SLAYER WINS FIRST-EVER GRAMMY AWARD

Los Angeles, CA -- February 11, 2007 -- Slayer, the undisputed kings of thrash/punk/metal have been awarded their first-ever Grammy Award. The track, "Eyes of the Insane," from the band's most recent album, "Christ Illusion," took the Grammy in the category of Best Metal Performance. Fellow category nominees included Lamb of God, Mastodon, Ministry and Stone Sour.

This was Slayer's second Grammy nomination, the first being in 2002 for the track "Disciple" (from "God Hates Us All"), also in the Best Metal Performance category.

Slayer, currently headlining a North American tour, did not attend the Grammy's presentation, but vocalist/bassist Tom Araya had this to say about the win from his hotel room in Columbus, OH: " Jeff [Hanneman] and I put a lot into 'Eyes of the Insane' so we're thrilled that the Grammy voters took the time to listen to it, and then vote for it. We're out here on the road and we're all really, really happy."

I got more enjoyment out of the Justin Timberlake performance (which was pretty damn good) than about them winning for that song.

Plus, I thought I caught a glimpse of Tom Araya accepting the award. Moments later, however, I realized I was looking at Stevie Wonder.

It's pretty sad that Slayer, my favorite band ever, wins an award for their worst song ever.

The undisputed kings of sucking after South of Heaven... just give them the award for any live track from anything SOH or before.

I agree. If "alot" were to mean boring, mediocre riffing and uninspired vocals.

What exactly are the qualifications for winning a grammy? Like, how exactly do they base their judgements in determining that a band deserves one? Seems to me like they just pick names out of a hat.

So they gave Slayer a grammy for one of their worst albums ever...idiots...where was the grammy nonimation when South Of Heaven, Seasons, etc came out? Lame, Mastodon's new album should've gotten it...oh wait, the grammies are a fucking joke, it all makes sense now...

Metal has officially jumped the shark.

I'm done listening to most of it.
