If "metal" could be used as a descriptive term, meaning something that finds beauty in the terrifying and violent, then this is the most metal music I've heard lately. It's not frilly and it's not frivolous. It is playful, witty, and musically adept, but even more than that, it's warlike. It accesses its sensitive side only through a sense of conquering the world and replacing confusion with an elegant, powerful, masculine order. It is excellently epic. It steps outside the individual, sees the grandeur of the world, and transcends itself.

It is Franz Schubert's "Unfinished Symphony," which is also the soundtrack to the Swedish cult occult film "Haxan."

Franz Schubert is excellent.

And here I thought this would be a thread about Shadows Fall.

I thought this thread was going to be about Crackdust, the African deathmetal band. That's some of the heaviest stuff I've heard in a while.

Shadows Fail

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at Aug 15,2008 11:27am
"Shadows Fall" was the name they picked back when they were a racist Oi band and wanted to use hip slang for darker people, "shadows," in a negative context. When they got the wisdom of the almighty buck, they elected not to change the name, because "it's kind of funny that no one knows what it meant."

I dunno if i would call shadows fall any form of "death metal" but whateva.

If you like Schubert i think you would also like these two composers works.

Dimitri Shostakovich
Bella Bartok

I can def appreciate some classical music, but the dynamics kill me. Live it works, but on a stereo u have to crank it and then whoah don't blow your speakers! They need to compress that shit like they do for pop music. SQUISH!!! Its impossible to listen to in the car on the highway.

It's hard to find enough quiet to listen to anything. But overly loud music overwhelms the senses...

Classical music is awesome. If doom metal was a classical composer, it'd probably be Ludovico Einaudi.

Just downloaded this. Really looking forward to listening to this when I get it chucked onto my mp3 player in the car.

I love classical. I really miss auditioning for and playing with the district & state-wide orchestras when I was in highschool. I would always dual-autition for snare drum and timpani. Fuck, I miss timpani.
