bury the needle: every time i see them, they play a similar high energy set. Doesnt matter how many people are there watching. When they started, it was all just familiar faces in the crowd. As they finished, maybe 1/3 of the sound out crowd was there. im surprised they are playing before hackman.
This whole place smells like farts. It usually smells like raw sewage so that's something different.
hackman: oh man! I was thinking of another band. This is the guy that used to run obriens, darrly. I didnt recognize him with glasses on. Then it hit me. They played all new songs (at least to me), but i guess some were more new than others. They played most their new stuff cause they have a new CD coming out. more people were here for them, but the room still looks empty so i did my best not to accentuate that.
deadbird: when a band says "this our last song" and they still have 20 minutes left to their set. That's either a really bad thing or a really good thing. In the case of these southern rockers, i would vote good thing. They filled the remaining time with a song that flew by.
Only Living Witness: time and place, time and place. These guys are from the long long ago time and the music completely falls in that pre-nu-metal heavy metal rock that you probably had to be there to get into. I was "there" in the age sense (though probably 1-2 years to young to have seen most of their show driving-wise). Even with years on not singing like that jonah is able to still nail it. Everyone up there seemed like they were absolutely raging on a natural high. I mean raging. The crowd was having the time of their lives (or the second time since this is the second reunion show), too. It took under 20 minutes for those raging old school metalheads to get the place hot enough for a bead of sweat to make it from my sholders to crack in one free fall. By 35 minutes into their set, that bead was now an ever flowing river of sweat. At that point, i decided to slink back and wait for the crowd to get massively disgusting before i shot more.
Some guy with out long hair had the urge to headbang with long hair so bad that he lifted a girl up in front of him to head bang for him. Also, the drummer stopped at one point and ate an apple? Wut? They ended the set with a cover, but then came back out apologizing that they didnt know any other songs... So they played their first song again, december. Good bye once again to boston.
There are 2 types of people mad about this show happening. The first are people that wanted to get in, but it was sold out. The other are ones who are pissed that the 13 yearold and faded OLW shirt is back and available for purchase.
show ruled wicked hard, olw was better this week I think, although they were amazing last week, the drummer seemed slightly less into it, but jonah and the guitarist did more jumping kick things than henry rollins on coke, they didnt play any covers last week so that was a plus for this show too, I talked to Jonah after the show and gave him some dvds from last week, super nice guy, I had never seen them before the reunion shows (I was 8 when they broke up...), but I was surprised how close to the cds they sounded, especially the singing, definitely one of my favorite bands ever
Deadbird was way better than I expected them to be, really sludgy doomy stuff, I will definitely check them out again if they ever come to my neck of the woods, I regret not taping their set, oh well
I missed the first two bands because I was walking around Harvard and the greater Cambridge area being a tourist and searching high and low for a chinese restaurant... we found out when we got back to the venue at 9:30 that there was one literally right next store... live and learn
