i don't expect much in terms of change with Nile, but i hope they didn't just make Annihilation of the Wicked part 3, like Ithyphallic. MORE AMONGST THE CATACOMBS OF NEPHREN-KA. |
this is ok, it's typical nile, sounds more raw and has a lot more straight simple death metal riffs which is fine. i'd like to hear more of Karl's insane deep gutturals but the vocals are still pretty good, drumming is awesome as expected. songwriting is meh. gotta listen more.
they can't beat annihilation of the wicked imo. |
Going to be listen to this at work today. Looking forward to it. |
that's all i expect from Nile, a good solid release. i don't really expect much in the way of stellar song writing, i don't really know how many more times Karl Sanders can write songs like that, but i have faith. even Ithyphallic had meh song writing, but i still enjoy it. |
That opening track "What can safely be written", off the last album was absolutely killer. |
WE PRETEND TO BE EGPYTIANS BUT WE ARE FAT, MIDDLE AGED OVERWEIGHT MEN AND SHOULD HAVE HUNG IT UP AFTER BLACK SEEDS |

yeah, that's what i'm talking about, there's no songs on this that really stand out like that. this album almost feels empty in comparison. |
Eat of the Dead and Even the Gods Must Die are killer tracks too. |

Black Seeds of Vengeance is by far my least favorite thing they did, i hardly listen to it. In Their Darkened Shrines raped that album. |
love the drum work on this album-very in it's own world but still focused and groovy. |
in their darkened shrines and catacombs are classics |

this is not typical nile, not in my opinion. the production is pretty decipherable
and the vocals are way clearer than before. give it another listen |
I thought this album fucking slays. |
i need to get this. sounds like its a big step up from Ithyphallic. |

this album really does kill. i find myself passing up on annihiliation of the wicked (well... the title track i dont skip, that song is just magic) whenever that album comes up on my player to listen to the new one. its god blistering speed, it has a pretty sick atmosphere, and it CRUSHES a lot. this album really sounds like the soundtrack that the jewish slaves created with their feet and their cries of agony and the sounds of giant slabs of rock being dragged and put into place. its grindy, its heavy, its probably my favorite Nile album now. anyone that dogs on it just needs to listen to it again. |
ok so this album is devastating. what a fresh change, everything is so much more concise and stripped down. it sounds like Karl Sanders aimed at making just a killer Nile album as opposed to the next craziest thing he could think up, or Annihilation of the Wicked pt. 3. it has so many elements reminiscent of In Their Darkened Shrines, which is excellent. the end of "4th Arra of Dagon" is fucking devastating. i am so thankful that it kicks ass, i have always loved these guys. |
its replay value is proving to be pretty good so far |

i listened through the album the other day while doing homework, and i had to stop when this part came on. so good. |
Its definitely one of my favorite Nile albums. |

Yeah, that track is pretty sick. Notice how the songs containing Lovecraftian themes seem to stand out more? I'm sensing a pattern here.
(Unless they're referring to Dagon the semitic god) |
At times, it also reminds me of Morbid Angel. |
I like this album a heck of a lot. Right up there with Decrepit Birth and Portal in my death metal albums of the year. I'll admit I'm a bit out of the loop on killer death metal that came out this year.
... suggestions, please... |
i can't believe how good this is. i put on Annihilation and found myself wanting to listen to this instead. it sounds like the Nile of old. the liner notes are awesome too, they sound a tab bit pretentious at times, but there is some funny stuff. its awesome knowing that "Utterances of the Crawling Dead" was inspired by Nazi Zombies, and "4th Arra of Dagon" was inspired by Ghostbusters. |
