i definitely don't agree with that. i think the show is fucking retarded and does nothing but stand on the shoulders of the geniuses who paved the way for them. yes, i have laughed at it, i thought the movie was funny, but it wasn't because it had substance or offered anything smart. the show relies on shock and irrelevance for laughs. at least South Park has awesome writing and meaning.

dirtbag comedy is usually overlooked as being nothing but shock, but is usually actually very clever (eg. Family Guy, South Park, stand-up comics like Jim Norton and Artie Lange).

The random cut-away shit is very original.
the jokes are brilliant, the show is well written, and (unlike South Park) they don't fag out/copout by apologising with an "I've learned something today" at the end of every single episode

that would be funny not brilliant. mr show, simpsons,south park etc those shows have had brilliant moments. again family guy is funny, but no where near the level of above mentioned shows.

South Park is the farthest thing from a cop-out you'll ever see on tv. Half the time the "I learned..." is fucking ridiculous anyway. South Park will forever be my favorite show ever. SOUTH PARK is brilliant. Family Guy is re-hashed, repetitious, annoying-as-fuck, and on Fox.

I agree I think it is a staple of the show, but when it is as over used as it is on that show it is just fucking lazy.

if you watch the first two seasons, the cut aways weren't just a crutch to fill space, they were at least SOMEWHAT relevant, and they didn't come up every other line of dialogue. Now it's nothing but filler, and a whole lotta filler at that.

They pretty much fit every character FG could ever hope to reference into 3 episodes.

family guy is very original....re-using stupid culture references, is pretty funny....while the word-for-word rip-offs are unoriginal, the use of them is something no-one else ever did the way they did.

and all the original dialogue that the cut-aways are put in between is hysterical......nothing re-hashed or repetitious about it

but south park at least did it inside of a plot/story not out of being lazy and not knowing how to further a story like family guy does.

Family Guy is still pretty awesome. My main complaint is that I don't always like the musical parts but they can be funny too. South Park has only gotten better with age, the past few seasons have kicked ass.
