No better description for them. Huge Opeth influence but with a slice of blackmetal at some parts.
I know some of you are Opeth fans, so if you like them and haven't heard this band, check em out. If not, well that's alright too.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 4,2009 10:17pm
conservatist wants a finnished opeth.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 4,2009 10:18pm
imagine getting that as a ring tone? it would be on VM before you heard anything.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 4,2009 10:38pm
at first I didn't hear it, then the vocals came in and I got it.
vocals and the guitar harmonies.

This shit is awesome. Thanks for the link.

toggletoggle post by ArilliusBM  at Sep 4,2009 10:51pm
no problem. just realized they had a new EP out with a different vocalist.. it's downloadable on that myspace link I guess.

what a bunch of ripoffs

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Sep 5,2009 8:27am
Thanks, aril. great find. I had never heard these guys before and i'm really liking it. it has a strong opeth influence but doesn't rip them off. Definitely good enough to stand on its own merits.

I hear a bit of Moonsorrow in this, too.

toggletoggle post by spaldino at Sep 24,2009 3:36am
i cant stop fucking listening to "The Forlorn". for the past like 2 weeks. how did i not hear about this album sooner?! its so fucking good.

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 24,2009 8:09am
Very epic album

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at Sep 24,2009 8:17am
This band is alright. Not on Opeth's level though.

toggletoggle post by spaldino at Dec 1,2009 8:32pm
still can't stop listening to these guys. The Forlorn is pure platinum amazingness. Closure is also fantastic and i would definitely say they are on Opeth's level. it's a completely different feeling, much more melancholy and a smothering sense of hopelessness is coarsing throughout their music.

toggletoggle post by ekiMvO at Dec 1,2009 10:36pm
This band is talented and I like what they do, but saying they're on Opeth's level is giving them far too much credit (IMO). Their music can't really be compared to the first five Opeth albums, as they're two separate bands. Judging by your posts, I can tell you're really into what they do.

toggletoggle post by sinistas   at Dec 2,2009 12:19pm
Still awesome.

checking out nao

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Dec 2,2009 1:22pm
pretty cool

toggletoggle post by aril at Dec 2,2009 1:29pm
What are you checking out, The forlorn?

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Dec 2,2009 1:42pm
That and whatever track was after it.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Dec 2,2009 1:42pm
(I'm definitely more into this than I am into Opeth, for the record.)

probably my favorite tune. its soooooo good... it's weird getting the same kind of atmosphere that a doom metal band has while playing like 10 times faster, but these dudes just nail it.

toggletoggle post by spaldino at Dec 6,2009 1:45pm
this is the newer material, a lot less black metal, as in... no blasting sections. this is where people get the Opeth comparisons from. i think the music is more doomy and is not TOO similar to Opeth. no fast double bass parts... i prefer their album "The Forlorn" over "Closure" but i remain hopeful that their new material goes back into their black metal roots, but i doubt it.

that last one is actually track 4, im stupid. i was looking for opening track while posting that and i typed that in. percs fucked me up, nigga!

this track reminds me a lot of November's Doom.

3 of their songs cant be posted because they are over 10 minutes long. The opening song from The Forlorn "Frailty" is epic as shit. gorgeous melodies and an overwhelming sense of desolation throughout.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Dec 16,2009 11:01am
DLed The Forlorn last night. The Ascent has such a sick intro. I didn't like the first track on the CD so much, though.

Yeah, it's not amazing but it's new music for me during a time where most of what I listen to is The Shins' Oh, Inverted World on repeat.

yeah its so over-rated because they are so popular and you can't stop hearing about them everywhere you go.

The Forlorn is awesome. it's a fantastic album, just listen to it and accept it for what it is instead of going into the listening experience biased against it because people compare the band to Opeth and say good things about it.

Fucking tired of the Opeth hating for no reason. i hate the people that obsess over a band to the point where they would let the entire band and road crew bust in their mouths, but that doesn't detract from a band's overall great musical talent/song writing... whoever the band is.

Yeah, when i get forced to check something out because someone else really likes it and wants to share, i go into the experience with the intent of being disappointed, but i atleast give the shit a fair shot instead of just listening to like 40 seconds, skipping ahead a minute, listening to 20 seconds, skipping ahead another minute, etc, etc... you will NEVER get what the band wanted you to feel from a song if you just listen to bits of it. i can't stand that shit. i have a feeling most people that shit on a band do just that.

i even sat through the entire Poison the Well album that had so many reviews on this site so long ago multiple times because i wanted to be able to say that i didnt like the album with a REAL opinion, not just an assumption based on 1/50th knowledge of the product.

toggletoggle post by spaldino at Dec 18,2009 10:10pm
FUCK. Fall is so good. fuck this band.

toggletoggle post by Spaldino at Mar 2,2010 9:06pm
The Forlorn is one of the best albums i have ever heard. their newest album, Fall of Icons, is pure Opeth worship and also very awesome. The Forlon though, is their masterpiece. its different and anyone that tries to compare it to Opeth is a fucking moron. "Forlorn" is perfect. i can not stop listening to it.

their album "The Forlorn" isn't as Opeth-like as people say... their last two efforts are very Opeth-like while still being very much their own. The Forlorn is a fantastic album that has an atmosphere that i have not seen replicated.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Mar 3,2010 1:34am
would you rank the forlorn in "spaldinos top 5 metal albums of all time" list?

toggletoggle post by Spaldino at Mar 3,2010 2:07am
yes, definitely. i listen to atleast a couple songs from the album once a day.

At the 6:48 mark, hell yes.

Sounds like someone stumbled into Blackwater Park, LuLz.

More Opeth worship, but too bad the clean vocals are weak.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Mar 10,2010 1:43pm
Good or no?

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Mar 10,2010 1:46pm
In Mourning is musically good and the death vocals are solid, but the cleans leave a lot to be desired. Still worthy of your time, if you're into this style.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Mar 10,2010 1:47pm
They have the same vocals as the ep? They changed the vocalist on the 1st album an ep.

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Mar 10,2010 1:49pm
Are you talking about Ikuinen? Yeah, their clean vocals aren't too bad, no Akerfeldt but far better than In Mourning's.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Mar 10,2010 2:10pm
Yes. They had a vocalist on the forlorn which was decent. I didn't like the one they had on the ep. The new album must have that guy.

the last 2 minutes of "Grace" off of "The Forlorn" is PERFECT.

toggletoggle post by Spaldino at Mar 13,2010 8:44pm
BTW... the newest In Mourning album is pretty awesome and i didnt really get an "Opeth nut hugger" vibe from it at all.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Oct 21,2010 1:05pm
Heard the new one?
Haven't yet, but the forlorn still plays every now and then. especially that sing "fall"

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Oct 21,2010 3:17pm
for some reason now i can view embedded youtube videos so i was finally able to hear this, pretty good stuff. my biggest issue is that the parts aren't interesting enough to be drawn out as long as they are. the melodies are killer, but it doesn't grab me the way i had hoped. i won't dismiss it though, i'd like to hear the full albums in the right environment. i remember not liking Opeth all that much when i first heard them in like 99, but now they are one of my favorite bands. i think it's the song "Closure" that sounds like Sauron of Decapitated is singing.

toggletoggle post by Spaldino at Oct 21,2010 3:39pm
the album that "closure" is off of is more Opeth-like than the album before it, "the forlorn". "The Forlorn" is a lot more black metal and doesn't have clean vocals and STILL gets heavy play time from me. the atmosphere on it is incredible.

the new one is good, but it's a really particular mood kind of good. like... you need to be in the right mindset and be able to take it all in and just chill. The Forlorn is still way better, but it's worth a couple listens at the very least.
