I'm about 4 months late on this one... didn't see a thread. I'm assuming because In Flames has SUCKED for years.. but they released quality material earlier on. Jesper is the only one in the band that I had still somewhat respected, only because I admired him as a composer ever since I heard Subterranean and The Jester Race. I still hold The Jester Race as a 100% Classic Metal album that will never get old.'

Oh well.. good to see he may quite possibly move on to better things because in flames has SUCKED bad for over 10 years and counting.

I leave you with one of the most underrated In Flames songs:

The December Flower solo is fucking awesome.

It is. Too bad it wasn't done by a real member

He/In Flames still exists, he's just been calling it Dimension Zero for the last 15 years...

bennyhillifier

That's what Jesper was doing when not playing with In Flames or playing world of warcraft.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jun 30,2010 7:35am
Was never big into DZ, although the first album isn't too bad.

penetrations from a lost world is incredible, silent night fever is still good... but has no solos.

My In Flames Rankings:

1.Jester Race
2.Whoracle
3.Lunar/Sub
4.Colony

haha agreed, I did not like anything after colony. colony was ok but was the beginning of the end. didn't even know what they sound like now nor do I care

toggletoggle post by DreadKill  at Jun 30,2010 9:37am
he quit the band because he's an alcoholic who can't quit booze if he lives the touring lifestyle.

old in flames is great, up to whoracle. some of colony is really good, but as a whole, not great. clayman had some decent tunes. after that, they turned to complete shit.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jun 30,2010 9:43am
I hope jesper goes back to his folk roots whatever he may be.

toggletoggle post by boxxy at Jun 30,2010 10:12am
i don't like clayman at all. Matter of fact, i was at the newbury comics in Braintree the day it came out to buy it. I was very excited. I hoped that colony was a one time mistake, and that they'd go back to their old style with clayman... I ended up throwing the cd out the window.

toggletoggle post by DreadKill  at Jun 30,2010 10:21am
i was at newbury comics once and heard a story about some guy buying master of puppets when it first came out, hating it because he didn't think it lived up to the first two metallica albums, and throwing it out the window.

toggletoggle post by DreadKill  at Jun 30,2010 10:22am
i never paid for clayman. i got a free promo cd before it came out. i think i still have it somewhere.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jun 30,2010 10:32am edited Jun 30,2010 10:49am
I did not like clayman one bit. I think the last album I heard was reroute to remain and puked when I heard it.
Last time i saw them was end of 2002 I believe, that tour with dark tranquillity and kse. DT stole that show by far, and in flames were wearing white jumpsuits. ugh, shouldn't have bothered going.

toggletoggle post by boxxy at Jun 30,2010 10:32am
before the internet, i used to throw a LOT of cds out the window. I'm sure most of you will understand. (unless you're under 20) When I used to go to the local newb's or (god forbid) strawberries.. I would pick a cd based on word of mouth, reviews in zines, band names, cover, etc.. and i'd say MORE than 50% of the time got something that i didn't like. Something that wasn't the type of music i was looking for, or just plain ol sucked. and POOF, all the sudden it was out the window.

I <3 the internet

toggletoggle post by littering police at Jun 30,2010 10:37am

You believe that? The man has a world of warcraft guitar, and quit due to 'addiction problems'. Alcohol, suuuuuuuuuure.

I didn't think In Flames had the white jumpsuits at that point. I don't regret going to that show in the slightest. Sentenced and DT were awesome, I could deal with KSE at that point (I was 16. Cut a guy some slack), and In Flames played at least SOME of their good stuff (And still hadn't added that ultrashit brodown chug section to Episode 666, if memory serves correct)

You may have been responsible for half my CD collection in my youth. You have no idea how many CDs I found on the side of the road in still-kinda-playable condition. Granted, most of the time they were complete garbage...but I DID score Diary of a Madman that way. And a couple of Primus CDs (That I sadly no longer have)

almost forgot sentenced played. as expected, no north from here stuff but they were good live.

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Jul 1,2010 8:12am
Sentenced ruled on that tour. I didn't expect any NFH songs, considering their tour was in support of The Cold White Light. That album rules and I'm really glad I got to see them once before they broke up. Miika R.I.P.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 1,2010 8:29am edited Jul 1,2010 8:31am
wasn't really expecting NFH considering Ville wasn't in the band. I couldn't rememeber if it was that show that Sentenced played but it was. I went to the one in providence and liked DT and Sentenced; if I'm not mistaken that was also the reroute to remain tour for in flames, hence the jump suits. I was completely dissatisfied with in flames at that show and proceeded not listening to any of their stuff for quite sometime out of pure disgustment. I thought the Clayman tour was lame too. The classics will be classics, but that was a band that went down the shitter in no time. hard to believe that was nearly 8 years go though.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Jul 1,2010 8:30am
I got to see In Flames RIGHT after Colony came out at the Paladium upstairs, they played with "moonspell" and "shadows fall". This was right after shadows fall got Brain as there singer. (bad move) hence they started sucking. I used to love "somber eyes to the sky", that record was awesome. Actually i really liked their ep "dead world"... even though it DID have Brian F. on it.

In Flames was good at that show. They did stuff from all their records, and they did it well.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 1,2010 8:33am
From what I remember hat was the best IF show I ever saw too. They drastically changed their set list in the period of a few years.

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Jul 1,2010 8:34am
The closest that tour came to us was Providence, I believe. That's where I caught the show.

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Jul 1,2010 8:35am
When In Flames came out in the milk men suits, I refused to watch them.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 1,2010 8:41am
I remember hearing the reasoning behind the gimmick was because they had just got done touring with slipknot in Europe and wanted to have a gimmick to appeal to more fans in the US.
Anyways, FUCK Anders. His old work was good (although I believe they slowed down his vocals on whorcacle to make them sound better) but was the catalyst of their destruction. Swedish Jon Davis FTL.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Jul 1,2010 8:45am
I really liked the vocs on whoracle and on Jester Race. (I also really like lunar strain/sub vocs) As soon as colony came out i knew they were on their way down. All the "hetfield esque" vocs were dissapointing.

Mike - where were you living that that show i was talking about was closest to you in providence?

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Jul 1,2010 8:48am
In Boston.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Jul 1,2010 8:50am

toggletoggle post by MikeofdecrepitudE at Jul 1,2010 8:53am
That show didn't come to Worcester, which is why I went down to Providence.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jul 1,2010 8:58am
Yea, I think that particular tour went to PVD. I was living down in dartmouth so pvd was only 20 minutes away.

In Flames, as I choose to remember them.

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Jul 1,2010 9:12am
which tour are you talking about? Not the Shadows fall/moonspell one right? I must be confused, i thought you were talking about that one that i was talking about. (which i saw in worcester.)

you must be talking about the sentenced show, right? my bad.

In Flames at the Palladium upstairs was their first ever appearance in Ma. That was also Killswitch Engages first show ever (quite the gig to land). In Flames totally killed it.

that show was great. ville from sentenced hugged me when i told him i enjoyed their set. he also said they were coming back in the spring but they never did. one of my favorite bands ever. RIP miika

as much as i loved old in flames, they always sucked live.

i think you're mistaken. The first In Flames MA gig was the one at the palladium upstairs with moonspell, but it was shadows fall and not killswitch. I am fairly certain of this.

Yea. He was trashed. I think he said that he was on stage too.
That was a night of awesome performances by these 2 vocalists because I'm pretty sure Mikael Stanne was trashed a well.

Stanne was obliterated. I hung out with him after the show and he was the nicest guy. He kept asking women to hook up with me. It reminds me of why I loved the Scandinavian scene.

That's exactly where I was. I walked up to give him a simple handshake and he gave me a bear hug. He was so psyched that people on this side of the pond came out in support. He asked me what my favorite DT material was and I told him Skydancer and The Gallery and he drunkenly hugged me again. I lol'd.

that's exactly what ville did. when i told him sentenced was one of my favorite bands, he seemed so overjoyed that people in america knew who they were. he gave me a huge hug and then said "i was not going to kiss you." and i said "cool story, bro. i'm not gay"
