The fact is, local shows do suck. Here is why:

Most local bands are just awful. Thats what it comes down to. If bands are amazing, they'll get recognized for it if they play out enough. But most bands are not amazing. Most bands care about everything but the actual song they're playing. I walk into shows and hear the first band and go...this is just terrible. I'll be sitting there going DIE!!! The entire time they play. Their parents buy them Dual/Triple Rectumfriers and then they go and buy a cheap shitty Ibanez off the Bottom rack of Daddy's Junky Music and immediately start writting generic nu-metal riffs. Then they'll start forming bands and getting shows where they'll bring about 10-20 people who don't like metal at all and just stare at you when you play.

Then there are the people who have the most god awful taste in the world and think it's amazing. There is just no helping these people.

Then there are the "uber" heavy bands that pride themselves on that...and that alone. Instead of writing good music. Nope, lets just make a cloud of noise with someone yelling on top of it. Either that or take 30 minutes setting up just to play for 15. Or set up a bunch of TVs and lights on stage. And when the lights go on just start yelling.


So the truth is local shows do suck. And guess what, it's the bands faults.


So Chris, how do we fix this? Whats the solution?

I'm glad you asked 'cause I'm not usually one to sit here and bitch without giving a solution. It's simple:

Eliminate bad music. Put YOUR band on a show with shitty bands and just blow them out of the water. Turn some heads. Then get on some shows with good bands and give people a good night. Make people start talking about you. Thats how you put on a good fucking show. Be a fucking entrepenuer when it comes to putting on shows. Do something innovative or different, or something that just makes people want more. Do what you like and make other people like it.

Either that or log onto http://returntothepit.com and start complaining about why no one cares about shows anymore because of the surpluss of GOD AWFUL BANDS IN THE UNITED STATES!!!!!!!

I should note that I only said this site because of the fact that it's the most awesome site ever. But anyone who says that they have an idea as to why local shows suck...they're probably right as well. I'm just putting it in simple terms to that everyone understands that bands today...suck...more so than ever before

no, you're obviously going to the wrong shows then...there a lot of fucking bands in this area that are awesome

I know there are a lot of good bands in the area. I've played with a lot of them...but for every good band there are 3 shitty ones. Thats just how it goes.

i like it when at hardcore shows, since all the songs are so similar - that people forget when the singalongs are and come in thirty seconds too early or late

i don't really think local shows suck that much these days...depending on what area is "local" to you i guess. i'd say "local" shows were at their worst 2 or 3 years ago, when no one showed up or gave a shit unless you have at least 2 breakdowns in every song.
