No matter what search engine I try to go to (Google, Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista) my computer brings up royalsearch.net

Anyone ever get something like this before?

Rev?

Maybe even...ugh...fine...Rusted Angel?

hmmm sounds like some spyware crap self installed itself...i had a simliar problem months ago...

i think you should go to www.download.com and install "Ad-Aware"

then run the program...it will detect spyware and remove it...

it's a great program to run every once in a while on your PC in any case...

i'm trying to remember...if you need to do soemthing else..

also, go to tools->internet options and see what your start page is.

though, in this case.. it's a virus..
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.bootconf.html

VBS.Bootconf is a Trojan Horse that modifies the TCP/IP settings to point to a different address. It also changes the Internet Explorer home page and search page to connect to www.royalsearch.net.

VBS.Bootconf is written in Visual Basic Script.

I'm guessing it re-writes your hostname file
c:\windows\system32\hosts or hotsname something like that.

Aaron, can you re-word that in Beakey-talk?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Nov 17,2003 8:51am
you clicked on something you shouldn't.
it was most-likely attached to an e-mail.

run norton anti-virus.

toggletoggle post by Beakey   at Nov 17,2003 8:54am
I already ran Norton Anti-Virus and it referred me to you.
Thank you though.
Goddamn these computers.

I followed those instructions, Rev, three times (to the T) but it's still there. I guess it's a new virus so there's probably a few unknown details about it. Oh well.
If you hear anything, let me know.

toggletoggle post by succubus  at Nov 17,2003 10:45pm
hmmm see i remember a similar thing....it didn't work at first...and i was getting soo pissed....and in the end i did something else..that did it....
