underground scene.

Josh Ascendancy tried to do this same fucking thing with me and Nick of Silver, and what I just said goes for that as well.

Nobody, well not any of promoters, are putting anyone in a position where we make them choose who to support, we just book shows that we want to book and have fun doing it. I think I can speak for Jonah on that.

If you don't want to support shows in the 'scene' I am a part of and hate the bands then fine, but to act like it's anything more then that is just fucking gay and I hope you die.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Dec 14,2004 11:20am
I just thought it was ridiculous Joe even got brought into it, because this gay ass benefit show is the same night as MY show, not one of Joe's.

toggletoggle post by JonahBloodbath   at Dec 14,2004 12:08pm
josh, the middle east is special because its one of the only boston venues that ISN'T owned by clear channel or lions group. its an indie.

its still 18+, which sucks, but its important that they have stayed away from corporate interestets this long.

in any case, diy shows rely on good turn out. there's no bar money, or high ticket prices, so I've gotta rely on people coming out in numbers if I want to raise money. Going to a DIY show vs. an 18+ bar show is a very concious choice. I'm glad you know whats up bornsovile..

Joe, you are paranoid.
As far as the Nick Silver incident, you got insanely paranoid over me talking about all the promoters in the North East, but you magically interperted that as you being the only promoter. If anything that post was directed towards Sin promotions who at the time was actively pursuing shows in the area. I didn't pull anything on you, trying to make yourself look like a victim is so fucking retarded. I woulda told you this months ago in all those emails and phonecalls I sent to you but since you refused to talk about it (for whatever reason), you dwelled into your warped perception.
I'm shocked you took the time to write a big paragraph about how ignorance bothers you. If you are so bothered by this shit you should start up your own thread instead of raiding Jonah's with this bullshit.
Honesty goes a long way with me.
THIS SHOW IS GONNA BE FUCKING INSANE!!!!!*

*this statement in no such shape or form is directed in ignorance to Joe Notcommon or the participants in the opposing scene at the Watchmaker show on 12/19.

jesus christ...i never knew such a big production would be made over a benefit show the same night as a show at the middle east.

first off, i'll say that i've tried listening to adolf satan's demo a million times and i can't stand it. some of the music sounds good, but larry lifeless has the worst voice i've ever heard. i don't know if that's the point, but nonetheless it's not my style but i have respect for them at the same time.

i can see why some people argue for going to the middle east to see adolf satan and watchmaker, who are fucking awesome, just for a different style of music...but let's face it: the middle east has been around for a long time, it's doing very well on it's own right now and probably will for years to come. the BCCA, even though i'm not familiar with it, is at risk right now. i for one would favor going to the BCCA show, even if it was full of bands that suck ass, since watchmaker and adolf satan can get shows easily wherever, and the BCCA needs help...or i could just donate money to the BCCA and go to see watchmaker.

i don't know if anyone on the middle east side of the argument in this thread complains about there not being enough places to have shows, low attendance at shows, fewer bands to play with, shitty kids going to shows, or just a lack of a tight knit 'scene', but if there are, they should think about what they're saying. anyone getting offended by this, don't get your panties in a knot. if you are offended, then you're probably someone that i'm talking about and you need to get the sand out of your vagina.

there are a shitload of different bands in this area, and the number grows every day; there are fewer and fewer venues to play at, whether all ages or not. i'm 21 so i can get into any show i want, but i can remember missing a shitload of awesome shows when i was younger, and i don't like the idea of all ages shows being threatened, even if it's just one venue that may be going down. have some sense, get off your pedestals and toss a few bucks or at least some fucking words of encouragement to jonah. what he's doing is a million times better than 90% of the people in the whole 'scene' or whatever you want to call it, and i fully support him. i'm not sure if i can make it to either of these shows, but i'll try to toss a few bucks in soon.

toggletoggle post by MarkFuckingRichards  at Dec 15,2004 12:21am
no problem dude, always glad to help

haha, fest...i wish man. the 2nd bitter end fest was going to be sick as hell. i had a lot of awesome bands lined up, more help, and a much better set up and shorter schedule. unfortunately, money came into play. bills, college, and only working 2 days a week can take a toll on the old wallet.

hopefully once i'm done with school (in a year and a half) i'll get back into setting up shows. there will never be another 'bitter end fest' but there will be something similar. there was no way that 'company' was staying alive with only 2 people actually giving a shit, but both with no money, heh.

Yeah, maybe at dumps with shitty sound like O'Briens. It took a lot of talking to get this show at a real club with a real PA. The Middle East has had a lot of problems with metal shows in the past and metal was all but banned from there for a few years. It's only because Shred took over the booking that metal is getting another chance there. I had to agree to let him hire an extra bouncer in order to have this show there.
Shows at the BCCA have been mostly emo/screamo type stuff.
I really want a quality venue for real metal that's not in Worcester and run by mASSconcerts.

Go to whichever show you want, but get your facts straight.

Then be fucking honest, or maybe you forget the thread where you used my name to make your argument. Unless Megan changed her name to Joe, if so I apologize.

Anyways, I am not making myself out to be a victim, I am just saying how things are with some people, and addressing their replies in this thread, which is why my reply is here you fucking faggot. Stop trying to make believe I am somehow trying to attack Jonah or his show.

adolf satan can get shows easily wherever

Yeah, maybe at dumps with shitty sound like O'Briens. It took a lot of talking to get this show at a real club with a real PA. The Middle East has had a lot of problems with metal shows in the past and metal was all but banned from there for a few years. It's only because Shred took over the booking that metal is getting another chance there. I had to agree to let him hire an extra bouncer in order to have this show there.
Shows at the BCCA have been mostly emo/screamo type stuff.
I really want a quality venue for real metal that's not in Worcester and run by mASSconcerts.

Go to whichever show you want, but get your facts straight.

sorry for that error; it just seems to me like adolf satan has an easier time than a lot of bands around here, since i see the name on a lot of bills and hear a lot of people talk about the band. granted it's hard for almost any band in any metal genre to get shows, it just appears to me that some have more efficiency than others in that area. and as far as the middle east goes, i say they're doing well because compared to a lot of other venues around here, they're the better venue. shitloads of places have a tough time with metal, and most of those places never have metal shows again or just close down. luckily the middle east has shred, so metal can continue to thrive at places like the middle east. in my book, i'd say the middle east is doing well. the bcca may have shows that you don't like, but it's still a venue that shouldn't go down the shitter for that reason only. and keep in mind, jonah said he'd be staff there if it stays in business...i know jonah, and jonah likes metal. just because there are a lot of 'emo/screamo' shows there doesn't mean it's going to stay that way.

anyway, it doesn't matter how much arguing/bitching takes place in this thread. people who want to go see psyopus will see psyopus, and people who want to see watchmaker and adolf satan will go to see them. it's not like a bunch of kids are going to say "fuck watchmaker and adolf satan because they're not having a benefit show" that were originally planning to go to the middle east. so as far as i'm concerned, i'm done with arguing here because there is absolutely no fucking point.

Im not really sure what emo/screamo this dude is talking about. The only "screamo" band i've ever booked there is prolly off minor. other then that its all been bands like Ed Gein, Kylesa, and Draw blood.

not that I'm against emo/screamo, but thats kind of the point. ANY genre of music is welcome at this venue. Tonight an acoustic anarchist punk band is playing along side an indie rock band and a hardcore band. sunday is pretty fucking metal, with some hardcore thrown in. Art spaces dont have the booking limitations clubs do.

PsyOpus had to cancel the rest of the shows on there tour. Apparently they got really sick and had to go home and see doctors.

I've been scrambling to try and find a replacement but its just too short notice for all the big bands I know. For the love of fucking god PLEASE come to this show anyway. Support all ages.
