I went there a week ago to try and pick up a specific left handed guitar. After about a 45 minute wait for a specific sales person (whom nobody could seem to find and being bounced between sales persons) I was finally greeted by the person who could help me to make a special order. After a bit of hassle this person then went to research the product I was looking for which ended up taking about another 40 minutes or so. But being the patient person I am , I proceed to browse around and make the most of my wait. During this time a fruitcake with a Rod Stewart haircut who happens to be the Asst. Sales Manager makes a comment in a rather snide tone along the lines of “why don’t you just get a right and flip the strings”. To which I replied. I’ve been doing that for years. I’m a bit sick of hitting gnobs and such Also I’m thinkin’ why should I have to do that when I can just buy a lefty?!?! What a prick. Great sales pitch right? So, finally the guy handling my order comes and okays the sale. I give 25% down for guitar. I get my receipt and off I go. I get a call a few days later from Guitar Center. It turns out the guitar was not available anymore . Whatever. So, after the phone call I get online to try and find the guitar I’m looking for which takes me all but five minutes mind you without the hassle and for only 8 dollars more. I make my purchase. Everything is cool.
So I go back down to Guitar Center to get my refund for the gutar they had such a “hard time finding” and I met yet again with more waiting. But only this time I’m sick with the flu and have a bit of a fever so my patience was wearing thin. Finally,I just wigged out and started to make my complaints be heard more publically and straight to the point with plenty of foul language. All the while the Asst Manager with the bad Rod Stewart cut that was supposed to be writing my check was off interviewing (or getting a BJ) from some curvacious tart who will perhaps join Guitar Centers “superb staff” in the near future was neglecting the two second job he was appointed. So, after having put my foot down (and looking like a total bad guy in the process) I finally get my fuckin’ refund.
The End.

Sorry about the novel but, I needed to vent that bit of frustration as to not take it out on my wifes face.

If it can be of help to anyone, especially South Paws or anyone who has found GC to be difficult in the past and want to obtain a product without a lot of bullshit or perhaps you just hate the public domain as much as I do..... I suggest trying http://www.music123.com (where I ordered my guitfiddle) or Zzounds.com.

In my opinion Daddy’s Junky Music blows the doors off Guitar Center anyday.

Oh, and I don’t have a wife.
;-)

well, I'm sick as fuck so more Alka Seltzer for me and back to bed I go.

allright before anyone flips out on maine cunt for being fucking annoying and making 2 posts for no reason which im sure will happen.......

ive had 3 experiences with guitar center. the first was great. i bought a line 6 head and put it on layaway. was an awesome experience because the guy was actually pretty cool and knew what he was talking about. then another time i was asking about EMG pickups and if they could get a guitar with an 81 and 85 in it and some douchebag phish fanboy kept pointing out guitars with the EMG HZ pickups in em. i kept saying "no those arent the ones either" and he replied all smugly "well it says EMG on them, theyre the same thing." So i told him to find someone who actually knew about guitars and the guy flipped on me. Then another time i tried returning an effect pedal and was given a huge hassle. I figure the effect pedal incident was their second chance. fuck them.

I've always shopped at daddys and local mom and pop shops and never have problems. I guess i was drawn in by GCs prices but they aren't worth the hassle.

In my opinion, Daddy's Junky Music just blows. But GC isn't exactly better either. Guitar Center does seem to be staffed by people who would be better off flipping burgers. I've been told about stuff that's been discontinuted that I knew for a fact wasn't. I've asked questions many times only to get dumb answers like "Did you make sure it was turned on?"

The best thing to do is buy from your local shops. Keep the money away from the big chains.

I've applied to both guitar centers in my area multiple times while they were looking for work.

But I'm not a 17 year old scene girl so I didn't get the job any of the times.

Not hiring me is one of the biggest mistakes guitar center has made.

I have NO idea how they stay in buisiness.

Oh wait, it's because every other music store in the world is just as bad and is run by equally shitty people, even the small non corporations.

toggletoggle post by blackmetallady at Dec 10,2006 4:05am
Fuck them.... you deserve better. I was going to purchase a PA there, but I've decided not to give them the buisness. I'm now looking for a decent PA so I don't have to deal with bullshit venues that don't allow moshing.

i will always love going into guitar center to fuck around with stuff since they're the only big chain (as far as i know) that has a large quantity of stuff i want to check out. if i make any purchase at guitar center aside from strings, picks, cords and other small accessories, i make sure i have a friend that works there, or i make friends with the people there who aren't retards. a dude in the boston store years ago became my friend and got me shitloads of deals on everything i ever bought there, and told me what not to trust, which other stores i should go to (that weren't guitar center), etc. otherwise, guitar center yields a very disappointing experience.

I fucking hate music stores. They're full of either washed up "hasbeen's who never were" talking about their cover band's Friday night "gigs" or 18 yr old kids talking about their pop punk bands or assholes getting mad at me for breaking all my guitars (sorry, I actually use them a lot).

All music stores are horrible. And if you're lucky enough to find one that has a cool employee, they usually only work there for a few months because they have lives or just realize that they're constantly surrounded by fuckheads. The part that really sucks is that there's nothing we can do about it. We HAVE to go to these places. All you can do is put your head down, shove $$ in someone's face, take what you need, and get the hell out.

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Dec 10,2006 5:43pm
my thing with daddy's is that it seems that the staff has something up their ass... if i went in there and wanted to play a guitar that is over $1000 they laugh because i do not have enough money to purchace the instrument... where as guitar center you ask them if you could play a PRS and they just hand it to you and set you up on the amp.. thats it.

i was in the guitar center in danvers today i asked a question about a head to see how much it cost and the girl was very helpful she looked around for about 15 minutes to see if they had it in stock... though i do agree some of their workers are useless but i must say the manager for the guitars at the guitar center in danvers and cut me a deal on my last guitar and amp that i have got there.

You try making a sale with a custy or trying to take a phone call with some fuck 3 inches away from you attempting to do blast beats...

GO HOME and play your drums...come to guitar center with an idea as to what you want to BUY in mind and BUY IT. Then go home and annoy mom and dad from the basement.

You wanna know another music shop that sucks? South Shore Music. I dropped a bass off to get the intunation adjusted. I gave them a week to do it, and told them I absolutely 100% needed it by friday because I was leaving for a show in Pennsylvania that night. I called them Friday afternoon and asked if it was ready, and they said yes.

I get there, show them my slip, and tell them I'm here for my bass, and they look at me like a bass is something I just made up on the spot. It took a solid couple of minutes for them to even realize what I was there for, and then I see them scrambling around with my bass out back. I ask what's going on, and they tell me that their repair guy never came in that day, and that they were going to do it right now. It took them a half hour to pull it off (and even put it in the wrong tuning). Meanwhile my singer is waiting out in the car, and we've got like 15 minutes to get to the van rental place before it closes.

THEN the 700 year old hippie owner comes sauntering out of the back room with my bass. I'm totally in a rush, and I've been waiting for like 40 minutes at this point. Rather than just packing it up, and ringing up my order this fucking guy plugs my bass into a display amp and starts jamming out while he lectures me. "Ya know *jazzy bass lead* the neck on this is bowed and it probably won't *more stupid jazz bass* play as well as it could *do do dodo ddodo* I really think we should..."

I try to explain to this idiot that it's not my bass, it's a peice of shit anyways, and all I care about is getting through this one show. The guy just keeps jamming out on my bass in front of me for 10 minutes telling me that he wants to do 8 billion dollars worth of repairs on a $200 bass. Up theirs.

I don't like so much these music stories, but by the grace of MetAllah I was blessed with onegood expieranncess at guitar centers

I had a bass amp and it was fucked, sound would always cut for no reason, and often it would go hissy. I had a warranty so I brought it there, they took it and fixed it, even though my warranty for the part was three years out of date.

I thought it was cool of them to still ship it out and fix it for free for me.

an embarassing moment at daddy's I have a bass that uses a 9 volt battery, and at the time I didn't know it used a battery, the battery died, so I brought the bass in to see what was wrong, the music experts there couldn't figure it out either so they sent it to some place to get fixed. I get it back a month later with a note on the paper from the place it was fixed : "it's battery was dead silly, signed: kat"

I laughed.

MetAllah above all

two words. craigslist. or ebay for electronics.
GC is nice to go try stuff out and then look for things elsewhere.
Which store did you have a problem with?
I go to the one in Danvers and people there are helpful and a few really know a lot about instruments, amps, etc. I just have a problem with thier prices. But a couple of them actually told me to look on craigslist or whatever for certain things. so I would recommend the one in Danvers, MA.
besides, the singer from a GnR tribute band greets you at the door!

also, can you really blame the Rod Stewart guy for not paying attention to you when he's trying to score with a hot chick?

The guitar I ordered thursday night came via FedExcrement around 11am this morning.
www.Music123.com is the balls!

BTW, I'm really impressed with this axe.
I just wanted a middle of the road no frills rock guitar so, after alot of research I opted for the Gibson SG Faded Special (w/brown transparent finish). I must admit, when it came out of the box it played like a $50 dollar Sears acoustic.... But, after I set the intonation and adjusted the bridge and neck I realized I got a lot more than I bargained for. I can get a great grimmy rock sound and a surprisingly good brutal "chugga chugga wee" sound with no problem. It's a pretty versitile guitar which is great. Also, wasn't quite sure how I would handle the vintage round neck after being spoiled by guitars with modern sleak necks but it really isn't a problem at all.
I can see why alot of people like the SG and Gibsons in general.

toggletoggle post by Lamp  at Dec 11,2006 9:11pm

i used to go to the daddy's in dartmouth, ma, on my breaks from school and no one seemed to know what they were doing. i sold a cab there that was listed as only $105 in the blue book or whatever. i told them guitar center offered $150 so they were like "oh don't tell us that, they're our competition!"....no shit...so i told them i was going to take it to GC, and the dude was like "ok well how about we give you $165" and it was a done deal. little did they know, one of the speakers was blown and another was on its way. dumbasses.

They are supposed to fix the neck bow before setting the intonation, otherwise it won't intonate.

not to mention, if they intonated it for the wrong tuning, it wasn't intonated it when you tuned it correctly. I would have not paid for their services and forced thm to make me free spaghetti for the rest of my life.
