ok,i record direct and i don't feel like arguing about it,that's just how i roll,over the last 6 years i have tried everything flaming digitech,pod,line6 piece of shit you can name,and i have spent about $3000 looking for "the sound" that always eluded me, i am now the proud owner of a boss mt2"metal zone 2" for $100 i got the best sound i have ever heard direct! and there isn't 8999888848488884940 million buttons and flashing lights,it's just a friggin pedal,so simple and so good, i highly recommend this to anyone who is trying to record direct,i imagine it sounds even better through an amp{if you have a lot of sympathy for those people}

The metal zone is a bit to sensative when shaping and only like 1 or two settings sound good. It's a bit easier to work with when you have an eq pedal with it.

I always prefer amp distortion.

toggletoggle post by anonymous at Apr 17,2006 8:03pm
are we talking about the same pedal here? this a newer one,a remake of the classic and it has a parametric(kind of) eq on it...

yes. That's the one.

If you absolutely hate the sound of your mids, get one...it sucks em right on out.

toggletoggle post by whiskey_weed_and_women  at Apr 17,2006 8:12pm
i dont mind that pedal, but samica (hail the leaf) lives and dies by it.

I guess I'll never trust a distortion or overdrive pedal outside of a Tube Screamer

yes that's it! i can't believe anyone wouldn't love it,it is extremely sensitive and you can cover the whole range with it especially mids,,maybe it sucks through an amp but i have it plugged straight into my computer and i have never heard better

hahah that's funny one of my first ideas was to fire a tube screamer behind it if it sucked but it's great without it

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Apr 17,2006 9:33pm
I guess if I was ever recording direct I'd just want to get a POD. I dunno, I'm a sucker for tube amp distortion...and tube screamers are a good boost pedal

anyone that would swear by direct clearly has absolutely no god damn clue how a good recording is made.

distinction, warmth, and tone are what makes your record what it is

that's the truth of the matter. A crispy, emotionless tone just impresses your college/high school buddies but won't sell an album

anyway, I think you could get a good direct sound but swearing by it like you do is g4y 2 th3 m4x

it's not what I know, dear friend, it's what all the great producers and engineers of all time know

I heard Led Zeppelin, Sabbath, The Who, Hendrix, The Rolling Stones all recorded direct with a metal zone, too.

this clearly comes down to a matter of taste.

Person who doesn't like the metal zone likes a natural "live" sound

Person who likes the metal zone likes the dry "studio" sound

Person who supports midgetry should be ashamed

taste or maybe even necessitty,in my situation direct is the only way to go,i would love to have 48 marshall fullstacks in my living room turned up to 11 but that just isn't practical, and if i was trying to sell albums i wouldn't record them myself to begin with, for me it's a hobby, something i've always done and enjoyed, and to finally find a pedal{and such a simple one} that can give me real close to the sound i've always wanted makes me very happy, hopefully someone else who is trying to get a good direct sound will read this and save themselves the trouble i went through buying other stuff

I hear you. But I have a hard time grasping that you can't get a better tone and more tones at the end of the day with a POD.

It shouldn't have turned into a pissing match, but this is a messageboard...so yes it should have.

or you can go buy a old Peavey Ultra 100 Vac Tube head, that had no mids at all either, and every hardcore band in the Merrimack Valley area had at least 1 in their band back when I was in highschool.
