Derek Roddy Named As Next Today Is The Day Drummer

Today Is The Day frontman Steve Austin proudly announces the next
Today Is The Day drummer:

Derek Roddy.

Derek Roddy is renowned by musicians and music fans worldwide for
pushing the art of drumming to new heights. Best known for his work
with Death Metal bands such as Hate Eternal, Nile, and Malevolent
Creation, Roddy's astonishing speed and finesse have won him
international acclaim. He currently endorses Sonor Drums, Sabian
Cymbals, Axis Pedals, Remo Heads, and Vater Sticks.

Roddy joins a long legacy of great drummers to occupy the Today Is The
Day drum throne, including such heavyweights as Brad Elrod (the band's
wildly unique original drummer), Brann Dailor (who would go on to form
Mastodon), and Marshall Kilpatrick (currently of The Esoteric).

Roddy will make his Today Is The Day recording debut on the band's
eighth studio album, "Axis Of Eden". Recording is planned for
February 2007 at Steve Austin's own studio, Austin Enterprise, in
Nashville, TN. "Axis Of Eden" will be released on Austin's own label,
SuperNova Records, later in the year.

Steve Austin and bassist Chris Debari are two of my favorite people from my Skate The Planet days. I mourn that I hardly see either of them.

he left Hate Eternal because he was broke
so he joins a band thats gonna make even less money than hate eternal does....makes perfect sense

Headline: Derick Roddy named new replacement for Derick Roddy

Last I heard Steve Austin owned a tattoo shop in Clinton, Mass and ran his recording studio nearby. That was a few years ago though, who knows.

How do you know which band makes more money?

toggletoggle post by mOe @ work at Dec 15,2006 3:22pm
umm, logic
how often does TITD tour?
how often does HE tour and what size tours does HE get when they tour...anyone whos anyway knows that bands like those two make their money on the road if they make it at all
odds are he'll just record

umm, TITD, when they have a stable lineup, tour a fuckload. How long was Gillis in TITAD? A year maybe? During that year he toured the states twice plus Europe, plus Japan. And they usually tour on their own. HE is usually an opening act on a package tour and you make just enough to survive touring like that.
I would bet that TITD outdraws HE too. Steve has some serious hardcore fucking fans. HE is just another death metal band.

hey hey... play nice now

anyways... i think what made him broke was the touring. having to pay for even a portion of a european tour is expensive... i believe he said that when he got the royalty check at the end of the year and it read like 600 bucks... thats when he knew it was time. i mean... a man of that talent should be making that much PER SHOW playing for people like Malmsteen or like... pop groups or whatever. session musicians usually make more than "regular" band members anyway.

toggletoggle post by mOe @ work at Dec 15,2006 4:02pm
yea, thats why i'm taking theory at this college i work at now because its free and i wanna do session work when i get old...in like 5 years haha

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Dec 15,2006 4:12pm
They had to pay for their own Europe tour? Seriously?? It actually cost them money to go over there?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Dec 15,2006 4:16pm
well im not sure about specifics... i just remember reading his official statement saying that he had to pay out of his own pocket for touring... what tours exactly? no idea... i was just stating that having to pay for even like 3% of a european tour would be expensive.

He bought a house in Nashville. He finished moving there around the end of October beginning of November.

toggletoggle post by Josh_Martin at Dec 15,2006 4:31pm
It just cracks me up everytime I read about some "serious" band that makes waaay less money than AC does.

Moe, you are just plain wrong.
CWAF and KA will be back next year. Hey Josh, we're finally covering something from the first Brutal Truth album!

This is going to be very good, I have a strong feeling.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Dec 15,2006 11:48pm
Isn't this guy in a bunch of projects, or is he just exclusive now with TiTD. Either way, he's a great drummer and hopefully he'll help Steve achieve what he's after. Didn't realize he had moved back to TN.

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at Dec 16,2006 12:06am
I think you might be thinking of Kevin Talley.

toggletoggle post by DrinkHardThrashHard  at Dec 16,2006 12:14am
Nah I thought Roddy was in a bunch too. I guess they were all at different times.

toggletoggle post by ConquerTheBaphomet  at Dec 16,2006 12:55am
Yea, you're right. They are very much in demand as far as studio drummers.

toggletoggle post by brownundies1  at Dec 17,2006 11:34am
derek roddy has bills to pay obviously.

I believe Sabian and Zildjian buy their blanks from the same company. So you should be saying Zildjian and Sabian are garbage (because its true), unless your endorsed then they're the best.

toggletoggle post by anthony at Dec 18,2006 2:24pm
I've heard a ton of great sounding Sabian and Zildjian cymbals.

first off i was talking about the cast series of zildjain vs. the cast series of sabian. that means we are talking, a customs, z customs and k customs, among others.
you think derek roddy uses cymbals that come from sheet?
give me a break dood!
+ i think you are highly mistaken when you say sabian and zildjian get their sheet metal from the same places.
thats just a wives tale.

take it from somone who knows first hand.
