Is it any good? Do you actually have a fair number of metal (not metalcore, but metal) bands? In my area, we're lucky in that we have alot of really talented people, but not many bands who are truely metal. Any noteable bands coming from Boston these days?

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Sep 21,2003 2:01pm
Yes. Sometimes.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 21,2003 2:05pm
let's get one thing straight.
are we talking about tree here?

toggletoggle post by joostin at Sep 21,2003 2:23pm
the current big boys of this board who i think have the most talent are
Ascendency(fast paced death metal)
and
Terminally Your Aborted Ghost(technical deathgrind)

and of course MA is home to the spawn of many many a "metalcore" band as you probably saw in Fall River and unfortunately, if you read back in this messageboard, there seems to be a small war going on between all the metal loving kids(which sucks).
Though from what i've heard, a lot of new bands are going to be comming around soon that have a lot more of a european metal sound.

mass is so board... you got a lot of different sounds.
here's the stereotypes and like all stereo types, they are totally untrue.

southshore: tough guy hardcore with some deathgrind

new bedford: gothenburg influence melodic metal

northshore: hardcore

north of 495, east of rt 3: metalcore

boston: weird mix of everything. a lot punx and a lot of dirty bands.

worcester: random metal bands and hardcore

west of 495: CT influenced hardcore

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Sep 21,2003 2:37pm
Randolph: rap, hip-hop, rap, hip-hop, rap, hip-hop, reggae, rap, hip-hop, funk-rap-hip-hop rap, rap, hip-hop, Ascendancy.

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Sep 21,2003 2:54pm
Wow, what a crazy coincidence, since one person saying "white power" once will be enough for a search engine to find it, and such things have been discussed (and thoroughlly bashed) on this site many times. Amazing. Wow. He really got us.

Onion bursts are people.

Why were you searching for "white power" anyway?

toggletoggle post by DeOdiumMortis  at Sep 21,2003 4:29pm
I just search on google for white power with and without quotes. Through ten pages of results on each there was not a sign of RttP.

Bluff has been called. Silly kids.

Ascendancy, i guess we're pretty good. sometimes. thanks for the acknowledgment my friend

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Sep 21,2003 7:08pm
i like ascendancy beause they're extremely talented, ridiculously fast, but their egos don't take up the entire club.

and they don't hand out flyers to kids in other bands outside their own shows that say

ASCENDANCY
& some other bands
PERFORMING TONIGHT!!!
TR00 METAL!
...Did I mention we know Beyond the Embrace!?!

ps. fuck metal.

Who are some other metal bands? Specifically, the european sounding ones. I'm curious to know who else is out there.

It seems as if you have alot more metal going on than our area. We have... not much at all. Quite a few metal-influenced bands, but it seems like everything is really somehow connected back to hardcore and I'm just tired of it. There are some bands and I'm sure that there are more who I don't know about, but... yeah. The biggest problem is that, like in your area, it seems that many of the metal kids are very interested in out-metaling eachother, which is a real shame.

In case I haven't plugged it enough, I drum for a band from Philadelphia called Kiriyama that played Fall River a week ago. http://www.mp3.com/kiriyama

shadows fall. oh. the band that makes me wanna puke in a hat and wear it

All the arguing around the NE "scene" makes me feel like Tina Turner and everyone else is Ike.

"I don't care who's wrong or right
I don't really wanna fight no more
Too much talking babe
Don't care now who's to blame
I don't really wanna fight no more
This is time for letting go"

to XOS: The two songs on mp3.com are really good. I really like the subtle synth lines especially. You've got a really cool looking logo too.
I'll go see you if I can next time you play in or around MA.

toggletoggle post by xos   at Sep 22,2003 12:02am edited Sep 22,2003 12:02am
Thanks to everyone who likes what we're doing. If anyone is doing any shows and wants us to come out, let me know. We had a great time playing MA and as soon as we can afford to do it again, we'll be coming back up that way. It's only about 7 or 8 hours from us to Boston. Along the same lines, if any metal bands want to play the Philadelphia area, get in touch with me and I can see what I can do. (And I don't want to make myself out to be some self-appointed authority of Philadelphia metal, because I'm definitely not, I'm just opinionated and talk too much.)

toggletoggle post by Mike_STE at Sep 22,2003 1:48am
I live right in Boston, and there is no metal. It's either punk/crust, or your typical gay hxc.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Sep 22,2003 2:26am
yeah but we've got record store after record store stocked full of the entire PanterA catalogue all for $18.99 each.

who needs a scene when you've got the 101 Proof True Kings of American Metal in total digital clarity at the touch of a button?!

YOU TALKIN TA ME BOY? IM NOT HOME

There's no better place for metal than good ol' suburbia.

i like em', i use to be a huge overcast fan so the only thing i had left was shadows fall once phil left.

they play a pretty original style, minus a few riffs here and there. unlike most bands that try and play melodic stuff.

yeah, I love living in the city.

Phil was better off in Perpetual Doom (rip), instead of Shadows Fall / All That Remains.

I am the Frank Sinatra of the Boston metal scene.
from now on just direct all your questions to me via IM conversations.

toggletoggle post by Beakey   at Sep 22,2003 3:40pm
Considering my height and drug habbits, I will be the Dean Martin of the scene. Refer all prescription pain killers my way, thank you very much.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 22,2003 3:41pm
ok.. I'm starting to get the idea that we aren't talking about tree here anymore.

toggletoggle post by joe/notcommon   at Sep 22,2003 3:43pm
no we are not.
we are talking about control and cool

I'm surprised that this band hasn't been mentioned yet:

RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE

i'm surprised i didn't mention Ravage yet.
