Abacus Recordings Signs The Abandoned Hearts Club!

Birthed out of a need to challenge the masses intellectually, confront the underground musically and abuse grave amounts of illicit substances physically, in three short years, Toronto, Ontario's The Abandoned Hearts Club have evolved beyond the initial growing pains every young band faces to become one of Canada's pre-eminent sonic terrorists.

Formed in 2001 - a bad time for symbolic capitalist structures but a good time for creation from chaos - out of the ashes of Spread the Disease and Countdown to Oblivion, The Abandoned Hearts Club wasted no time in defining their identity, beliefs and DIY ethos. Towards the end of 2001, The Abandoned Hearts Club self-recorded, financed and released the four-song The Initial Confessions Of... CD/EP. A brutally unrelenting combination of slashing metallic hardcore damage, thrashing synthesizer screams and squeals, irrevocably trachea-damaged vocals and recklessly off-kilter compositions, with lyrics combining the social-political, poetic and amorphous, The Initial Confessions Of... received critical acclaim from the underground and quickly sold out its initial pressing.

On the strength of their live show - a captivating display of careening musical histrionics, flailing limbs and instruments, and perpetual motion, with more synthesizers than any band should logically require - and the success of their EP, their music and message soon spread. North American tours with fellow like-minded musical antagonists The End and Today is The Day followed, redefining the words "heavy" and "debauchery" in their wake. These tours, and countless shows in their snow-encrusted homeland, have not only established the band as rising stars but also marked them as a live entity that can hold their own with the best the metallic underground has to offer.

As their stock rose, so did label interest and towards the end of 2003, The Abandoned Hearts Club appeared on Robotic Empire's Mutations compilation, alongside other promising aggressive acts like Ed Gein and The Minor Times. Offering "Experimenting with Maturity," the Abandoned Hearts Club expanded upon their established sound while cementing their love for drugs, crime and the back catalogues of Man's Ruin and Amphetamine Reptile Records. Currently in the works are appearances on the mighty Hydra Head's HHR vs. HHNI compilation, Genet Record's Chokehold tribute and Communion Record's label launch compilation. The Initial Confessions of… will also be re-released in the not too distant future on Init Records, with art by Jeremy Wabiszczewicz of Daughters fame.

Of course, with growth comes pain. As initial members succumbed to the rigors of self-abuse for the sake of musical creation, new Hearts were abandoned and subsequently recruited from the likes of Ontario emo heavyweights Moneen and the criminally overlooked Katja. These additions cemented a line-up that is now at its most experimental, creative and vicious.

Shocking everyone, including themselves, in March 2004 the Abandoned Hearts Club signed a deal with the new hardcore imprint Abacus Recordings. Currently at work on their Abacus debut, tentatively entitled Aloha Cocksuckers, which is destined to be one of 2005's most controversial releases, The Abandoned Hearts Club will continue to use its music as a medium to provoke critical thought, despite their recent "selling out."

If the greatest art is made by criminals, madmen and individuals stricken with contradictory natures, then greatness isn't something to aspire to for The Abandoned Hearts Club, it is to be expected.

The Abandoned Hearts Club are:
Frankie Fuckface (Man tits and ass hair- Vocals), Hugo Cognac (Band practice no show- Bass), Sheldon Staggers (Wasn't me! (in Shaggy voice)- Drums), Billy Bloodsurf (Rogaine and nic stains- Guitar), Sunny Suicide (Fake tan and waxed ass- Guitar), Pee Wee Vermin (Porno and hashish- Electronics)

i heard these guys and they weren't bad, but i refuse to support them because they have a gay name and the members dress like fashionable fruits.

and yeah, if anyone wants to say i should judge people on what they wear. i don't until bands start using image to get them somewhere. i'm sick of the fact that bands have to look cool to get popular by the majority of kids who listen to it. I refuse to support bands that do that to themselves.

one of the gay bands on that gay label released a CD called "The Ocean" and the cover looks so much like the cover from Disengaged's 'The Ocean' (which came out nearly a year before), it's very uncanny and I am currently trying to see if there is a legal way to force them to pull that CD from the shelves because I don't want people confusing the CD with some crappy emo-core band
