So, the practice space that Terminally Your Aborted Ghost/They Won't Stay Dead occupy in Allston is extremely expensive, small and not 100% sanitary/safe. We're trying to keep everyone happy with a safe medium of cost efficiency, travel and distance, so that's where you come in.

If any of you know of any practice spaces in or around boston and the south shore, PLEASE contact me ASAP. We need to find a new place to practice by the end of the month or we're all going to be hundreds of dollars in debt.

Preferably:
-Low cost
-Decent size room (we have the same drummer, so we really don't need a humungous room)
-Either T or Commuter Rail access within a few miles
-Not sketchy as hell
-Flexible playing hours (24 hours or overnight is best)

As for a van...Terminally Your Aborted Ghost will be touring for an undetermined amount of time this summer, and we need a van. We're all broke at the moment but we'll be working full time for the most part once late May arrives, so nothing too too fancy will be needed.

We're looking for something that will fit the 5 of us plus 2 4x12 speaker enclosures, 2 standard size guitar heads, a large bass amp almost the size of a 4x12, 5 guitars/basses, 7 piece drumset (2 small rototoms, 2 mounted toms, floor tom, bass drum, snare) with 5 or 6 cymbals and hardware, random accessories, at least one large merchandise bin, and some extra room for personal belongings. i suppose something along the lines of a ford econoline, dodge ram or a full size gmc/chevy van would be great. If any of you are selling a van or know of a van being sold, it would be greatly appreciated for you to let me or another member of Terminally Your Aborted Ghost know (niccolai, tyagxgrind, alisterfiend).

Thank you for your time,
Mark Fucking Richards

are you at the sound museum in allston next to o'briens or the one more towards brighton?

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Apr 13,2005 6:53pm
i'm pretty sure it's towards brighton; i think i've heard it called the sound museum before though. i'm so uneducated, haha. it's on north beacon street across from the tin tin buffet, that's all i can tell ya

toggletoggle post by PatMeebles at Apr 13,2005 6:56pm
There's practice spaces on Boylston Street behind the Domino's and right next to D'Angelo's. The one next to D'Angelos houses Cryptic Warning and Random Acts of Violence. The one behind Domino's houses 26 Beers and Stray Bullets (for anyone that likes ska... hehe... errr)

any info on cost?? that'd be perfect if it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. the place we're at right now is like 10x18 or something like that and costs over 400 bucks a month. we can't afford that much money for such a small space. let me know if you have any details

toggletoggle post by PatMeebles at Apr 13,2005 7:00pm
Hmmmm. Maybe I can take pictures soon. Also, is that 400 PER BAND or 400 total??

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Apr 13,2005 7:03pm
450 total actually

a buddy of mine has been in talks to open a new one with a big shot benefactor guy. i'll keep you in mind when they ask if a new clean space is in demand.

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Apr 13,2005 7:07pm
that'd be awesome hooker. you're a champ

toggletoggle post by PatMeebles at Apr 13,2005 7:07pm
I've been informed that the entire space that my friends in 26 Beers use with 2 full sets of equipment and room for chairs comes out to 360. Or something like that.

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Apr 13,2005 7:09pm
360 isn't too bad.

there's a place we've got at the top of our list that's only 200 bucks a month for about the same size as the space we have now. only problem is the distance for They Won't Stay Dead.

toggletoggle post by PatMeebles at Apr 13,2005 7:10pm
Ah. Well, this spot you can walk to from Kenmore Square in 10 minutes or from the Fenway stop on the D line in 5.

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Apr 13,2005 7:18pm
awesome

Yes, I would say so.

I've been in the other sound museum next to O'Briens. i think it's a little cleaner. same owner though so probably costs about as much.

$360 is only slightly more then 10$ a month less per person. plus we would haveto pay first month, we'd be at a big loss for a while paying off where we are now and than paying 360 to move in to that place.

Check out Music Gym at http://musicgym.com/ That's the cheapest place i ever heard of. it's $45 membership a person 5 hours a week, pay extra and get more time.

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Apr 14,2005 5:22pm
thanks for the info berzerker, but i think the music gym doesn't sound like what we're looking for...is it one of those places that just has a few rooms and all the bands there share the same shit?

for the van, id go with a dodge with a 318. they are tanks and dont die. GM would be my 2nd choice, but stay away from fords and the 30douche as ford stands for found on road dead, and fix or repair daily

rivers edge in haverhill mass shroud of bereavement has been there for 5 years or so. good prices, high security, not bad, i have never had a prob. we pay 330 for a 25 by 25 room with 12 foot celings. elevator access 24 hours.

26 beers is great. I heard the sound muesem is good any links to their website or how to contact someone to get a room because we are looking to move from our space also

sky dive off my brother's tits and ill give you a van and a space

toggletoggle post by Scoracrasia   at Apr 15,2005 10:14pm
To bad you couldn't practice where the Scoracrasia practices will be on the Cape. Full basement and Mike, the drummer probably wouldn't charge much at all.

Kevorkian's Angels, CWAF and the Gunmen, and occasionally Adolf Satan practice in a 40$ a week garage. We have no bathroom, just a bottle or walk outside into the woods, we use a propane heater in the winter and sweat our balls off in the summer. I'd love to be in a real space, but we're all poor bastards.
There's something about a garage that is just better though. Maybe it's the dank odor. Yeah, it's the dank odor

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Apr 16,2005 1:26am
good luck with your quest. no one has a basement you can practice in?

heh, stupid point, but yeah you need a van for touring...your list of what you need to put in the van is pretty self explanatory!

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards live from texas at Apr 18,2005 7:43pm
don't worry human bone...the last thing i would do is willingly buy/accept a ford. someone would have to pay me to use a ford as my main mode of transportation.

sadly, there is no basement we can use, or garage. haverhill is too far for most of the band, but that's an awesome deal anyway dyingmuse.

i guess the quest is still on...i still have to check out that musicgym place.

bump.

Revised: $40/week garage that we can barely make payments on, and never on time. No bathroom... PLEASE piss outside (if there's a bottle of piss in the room Nick *WILL* trip over it, no matter where it is... or worse).

I think it's not so much the dank odor, as it is the fact that we don't have to take orders from some fuckin' dweeb who disapproves of drinking, pornography, and tripping burglar alarms when a certain somebody pulls out the MAINS fuse....

Has anyone actually checked out the music gym? Like my band is in DIRE need of a place to jam, and I want to know if it's worth it cause we are going to be fucked if we don't have a place to jam. Our drummer's mother kicked us out of her house cause she can't stand our music.

mark I'm about to email you some info on a space for october. rock.

Mark, Is priority out of the question? I'm losing my roommate next week and could use someone to split the rent with. $45 a week for you guys, I pay the other $45 myself. What nights do you practice? I have the humungous room upstairs that Breedinground was in once upon a time. Drum riser, AC, storage room, etc.. plus I'm in the process of building a recording studio in there, so eventually you'll have access to discount recording as well.

I know you've been in Priority before, but trust me, for some reason things are different when you're in a room with me. I think Luke cuts me slack since I've been up there for 11 years.

I found our new van on cars.com
craigslist.org is a good place to look too
Make sure you check out the blue book value on http://www.kbb.com/
You might want to run a title search also
A couple more pieces of advice - Don't buy the first thing that comes along without comparing it with others! Test drive it on the road and on the highway! Look for rust spots that have been painted over or parts of the body that might not have come with the original vehicle. Ask the person selling it why they are getting rid of it and what kind of repair work was done to it. Any transmission problems? If it's burning oil that's a sign of a bad transmission. Original engine? What did the person use it for? Does it have a lot of miles on it? Are they highway miles (best for a car) but if so were they stuck in traffic a lot (worst for a car) Was it maintained well? Was the oil regularly changed? Ask a ton of questions, if the van was taken care of the person will be glad to talk to you about all this. If they get an attitude they are probably hiding something.
Don't get anything bigger than you need! Extended vans are harder to park! Do your research! You'll be glad later. I fell in love with every single van I saw just because they were all SO spacious! But a lot of them had luxuries that we didn't need and definitely could not afford.
Also, find out how much the insurance will be before you buy it!
We bought a cargo van instead of a passenger van so we don't have side windows which is good for security reasons but since it is a cargo van we have combo plates (commercial and residential) so if we park in a commercial spot in the city we won't get towed or get a ticket. BUT it was $230.00 to register it. Like I said, do the research and please feel free to contact me with any questions because I feel like I learned so much from this experience and I'd love to share that knowledge. HBBSI@yahoo.com

R.I.P. the garage.

We just got a space at the Sound Museum by Obriens.

thanks for the advice monika; luckily my dad's been a mechanic since he was like 6 years old, haha, so he'll come with me whenever we do get to buy our own van.

hooker, i got your email and i will get in touch with your friend in a few minutes.

chris from shit fuck: if i am correct, you work or worked at best buy in shopper's world...i've talked to you a few times in there. anywho, if my band doesn't find another band to share a space with, would you be willing to practice in boston in the fenway area? email me whenever you can: meamogre18@hotmail.com or tyagbooking@comcast.net

pete...i'm pretty sure priority is out of the question. i wouldn't mind doing it, but the other guitarist is from framingham and the drummer is from salem, so i guess we'll be staying in boston unfortunately. i'll talk to everyone just in case though, cuz 45 a week is nothin

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Aug 25,2005 2:40pm
being a mechanic seems like tough shit...i never learned that much even though my dad's always working on something. i guess i picked up on bad words too much as a young'n hanging out in the garage with him, so my mom decided i was better off away from the garage, hahaha

toggletoggle post by MonikaHBBSI at Aug 25,2005 2:52pm
I want to be able to look under the hood of a car and not get that same feeling as when I hear a foreign language being spoken. I want to understand. It would be nice to have that knowlege when you're on tour, broke and on a schedule in case something happens. I change my own oil, oil filters, air filters, tires; the regular maintenance stuff I got down but starters, transmissions, and everything else I'm clueless about. Oh, well, it's just like everything else, you learn by doing.

Oh, yeah, I wanted to tell you we ended up buying a 1989 GMC Vandura. We took it for it's first trip last weekend to the Departed band space in RI. That was the test and it did great! We're going to paint it sparkly gold when we can afford it!

toggletoggle post by ArrowHead nli at Aug 25,2005 2:54pm
Mark: Pillory splits a room with burn in silence and goratory in allston. I rent that space in priority alone now. I'm paying rent on two spaces, which is retarded. If you saw a much larger room that could house 3 kits (darrens, your drummers, and mine) I could consolidate. We could probably work something out that would be cheap for everyone. I'd probably do my stuff the same nights I'm up for Pillory practice, and goratory doesn't practice right now, so we could definately work out a schedule. Especially with BIS and your own bands touring.

Only problem is finding a huge room in boston.

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Aug 25,2005 2:56pm
holy shit, i was gonna get the same exact gmc model for us through my old job, but it sold in like 2 days. it only had 49,500 miles on it and was in mint condition. just needed 2 front tires and a new stereo. that thing was fucking mint.

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Aug 25,2005 2:59pm
i'll see what i can find pete and let you know if anything turns up. we just left the sound museum and hope to never ever ever go back, haha. the guy who runs that place is a dick. i did a shiiiitload of work for his band 'bentmen' a few years ago and never got a single thank you or any kind words. now he's trying to sell some PA equipment left there even though we were told it was only being held until 1 person not even in TYAG put money up front. too many rats, roaches and crappy hippy rock bands there too. anywho, that was a senseless rant but it was fun.

toggletoggle post by MonikaHBBSI at Aug 25,2005 3:06pm
What year was it? Ours is so old that it only has enough spaces to show something like 40,000 but it's really 140,000 there is just no room to read the extra 100,000 miles!

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Aug 25,2005 3:25pm
it was a 1989, same as yours.

toggletoggle post by MonikaHBBSI at Aug 25,2005 3:28pm
Weird. Are you sure that it only had 49,500 miles on it?

toggletoggle post by mark fucking richards at Aug 25,2005 3:31pm
i'm fairly sure. maybe it was 43000 or something; all i know is that some old couple from either alabama or georgia moved to new england and had no use for the van that they bought when it was brand new for only a handful of road trips. it was dark blue and tan

toggletoggle post by MonikaHBBSI at Aug 25,2005 3:34pm
