New site? Maybe some day.
when I get back home, I'm all over that |
so much goodness, its like blowing a load on a strippers face! |
I think I'm going to need another new harddrive. |
so this is like all bands from the late 80s/early 90's?? |
This blog has a million things I've been looking for. Fuck. Yes.
Oh yeah, thanks, I GUESS. |
so this is like all bands from the late 80s/early 90's?? |
No, a lot of it is bands that are new and active today.
A fair amount of these bands aren't powerviolence either, but modern bands playing early 80s styles (the Repos, Direct Control, Government Warning, Wasted Time, etc.) |
lamp sees right through jokes. |
its still an awesome fucking blog. technicalities aside |
glad I just bought that new 2TB drive... |
might as well use this blog to introduce myself to powerviolence. Which bands would people recommend? |
Yea this isn't PV this is all fastcore aka "hardcore for the punks" notable modern bands of this subgenre include coke bust, weekend nachos(kinda), punch, sick fix, black sheep squadron |
might as well use this blog to introduce myself to powerviolence. Which bands would people recommend? |
Well this blog seems to be mostley fastcore stuff but if you're looking for some PV bands I recommend are:
Anal Cunt
Charles Bronson
Agoraphobic Nosebleed
endless blockade
capitalist casualties
dropdead
deadstare
no comment
Yes some of these bands are also considered grindcore. PV and grindcore are pretty much go hand and hand and are for the most part the same thing imo the only difference being the different blasts used. |
THIS ISNT POWERVIOLENCE GUY. DON'T YOU KNOW WHO COINED THAT FUCKING TERM?
SM:9.9 |
Hellnation and all the slap a ham classics or..... well, you know. |
Yea this isn't PV this is all fastcore aka "hardcore for the punks" |
get the fuck outta here, eric wood. all your powerviolence are belong to eric wood!
fastcore and powerviolence are basically the same fucking thing. stop getting hung up on bullshit details no one really gives a fuck about.
PLAY FAST OR KILL YOURSELF! |
punch is soooo fucking good |
I could get into the differences between fastcore, powerviolence, and grind... but I won't. |
punch is soooo fucking good |
Going to see them again in Greensboro tomorrow night, should rule. |

doesnt make up for the fact that youre a genre nazi. and btw, anal cunt isnt powerviolence. so go fuck yourself, eric wood |
lol @ "fastcore" and anyone who considers anal cunt powerviolence. |
I honestly think it's refreshing that Lamp is a "genre nazi." Just shows that he knows his shit, and too many people abuse genre classifications in general these days.
Reimroc was the one who recommended AC, for the record. |
Seriously... if you don't have an opinion that's good for you but oh no I actually find fascination in the music I listen to, anything but that. |
genre classification is for nerds aka collectors...
lets make this easy....anal cunt is a hardcore band. cry all you want.
guess what, earth crisis and snapcase are hardcore too...
boo fucking hoo |
Genre classification is only useful in helping people find similar artists akin to their favorite bands and styles. Some genre labels get downright ridiculous and redundant. Fastcore? Come on... Is that a legitimate genre? That's like saying screamo is a real genre of music. I'm an enthusiast of a particular style of doom normally labeled "funeral", and I refuse to use that term on the basis that it sounds fucking gay. |
its one thing to be fascinated with the music you listen to, but its another to pick apart every little detail. so get off your high horse, fruit. |

It's called actually trying to get people interested in the music you listen to. If you pass it off as "more of the same" by saying all subgenres in one group are pretty much the same thing, who the hell's going to get excited by that?
"A BUNCH OF SHIT THAT ALL SOUNDS EXACTLY THE SAME!? I'M GOING TO GO DOWNLOAD IT RIGHT NOW!!!" |

Wow someone needs some midol. I was just giving the guy my explanation of things if you don't like it I will hug you I SWEAR! |
lol @ "fastcore" and anyone who considers anal cunt powerviolence. |
Last I checked they had some songs that fell under the category of powerviolence. |
I like that grind band the minor times. |
Last I checked I never heard that. Consider them whatever you want.
O))) on. |
lol lets get more raged that i called anal cunt powerviolence. lets call them hardcore like joey said or maybe grindcore like everyone else does who cares? everyone has their own opinion and classifications for the music they enjoy. yea i call the music in that blog fastcore because thats what i like to call it. deal with it dudes. nothing to get raged about.

How about PowerFastCoreViolence? |
I clicked on this thread when there were 2 replies. Hadn't been back.
But I sort of figured this would lead to some useless argument.
High-five RTTP. |

It happens. I pissed blue off in another thread by calling the network trap them with metalcore breakdowns. which of course is just my opinion but still raged the hell out of him. |

you aren't powersnuggies. I invented powersnuggies so I sould know. |
is that where you snuggie someone so hard that they either poop themselves or burst an eyeball? |
Anal Cunt is the best mockery of music in general there is. |
fine rev, we are east boston snuggieviolence |
if it's called power violence and people like it, is it still powerviolence? |
LOUIS CK IS NOT POWERVIOLENCE LOLWTFBBQ |

whenever I dl things from this in firefox, I get malware like crazy. |

I guess they're actual genre's for people who want to believe they're real. I'll never consider them legitimate genres, but no one should get red-assed over it. Call them whatever you want.
As for screamo, some kid leaping onto the floor and screaming for 10 seconds into the mic doesn't deserve its own sub-genre label. To me, it's just a lame punk derivative. |
didn't you just make fun or every song of nd's scum right there? |
Why, was Napalm Death "fastcore" too? ND was the first real incarnation of Grindcore. Detuned, sped up punk riffs, screamed/growled trade-off's, and blasting. Or wait, were they screamo? I'm sure Mick Harris would agree. |
"some kid leaping onto the floor and screaming for 10 seconds into the mic doesn't deserve its own sub-genre label" = scum. |
Hah, Rev you know exactly what I'm talking about since you been to a lot of those shows. I'm talking about that North Shore, NH epidemic where it was a bunch of hc kids with mod haircuts just doing what I described because they had no talent to do anything else. They got worshipped for their 15 minutes in the scene limelight. ND was violent and had a distinct sound. Those bands were just laughable. |
I am interested in hearing someone description of what "fastcore" actually is. To me, it's a redundant label, because it just sounds like you're trying to say Grindcore. That's like me saying I'm going to rip off old Darkthrone, image, sound, and all. Only we're not Black Metal, we're "Evil Metal". "Look! The emperor has new clothes!" |

Thrashcore (also known as fastcore[1])
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrashcore
"screamo."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screamo
Oh, I know what screamo is considered, and wiki's definition is in agreeance with mine. It's some emo/spastic style of punk, I've just refused to call it screamo. So fastcore is just another way of saying cross over, or thrashcore. I've never really heard that term used until about a week ago. So you could even call it speedcore if you wanted to? |
Screamo, at least to me, is what that wiki refers to as the first-wave of screamo (Pg. 99, Orchid, La Quiete, etc.)....I don't consider that second-wave screamo at all |
So apparently I've discovered that "speedcore" is a style of techno. Hah, this is so retarded. |
Just for the record, I refuse to call HavaGrind a Jewcore band! |
i would say fastcore is bands like Hummingbird of Death. Bands that incorporate the speed and nastiness of pv but with good 80's hardcore/punk influence.
i love it all regardless of what its called...the faster the better. |
one of my favorite bands is orchid. i dont give a fuck what anyone says, they were an amazing band. pg.99, portraits of past, saetia, jeromes dream, usurp synapse, the assistant, etc. all amazing. level plane used to put out good records =/ |
genres are pretty stupid these days.. |
I'm just waiting for Blackcore... |
might as well use this blog to introduce myself to powerviolence. Which bands would people recommend? |
spazz
fuck on the beach
crossed out
the ultimate warriors |

Fastcore basically takes the early 80s sound and takes the speed to the next level, I guess you could say it's almost at a blasting pace but since it has no metal influence whatsoever, it's not grind. It differs from powerviolence just because fastcore is a more straight forward sound while powerviolence has a lot of time/tempo changes, etc.
And subgenres aren't stupid either. If a band is doing something truly different and new, why put it in the same category? Music evolves in all directions and not only are you undermining creative bands by putting them in the same old groups, but not believing in genres is like having no standards, why do you think people call shit like Korn metal? |
I'm just waiting for Blackcore... |
You'll be able to hear Black Slam on Monday August 10th. Seriously. |
Blackcore? I guess if that's what you wanna call Infernal Stronghold feel free...
Does anyone else get the impression that a lot of punks are playing ironic black metal these days or at the very least using ironic black metal logos? |

all this shit had a definitive sound and it is reasonable to give it a specific name. screamo is a lame way to address it, but this genre is totally legit whether or not people use it to describe bullshit music today. the same can be said hardcore and metal (BYD, atreyu).
To me, it's a redundant label, because it just sounds like you're trying to say Grindcore. |
grind evolved from crust punk and therefore has always had strong metal influence. fast hardcore has no inherent metal influence.
i've never really recognized a real stylistic difference between fastcore and powerviolence, i was always under the impression that PV was sort of less than serious microgenre used to describe a handful of fast hardcore bands.
in closing:
I love arguing on the internet and I hope someone here has never heard of crust. |

Definitely. I love the new Tinner shirt design. |

I guess technically you're right, considering that fastcore and powerviolence pretty much go hand in hand anyway and the fans always love both, describing the difference isn't even worth the effort. You know what's funny to me though is that whenever people talk about powerviolence, they'll always say bands like Infest (pre-pv) or Spazz and Charles Bronson (second wave bands) rather than the bands in the song (Crossed Out, No Comment, Manpig, Capitalist Casualties, Man is the Bastard). |
if powerviolence ever had a definitive sound, its crossed out because that's who all the modern 'powerviolence' bands ripoff. the good ones anyway. |
It is kind of a bummer to me that powerviolence has almost become a formula.
"Fast part, slow part, fast part, slow part, mid paced part, three chord riffs, got it"
I disagree with your assessment too since a lot of what I'd call the best modern powerviolence bands are creating their own unique sounds (Iron Lung, Hummingbird of Death, Lack of Interest's new material, older Weekend Nachos, etc.) |
yeah, contemporary fast hardcore bands that identify as powerviolence are usually pretty unspectacular. still, i'm never going to see crossed out so its fun to see scapegoat and pretend. |
yeah but none of those bands identify as poweviolence, i think weekend nachos is actually staunchly against using the term. |
Seriously, perfect replication. |
did you ever see eunuch before you left? they do the same sort of thing and are pretty great. |
Unfortunately I did not.
If I can pass along a couple goodies to you from NC:
Obstruction (broke up back in March but god damnit I LOVED this band):
http://www.myspace.com/obstructionthrash
Wall (Reminds me a lot of Iron Lung but actually has a pretty distinct sound, from Wilmington, the bro capital of North Carolina oddly enough):
